Hedgehogs were sometimes kept in Victorian kitchens to eat insects, as there was a constant war against bugs.

In modern times, they still eat bugs such as mealworms, waxworms, and crickets but these should never be wild caught to help prevent the spread of parasites, toxins, & bacteria.
