First and foremost, we are animal lovers and protectors. We began our mission in Oct. 2012 as a non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to saving the lives and advocating for the homeless animals in the care of the Prince William County Animal Shelter and have recently expanded our mission to help other animal rescue organizations in the area. We do that by hosting fundraising events to supp

ort our various programs. The Prince William Humane Society Adopt Shop was forced to close due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. All our pets were adopted prior to closing and we do not have any pets, nor are we accepting owner surrenders or donations of supplies. Food donations are accepted for our Fur-ever Together community outreach program by appointment only by emailing [email protected]. Unfortunately, we also do not currently have any volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering, you may want to check with the PW Cty Animal Shelter at 703-792-6465 or Fredericksburg SPCA at 540-898-1500. If you are looking to adopt a pet, we suggest you check out https://www.petfinder.com/ and put in your location and the type of pet you are looking for. Most rescue and shelters list their adoptable pets on that site so you will see what is available in the area. You can then schedule an appointment to meet them. If you need assistance finding a lost pet, please contact the Prince William County Animal Shelter and go there to see if they have your pet. You can also post your missing pet at Lost and Found Pets of P. W. Cty https://www.facebook.com/LostFoundPetsPWC/

If you need assistance with any other animal-related issue, please call the PW Cty Animal Shelter at 703-792-6465. The Prince William Humane Society continues as an Animal Welfare organization with a new mission of saving the maximum number of lives and reducing euthanasia through our new Homeless Animals Support Network by working collectively with small rescues & shelters statewide to get more pets adopted. We will do this by amplifying their messages, featuring their adoptable pets and providing financial assistance for pets in need. Please follow us on Facebook/pwhumane.org or on our webpage at PWHumane.org to keep up to date on our endeavors and programs. Thank you for being a friend to animals. It has been our pleasure and passion to serve our community these past years and help over 2000 homeless pets find their forever homes.

We hope that Adina finds the very, very best home after surviving Parvo. What a brave girl! 🐢

We are excited to share that the first parvo puppy of the year, 3 month old Adina, made it successfully through treatment and will hopefully be headed back to foster care later today!

We also want to use this timely opportunity to announce that we are the grateful recipients of a $5000 grant from the Homeless Animals Support Network Fund of the The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region! This grant is focused on providing funding for our Parvo Program, and will assist us in supporting the dogs and puppies that rely on us for lifesaving treatment this year. Thank you so much!

CALL TO ACTION: Protect community cats by asking Virginia legislators to vote NO on HB 221.

House Bill 221 leaves decision-making about animal welfare to state bureaucrats, which takes away local authority and sets a dangerous precedent.

Click the link to enter your information into a fillable form that will automatically let your representative know that your DO NOT support this dangerous bill!

We wanted to share a great Success Story with you & show you your donation dollars at work. Wise Cty Humane Society is one of our partners & faces excessive overcrowding & homelessness for the pets in their area daily. With grant funds from
HASN they are able to Vet, vaccinate, treat & groom these animals for transfer to the Northeast through their amazing partnership with Pilots to the Rescue. 30 cats were transported on Dec. 20th & they are in the process of preparing more cats for a second transport as soon as weather permits.
We are so excited to see the wonderful work being accomplished by this great group of people & are so pleased to be part of their efforts.

"Sweet Luna showed up at a local good Samaritan's home one day and decided she wanted to stay. The nice person took Luna to the vet for basic health care, but the price of the spay was more than she could afford at the time. She reached out to the Twin County Humane Society for assistance, and, thanks to the funds we received from the Prince William Humane Society's Homeless Animals Support Network for our cat spay/neuter certificate program, we were able to provide Luna's new owner with enough financial assistance so that she could have Luna spayed. Luna is now happily settled in her new home and living her best life!"

Our Story

Mission Statement: The Prince William Humane Society is devoted to promoting animal welfare, increasing homeless pet adoptions, and enhancing the quality of life for people and their pets.

First and foremost, we are animal lovers and protectors. We began our mission in Oct. 2012 as a non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to saving the lives and advocating for the homeless animals in the care of the Prince William County Animal Shelter. We do that by hosting fund raising events to support our various adoption programs; Seniors 4 Seniors, Warrior Buddies Family Adoptions and several individual adoption events as requested by the Shelter. We also save the lives of wounded or critically ill pets through our Poor Animals Welfare and Surgical (PAWS) Fund. We recently took one huge step forward to realizing our ultimate goal of creating a "No Kill" safe sanctuary for homeless pets when we became a Community Partner Organization to the P.W. Cty. Animal Shelter and opened our own Off-Site Adoption Center located on Rte. 1 in Dumfries, VA, just north of the Quantico Marine Base. P.W.H.S. transfers homeless pets from various area shelters to our Adopt Shop providing them a "No Kill" safe sanctuary, caring for their physical and emotional needs, giving them warm beds, nutritious meals, and the veterinary care necessary to ensure every animal is healthy, spayed, and fully vaccinated. Our caring and compassionate staff and volunteers provide one on one attention and socialization until we find them loving, lifetime homes. We promote spaying and neutering of all pets in an effort to reduce the unwanted birth rate and eliminate euthanasia. We strive to educate the public on animal welfare issues and promote humane actions and attitudes towards all living things. We are a mostly volunteer organization made up of dedicated animal advocates and talented people who come together to combine our talents, skills and passion to accomplish magnificent transformations for the pets and pet lovers of Prince William County. We welcome all who are interested in aiding in this mission and are grateful for the time they donate to helping animals.
