The Lakeshore Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to helping protect the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. The organization was established in 1980 under the name of The Dunkirk Humane Society, later renamed as we expanded our area of service to include the entire north end of Chautauqua County. We strive to get funding throug

h donations and grants to support our spay/neuter assistance program and to help us pay for operating costs, primarily veterinary bills. As always, we are very thankful to our generous sponsors who enable us to continue our work in the community. All money raised or donated stays in our community and helps animals in need. Animals in the care of The Lakeshore Humane Society are housed at our adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. Space restricts the number of animals in our care at any given time it does enables us to get to know each animal better, leading to more successful pairings with new owners. All animals leaving our care must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption and owners are required to sign an adoption contract detailing our standards of care for their new pet. Animals that are deemed too young to be altered are provided with a voucher that covers the cost of surgery. A reasonable donation is required at the time of adoption. Anyone interested in bettering the welfare of animals is welcome to join our organization. There are many ways you can help the animals and us. We meet the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in our adoption center located at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY. Our phone number is: 716-672-1991. Our mail address is 431 E. We are going to have many adoption days throughout the year when we will be open on different Saturdays for people to come , look, meet and adopt their four-legged family member. Also, we will be holding fundraisers at the center so that you may visit the animals and adopt then, too.

This sweet lil' darlin' is Coco. Coco is a newcomer to LHS. She about 4 years old and she loves people and is very affectionate and loves to be held and sit in your lap. She'd love to meet you! These two great guys are Plex (Orange and white) and Fitz (tabby). Fitz is around a year old and Plex is a little over three years old. They are great pals and have lived together here for a while and just have a blast playing together. Once they get to know you and get comfortable they will both sit in your lap... often at the same time. 🤣 They can be adopted separately or there is a discount if two cats are adopted together. No small children recommended as Fitz can get a little mouthy at times. Both are popular cats at the shelter and loved very much! Walter LOVES playing fetch! He is a mixed breed who is a little over a year old. Walter is wondering why he is still here as he's a great fun, loving dog, he loves people, gets along great with other dogs and would be just ideal for any family! A fenced yard would be a plus as he is very active and loves to run and play. He's doing better on leash walking but still would need a little work learning basic commands. This adorable girl is named Sophie. She is approximately 2yrs old and at 37lbs, is a perfect medium size. Sophie is a sweet,friendly mix breed pup. She loves playing fetch and running around the yard. Sophie does know some basic commands but will need a bit of work with leash walking. She is smart and should catch on quick. Sophie seems to like the other dogs here at LHS. Because she’s new,she hasn’t had a chance to mingle with the other dogs yet. Sophie is an energetic girl who would do well with an active family. She would be a great companion for walking, hiking, camping etc. Sophie would make a perfect addition to any home looking for a young, fun loving dog. . Adopted!!

Meet Spud (L) and Mabelline (R). Beautiful five month old Siamese sisters rescued as newborns in Dunkirk. Maybelline is a little more chill and relaxed, while Spud is very friendly, but a little bit more energetic and playful. They are sisters, but are not as closely bonded as first thought, and may be adopted separately! Both are very sociable and freely interacting and playing with the other kittens in their kennel more than they do with each other. Both are spayed, dewormed and have all their shots and are ready to go home. pending an approved application.
