Thank you so much for your interest!

Our homeschool course is fully booked and all Raising for Families birds have been reserved at this time.

We will extend the harvest help options and offer more bird deposits for a second round that will be available mid-summer. That deadline will be February 1st for deposits up to 30 birds.

We have limited availability as we operate on smaller scale but the quality is our focus. These chickens are rotated on fresh pasture and supplementally fed a quality non-GMO feed.

The homeschool course will have a curriculum to follow along for one hour weekly for 11 weeks and a full in-depth harvest day on the 12th week.

If you have already signed up, please check your email over the weekend for more details!

A good reminder to just keep doing what you’re doing no matter what is going on around you!

Our world is about to change but we will keep growing food and healing our bodies from the inside out. We will keep working our dogs and rotating our livestock. We will keep preserving the bounty our wild garden gave us this year. We will keep raising our daughter to be kind and show her love. We will keep praising the one who blessed us with life and loss.

I’ve said this before, we see more of God on our little acre and a quarter than most people see inside of a church.

What are you going to keep doing?

I haven’t picked a date yet but this is one of the last few days this handsome boy will graze in our pastures.

I’ve shared at several homesteading conferences on the topic of Homesteading on a Budget. When we discussed harvesting him this fall, I knew I needed to remember to add that line item into Novembers budget.

When homesteading on a budget, you have to think about the year as a whole as much as on a monthly and weekly basis. Some months you may have extra income and some months you may eat solely out of your pantry and freezer and need to limit your diet.

Josh says it all the time, “how bad do you want it?”

That question can to applied to every aspect of your life, especially when it comes to homesteading on a budget. There are sacrifices that must be made and plans that are thought out well ahead of time.

Before we say yes to purchasing materials for a project, we discuss how much it’s going to cost and if we have the time to dedicate to the project’s completion in a reasonable timeframe.

With that said, my plans for this wethers pelt means I need it to be cold enough outside and have a day where I can complete the process of starting the sealing process. I also need to make sure I have the materials on hand and a place to put the pelt once my job is complete.

We have jumped head first into so many projects without the planning to have learned our lesson. It is so much more rewarding to have the means, both time and money, to complete a project you have worked so hard to orchestrate.

What’s a project you are planning this month?

A project soon to commence is transforming this tiny greenhouse into a rabbit nursery for hopeful litters this winter.

We currently have 5 rabbits, 4 does and 1 buck. Hoping to breed two of the girls later this coming week but I’d love to have this greenhouse project completed before they kit!

And ideas to help me brainstorm?

Our first cloudy morning in a while… as I tended the chicken this morning, I saw this bit of wool on the crab apple branch.

A funny thought occurred - there will be things left behind that the next owner of this property will discover. We plan to move in the next two years and with that, we plan to prepare this property for the next set of hands to tend it.

They’ll find bits of wool on old branches, feathers in the grass, tiny bones in the garden, volunteer vegetables and herbs and so much more. The next hands on this soil will experience life and reap the benefits of the hard work we have put into this property.

A funny thought for the morning but one I am excited to have. We knew this would never be our forever home but it never stopped us from bettering what we have.

I finally met Adam from in person a few weeks ago at the Homesteaders of America conference and we did a book exchange!

Josh and our friend Justin tuned into his talk and asked questions, gaining confidence to dive deeper into bees. We’ve been talking a lot about next year and the goals we have.

Along with Adam, having and in our lives has been encouraging to add bees to our property despite having a variety of pollinators already visiting our garden.

If you are looking into bees, these three incredible people are who you want to check out!

Golden hour working dogs with .g.brand.aussies tonight! Forever thankful God put these two in our lives!

At the recent Homesteaders of America conference at the speaker Q & A, in response to a question regarding pressure from society, Joel Salatin something very profound.

“Don’t be afraid to cull people out of your life, but also be sure to cultivate friendships too.”

What a great reminder - we are thankful and blessed by the friendships in our lives.

About Us

Nestled just a few miles from Interstate 95, the homestead looks like any other ranch-style brick house. The 1.24 acres the house sits on does not look like any other as we have turned the flat sandy soil into grazing ground for our pastured, non-GMO meat birds. Along with our meat birds, we also raise Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red & Whiting True Greens, also pastured, non-GMO fed, for only the best brown and green eggs.

As our homestead grows, we will be adding quail, duck, turkey, and in 2021, PIGS! We are working on broken soil that has been farmed for generations and can only hope that our restorative farming puts some life back into it.

Why the name you ask? Well, we raise Australian Shepherds! A small venture we started almost 3 years ago, we are awaiting our next breeding season for our second litter of puppies!
