Help get Betty adopted 🥹

Meet Betty!!

This little gal was found by one of our own in a parking lot bush. When she came in she was in need of a good bath and some new energy. Dr. Culpepper looked her over and found she needed to be treated for Coccidiosis as well as Hookworms. Now that she is all healed up, she is ready for a new home!!

Sassy Betty LOVES to be active. If you looked up rambunctious kitten, she would be the first picture to come up. This little lady is very independent and is able to entertain herself all day with toys, shoes, couches, blankets, you name it. Windowsills are by far her preferred napping spot. At this moment she has absolutely no interest in the outside world, but who can blame her.

Other companions are hit and miss. The ladies here have taken turns taking her home to socialize. At first, she is very apprehensive. However, as time goes on, she slowly comes around. Sometimes even picking on others just to get them roweled up then runs away. haha As long as your dog has zero prey drive, she will grow to get along with anyone.

Let's talk about bloodwork!

Did you know there are over 300 different panels of bloodwork we offer testing for? We offer them on all types of animals. From dogs to lizards and everything in-between. Bloodwork tells us SO MUCH. It can help to pinpoint what might be going on from different diseases to organs needing some assistance and more. Below are some common questions we receive when making an appointment for this service.

Do I need to fast?
While not all panels require fasting…some MUST be done with no food in the system. If you are unsure give us a call! Our team would be more than happy to help you out. If you forget and the office is closed, always error on the side of caution and withhold meal time. But, remember we LOVE to stay hydrated, so, keep the water flowing!

Should I get bloodwork when my dog is completely healthy?
ABOSLUETLY! Just like humans, each pet’s system is their own. Having routine bloodwork helps us have a base line to go off of before something becomes serious.

Why do I need to get bloodwork done again when I just had it done?
Why yes, your pet may be feeling better, it is not uncommon for that to be temporary. Sometimes sickness will take a backseat for a moment til the meds leave, Then come back full swing or worse. With rechecked bloodwork, it is hard for a problem to hide. This will tell us if the issue has been resolved or if we need to continue treatment. Bloodwork will also tell us if a different more in-depth panel is needed or not.

Why didn’t you run the big panel first?
Besides being wallet friendly, the basic panels give us a general insight of where to look next when something is off. Being that so many panels exist, it is a very important brick to the foundation so to say.

My dog is a senior now, do they need bloodwork more often?
That they do! Unless otherwise told by Dr. Culpepper, we recommend seniors have their blood checked every 6 months. As we all know, their bodies are MUCH more sensitive and progress much faster. Therefore, we must keep up with any changes at the same pace.
