has been busy prepping for the 2025 season!

We know winter is a season of rest but we plan to level up and that prep work starts early. As many people prepare for a deep cold snap next week, Josh has been preparing beds and fixing the greenhouse. Tropical storm Debbie and Helene did a number on our greenhouse this year and ripped the plastic on both ends and the sides.

The cover crops and spinach are still looking good and established so we hope they make it through next week. The low is supposed to get to 16° here but bounce back up until the 40s the next day.

Rogue turned 2 years old today! Still so glad we were crazy enough to have puppies at the same time as a new baby!

I wouldn’t trade this life for anything! I’m thankful for the capable, intelligent and loyal dog she is turning into. A wonderful example of the breed and what I want to produce from our program.

We’ve got big goals ahead this year and I look forward to seeing what leaps she’s willing to take!

Celebrating Christmas was different this year - there were conversations and interactions that we have prayed for.

2024 humbled us in so many ways. We made it to the end of the year and we look forward to the path we plan to take in 2025.

Additions, losses, trials and tribulations all made us stronger this year. Happy Holidays from our family to yours!

Later the pups will get raw bones from the homestead to clean their teeth and gums!

We celebrated our girl today at one of her favorite places,

She is in her element there as an animal lover and there isn’t a moment that a smile isn’t on her face when we visit this experience. Last year there was a green sea turtle that had hatched the same day and shared the name Scout. Such a fun memory. We learned today that Scout had been released back into the wild in October and met a new turtle there today.

We enjoyed lunch after at in Wilmington and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food!

Here’s your reminder to fill empty jars by emptying the freezer from your veggie scraps!

This pot of future golden broth includes a turkey carcass we butchered last fall, roasted chicken bones, a good splash of homemade Michigan apple cider vinegar and lots of vegetable scraps including garlic, onion, carrots and celery we grew.

Can’t wait to use this broth in a soup later this winter!

We’ve started into the season of indoor projects!

Josh spent one week remodeling this greatly outdated bathroom! We used a new-to-us pedestal sink and were gifted the mirror. The paint is the same we used for our shutters and front door, adding a nice accent wall.

The next project is updating our pantry a bit and Josh has rearranged the laundry/utility room with the help of his dad! More on those projects to come!

All of our projects have always been a part of a bigger picture and prioritized accordingly. We’ve done minimal updates to the house since we moved in and focused heavily on the outside and garden. Now it is time to update and remodel our house to be one without 5 different types of floor including dark green and red carpet.

We had our first true hard frost, reminding ourselves what a blessing it is to have such a long growing season.

While everything goes dormant, it’s this time of year that our dogs’ energy and activity increases. Owning a double-coated breed, they relish in the cooler weather. This is the time of year I increase their protein, especially incorporating partial raw from our own freezers stocked with goodies from the homestead.

For most it’s a slow season, for us it’s more of shifting gears to focus our energy in another direction. What are you focusing on this season?

We have 2 whole and one half share or 5 half shares available! This is grass-fed, grass-finished lamb that we will be taking to the butcher next week! The meat will be dry-aged for 7 days and then packaged for your convenience.

This was an awesome opportunity we couldn’t pass up to partner with some fellow homesteaders!

We are excited to announce that we are offering 5 HALF LAMB SHARES!

These are grass-fed, grass-finished St. Croix sheep raised holistically and rotationally grazed on forage.

The half shares offer 30-40lbs of varied cuts to your preference for a total of $250. We do have whole options available for a $200 deposit with the remaining $300 due at pick up. 2023 was a longgggg year with so many highs and lows! We are ready to narrow our focus in this new year and dial back on some things that didn’t quite work out for us.We are excited to be adding 2 more pups to our program this year along with 2 planned litters. We are excited to focus on the garden in a different way and add in some flowers. About Us

Nestled just a few miles from Interstate 95, the homestead looks like any other ranch-style brick house. The 1.24 acres the house sits on does not look like any other as we have turned the flat sandy soil into grazing ground for our pastured, non-GMO meat birds. Along with our meat birds, we also raise Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red & Whiting True Greens, also pastured, non-GMO fed, for only the best brown and green eggs.

​As our homestead grows, we will be adding quail, duck, turkey, and in 2021, PIGS! We are working on broken soil that has been farmed for generations and can only hope that our restorative farming puts some life back into it.

​Why the name you ask? Well, we raise Australian Shepherds! A small venture we started almost 3 years ago, we are awaiting our next breeding season for our second litter of puppies!
