716-672-1991 Many aspects of our organization have changed over the years, but our goal has stayed the same.

The Lakeshore Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to helping protect the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. The organization was established in 1980 under the name of The Dunkirk Humane Society, later renamed as we expanded our area of service to include the entire north end of Chautauqua County. We strive to get funding throug

h donations and grants to support our spay/neuter assistance program and to help us pay for operating costs, primarily veterinary bills. As always, we are very thankful to our generous sponsors who enable us to continue our work in the community. All money raised or donated stays in our community and helps animals in need. Animals in the care of The Lakeshore Humane Society are housed at our adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. Space restricts the number of animals in our care at any given time it does enables us to get to know each animal better, leading to more successful pairings with new owners. All animals leaving our care must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption and owners are required to sign an adoption contract detailing our standards of care for their new pet. Animals that are deemed too young to be altered are provided with a voucher that covers the cost of surgery. A reasonable donation is required at the time of adoption. Anyone interested in bettering the welfare of animals is welcome to join our organization. There are many ways you can help the animals and us. We meet the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in our adoption center located at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY. Our phone number is: 716-672-1991. Our mail address is 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048 or you can contact us though this site. We hope to see you soon! The Adoption Center hours are by adoption appointment only. We are going to have many adoption days throughout the year when we will be open on different Saturdays for people to come , look, meet and adopt their four-legged family member. Also, we will be holding fundraisers at the center so that you may visit the animals and adopt then, too.

🐾 Meet Sugar! 🐾
Age: 9 months
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier

If her name didn’t give it away, Sugar is exactly as sweet as she sounds! This loving 9-month-old pittie pup is the perfect mix of goofy puppy energy and melt-into-your-lap cuddles. She adores people, loves to be praised, and is happiest when she’s close to her humans.
Sugar is still young, so she’s eager to learn and would thrive with someone who can continue her training and show her the ropes. She’s smart, treat-motivated, and already mastering the basics.
She’s looking for a family who will love her, guide her, and give her the safe, happy home she deserves. In return, she’ll give you endless tail wags, kisses, and devotion.
If you’re ready to add a little sweetness to your life, Sugar is waiting to meet you!

Coco was pretty stressed in a shelter environment so she'll be staying in a home in between open adoptions. She wanted to show you all HOW GREAT SHE IS DOING IN A HOME ATMOSPHERE!!ā¤ļøā¤ļø.. she's so relaxed and at ease and playful and affectionate! She will be available to meet at all open adoptions so please stop in and visit her and her friends. One word of warning though... She is an escape artist and will rush for doors so she would need to be watched carefully in a new home! Open Adoption hours: Wednesdays from 6pm-8pm and Saturdays from noon to 3pm!!

Meet Razzberry! Razzberry is a very cute 6 month old black and white female kitten. She’s perfectly fine, but is actually pretty calm and laid back for a kitten. She’s the ā€˜silent observer’. She likes to sit in the background and watch while all the other kittens romp and play. If you want a kitten, but without the constant zoomies and craziness of typical kittens, Razzberry could be your girl! She’s easily overlooked because all the other crazy kittens are playing and chasing each other all the time. Please take a few minutes to meet Razzberry and see if you can connect with her. Perhaps she just needs that loving human to help her learn how to play and have fun! She fine with other cats, has all her shots and is ready to go home! If you are interested in giving Razzberry the life she deserves, please fill out our online application or stop in during open hours Wednesday 6-8pm or Saturday from 12-3pm.

Meet Rosie! Rosie is a newcomer at LHS! She's approximately 3 years old and a medium hair black and white female with a sweet bushy tail. 6 weeks ago she was semi feral and you could barely get near her and I actually had doubts if she'd come around at all. And here we are 6 weeks later, she is still a little skittish from her life in the wild, but she has miraculously turned into an absolute LOVE!ā¤ļøā¤ļø Go a little slow with her at first and she'll just melt right into your hands. She has adapted exceptionally well in a home with multiple other cats and a respectful dog and would be a lovely addition to any home! To be successful, and not make Rosie run and hide, smaller children need to take it slow with her and be respectful and offer play with her. Rosie is spayed, dewormed and has all her shots and is ready to go home now. If you are interested in giving Rosie the life she deserves, please fill out our online application or stop in during open hours Wednesday 6-8pm or Saturday from 12-3pm.
Additional photo, video and online adoption application are in comments..
