We are currently in our yellowjacket era! Be aware that yellowjackets are active on the trails. Yellow jackets and other stinging insects have a knack for ruining your outdoor fun. It is suggested to wear long-sleeves, pants, closed-toe shoes, and head protection to reduce the chance of getting stung. Walk at your own risk!

Facts About Yellowjackets:
1. Yellowjackets live in colonies made up of workers and a queen. Queens stay in the nest and lay eggs while the workers’ job is to build the nest, protect the queen and the eggs/young, and find food for the colony members. Yellowjacket colonies can grow over time up to about the size of a basketball and can house 4,000 to 5,000 occupants. Nests are usually occupied for one season, after which the yellowjacket workers die off.
2. Unlike bees, yellowjacket stingers don’t detach when they sting you. They can sting you multiple times! If you get stung enough (or if you’re allergic to yellowjacket venom), you might need to seek medical attention.
3. Try not to squash a yellowjacket. When squashed, they release a pheromone that attracts others from their colony, and incites them to attack you if you’re nearby.
4. You should never swat at a yellowjacket, as this will only incite it to attack you. If you encounter one (or any other stinging insect), slowly back away from it and try not to make sudden motions.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱! KOTC needs a site to hold an AKC Scent Work trial in the Kanawha/Putnam County area. Scent Work involves hiding certain scents and having the dogs search for them.

KOTC loves to support our dog-loving community. We asked the Putnam Animal Shelter for their priority wish list, and we went to work. Today we delivered a large animal scale, a stethoscope, various medical supplies and a collection of toys and treats. Walkie-talkies are in route too.

Did you know that you can order from their Amazon wish list and have things shipped directly to the shelter. Check it out. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/GKBJRFOJ6A1G?ref_=wl_share

Ok, folks. I know that some of you have received strange messages allegedly from me asking for help, gift cards, etc. I have been hacked somehow, and those messages are a pile of dog p**p,
as is/are the hacker(s). As you can imagine from that tone, I am incensed. The messages are fake; I am fine and do not need your money, gift cards, etc. well wishes are great and kindly accepted, as I am recovering from a total hip replacement surgery on my right side…. Too bad I didn’t start out with the left, then I might have been able to drive sooner!

I have good help, am making progress thru PT, and hope to get by with a cane by next week. We’ll see………

Miss seeing you and being in classes, but hope to be back asap! Keep working those dogs!!!!!

Beth

Now's the time.

We need all animals out asap of the shelter. ‼️‼️
As the floor renovations are wrapping up the fumes are getting a bit too strong for the animals. It is crucial the animals do not breathe these fumes in for prolonged periods. 😞 Please consider adopting/ fostering at this time we need it more than ever.

The Poofball also known as Elle got a major today!!! Happy dance. Thank you Liz Powell for your handling and grooming.
