While the air temperature might feel manageable, surfaces like asphalt, concrete, and even grass can become scorching and cause painful burns to your pet’s paws in seconds.

How Hot Do Surfaces Get in Florida’s Summer?
Here’s what you can expect on a typical sunny day:

85°F - 90°F air temperature:
- Asphalt: 130°F - 140°F
- Concrete: 115°F - 125°F
- Grass/Dirt: 95°F - 110°F

90°F - 95°F air temperature:
- Asphalt: 140°F - 150°F,
- Concrete: 125°F - 135°F,
- Grass/Dirt: 100°F - 110°F

95°F - 100°F air temperature:
- Asphalt: 150°F - 160°F
- Concrete: 130°F - 140°F
- Grass/Dirt: 105°F - 115°F

100°F - 105°F air temperature:
- Asphalt: 160°F - 170°F

How Fast Can Hot Surfaces Burn Paws?
Your pet’s paws are vulnerable at surprisingly low temperatures:
- 120°F: Burns in 15 minutes
- 130°F: Burns in 3 minutes
- 140°F: Burns in less than a minute
- 150°F and above: Burns in just seconds

Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe:
- Walk pets early in the morning or late in the evening when surfaces are cooler.
- Always check the ground with the back of your hand; if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet.
- Stick to grassy or shaded areas when possible.
- Consider protective booties for pets if walking on hot surfaces is unavoidable.
