Fortunately, there are many wonderful animal shelters and rescue organizations that are working hard to find forever homes for these adorable animals. June is National Adopt a Cat Month. If you are thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, now is the perfect time to adopt. If you are not in a position to adopt, you can still help by fostering a cat. Fostering provides a safe and loving temporary home for a cat or kitten while they are waiting to be adopted. As it so happens, June is also National Foster a Pet Month!

Happy National Otter Day!

Otters are such cute beings that do the cutest things. You can't help but fall in love with them. Did you know that otters hold each other's hands when they sleep so they don't drift apart? They are also very social and vocal. They are probably the most intelligent members of the weasel family, apart from the honey badger. They are also the only aquatic mammal that does not have a layer of blubber to keep them warm, so they need to keep moving and cuddling.

Fun Fact Friday!

We all know that cats are extremely fond of fish - especially when it comes from the can. It is okay to treat your cat to a little bit of tuna fish but not as an entire meal. It is important to remember that tuna is high in mercury, a toxic metal that can accumulate inside the fish itself. Mercury is dangerous for cats to consume in large amounts as it can harm their kidneys and increase the risk of kidney failure. A steady diet of tuna prepared for humans can lead to malnutrition because it won't have all the nutrients a cat needs.
Feed your cat tuna like it's a treat, meaning only give your cat tuna occasionally and only up to 10% of their day's calories. As part of a balanced diet, you can safely offer one teaspoon of tuna a few times a week, or about one-half can per month.
