Session C of National Horse Camp came to a close with everyone’s favorite … Ba****ck Riding! Campers had a blast enjoying games and relays as they showed off the riding skills they’ve learned over the last week! We hope to see everyone galloping into the Ranch next summer for National Horse Camp 2025!

While some campers who take lessons regularly worked on their equitation over poles and steadying their leg for jumping others who don’t ride English much (and some who are brand new to English) worked on building the foundation of English riding!

Well morning storms resulted in a short power outage which meant vet class outdoors! Campers learned all about the importance of taking and knowing your horse’s vitals! They even got to try their hand at checking some of them including checking for gut sounds and taking their temperature! Of course, not everyone is fond of how you have to check a horse’s temperature so we get some funny faces!!

Chores, chores, and more chores! Life on a farm comes with a lot of animals that have to be cared for daily! Today campers learned about caring for small ruminants as well as how to make homemade butter from farm fresh cream thanks to the abundance that Daisy, our Jersey cow, provides!

After a morning of chores, it was time to head to the chuckwagon for a yummy breakfast! Fresh rolled oatmeal, homemade banana bread, and grass-fed beef sausage is a great way to fuel up for a fun day at camp! Campers even learned about the health benefits of fresh rolled oats and got to try their hand at rolling oats themselves!

The first full day of National Horse Camp came to a close with a night of boot stompin’ fun thanks to Cannon Creek Bluegrass Band that provided perfect toons to dance the night away!! Josh, one of our camp wranglers, and Emma, his sister and one of our camp assistants, even showed off some of their awesome dance moves that left the campers in awe!
