Monroe SPCA envisions a humane no kill community where people treat each other and animals wth kindness, respect, and empathy.

Monroe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Monroe SPCA) is a 501c.3 tax-exempt, not-for-profit animal welfare and protection organization incorporated in the State of Michigan in 2010. Monroe SPCA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We also proudly host a membership society open to anyone interested in animal welfare. Monroe SPCA’s mission is to save, protect, and improve

the lives of animals. In fulfilling our mission we intend to be a leader in promoting humane values, preventing cruelty to animals, ending animal homelessness, and providing protection to and responsible placement of animals in-need.

$5 FRIDAY
Another $5 Friday is here. We’re reeling from the loss of Russet, but the world simply doesn’t stop moving forward. We still have his bills to pay, both at Flat Rock Animal Clinic for his diagnostics and Temperance Animal Hospital for his emergency surgery. Russet's Final Update
This sweet soul is no longer with us. After a surgery in which a feeding tube was successful installed, his body temp was critically low. In recovery his body gave out and he was gone. We're devastated by his loss and don't have all the answers as to the how and why. But we're grateful for the time we had with him - he loved to hug and nibble on hair and necks; we'd call him our vampire kitty. Rest in peace Russet. 🐾

Update on Russet
Russet is living in an emergency medical foster over the weekend, but he’s still struggling to eat on his own; and now is developing fatty liver disease. His bloodwork however doesn't indicate that we should give up. Today we were able to get an emergency appointment at Temperance Animal Hospital to surgically install a feeding tube. This isn’t our first feline who’s needed one, and while it’s the start of a long road to recovery, he has hope if we can keep food/nutrients in him. This guy still shows that he wants to fight; his purr motor is still revving up when he gets pets. So please, show him that you want him to keep fighting too – send all good thoughts his way and donate towards his vet bill below, which is the estimate for installing his feeding tube. 🐾

Update on Russet
Russet is in serious condition. A bit of background, for those who don’t remember his story, he was an emergency intake of ours last year. At the time his condition was terrible: he was emaciated, dehydrated, and most of his tail was chemically degloved/melted off. We were able to get him nursed back to health for surgery, but because of the missing skin being so close to his a**s, the vet thought it best to wait for some healing. So he was neutered and had been living happily since until a few days ago when he started to not act like himself. So now we’re waiting for the results of a full bloodwork panel and in the meantime he’s on antibiotics and an appetite stimulant to help get him eating again, along with a regimen of daily care, including sub-Q fluids and AD cat food to support him. All of this is to get him to full strength for surgery to remove what’s left of his tail – the vet suspects the change in behavior is that the tail finally needs to go and its snowballed other issues. Please donate toward’s his vet bill from yesterday, $5, $10, anything helps! His surgery for tail amputation will be upcoming and we need to get this paid! Please keep him in your thoughts and thank you for sending love his way!

Angus Update: Angus is confirmed to have some very serious allergies: he was given a steroid injection and an antibiotic to give him relief and it's recommended we change his food to LID - no chicken. Today we're transporting two of our shelter felines to the vet: Angus and Russet. Angus has been dealing with a case of severe allergies since intake and reportedly, before his intake with us well. He's made some improvements, only for him to go back to losing hair, overgroom himself, and develop bumps on his skin. Russet has not been acting like his normal active self and is very lethargic, showing little interest in what used to make him a very happy kitty. We anticipate bloodwork as a minimum for both cats, which will be around $250 even with our rescue discount. Please donate toward their medical care via Paypal or Venmo below! 🐈 Did you know that although black is genetically dominant as a fur color, the striped tabby pattern is genetically dominant as a fur pattern, and in cats with genes for both black fur and tabby patterning, the stripes can be "hidden" under the black coloring?

We're devastated to post this... Bagel is no longer with us. His passing was very sudden and shocked us all, especially his foster family, who showered him with love over the past few months. We never know how long we have with these precious souls, though we do everything possible to provide the best care possible; sometimes, they're not able to be with us as long as we want them to. Please send love and thoughts to his foster family; this sweet boy's passing has left a void in their hearts. 🐾
