K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore

K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore An all-breed, 501c3 rescue dedicated to improving the lives of dogs in underserved areas of VA & MD. We focus on removing dogs from 24/7 chaining.

K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore was founded by like-minded animal lovers determined to make a difference for the many local dogs in need. Our mission is to rescue the abandoned, neglected, abused, sick and injured from some of the most unthinkable circumstances. We provide medical attention and rehabilitate the dogs that enter our rescue program. Once medical and behavioral issues have been rectif

ied, our dogs are then made available for adoption to qualified, loving homes. These dogs are forgotten, thus forced to live a life of solitude, often in filthy inhumane conditions where they slowly suffer . We also educate people about the importance of proper care, spay/neuter and providing essential veterinary attention to ensure good health.

---WAYS TO HELP---

Adopt, if you can’t adopt, foster, if you can’t foster, volunteer, if you can’t volunteer, donate, if you can’t donate, educate. Designate our organization as your charity on Amazon Smile and iGive. It costs you nothing to participate! Please visit our website or page for further details. Donate supplies including but not limited to food, toys, collars, leashes, flea medications, cleaning supplies, dog houses, kennel panels, fencing etc. Donate funds to our vetting account at Layfield Veterinary Services (Pocomoke or Princess Anne locations) or call (410) 957-0105, donations may also be made through PayPal or mail. Do not support breeders, instead promote adoption. Educate others about the proper care of animals. Spay/neuter, vaccinate, utilize flea, tick and heartworm preventatives and annual check ups with your veterinarian to ensure good health.

MEET THE DOG(s)... Pepper is very stereotypical frenchie.... outgoing, somewhat mischievous, often stubborn, & a *FANTASTIC* pocket inspector. Do you have issues with guests, the pizza guy, food on the floor, or dog toys going unnoticed in your home? Since her arrival in rescue, seldom has a visitor succeed in entering her foster home without being thoroughly greeted & inspected for any contraband kibbles they may be attempting to smuggle!

Pepper is house trained & crate trained, but LOVES spending time with you, either at your feet or on your lap. She is good with most small dogs & cats, but is not crazy about large dogs or tiny humans.

Adopters committed to perimeter patrols (leash walking) in areas where she can be admired & who are in need of constant reminders regarding dog toys (or lack thereof) are her preferences. Telling Pepper "no-no-drop-that-you-french-tart" is unwise and will only result in an extensive game of Chase Me You Human Fool.

If you think PEPPER is the dog for you, please fill out an adoption application today!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PEPPER
Breed: french bulldog
Age: 3.5 years
Weight: 23 pounds
Adoption Fee: $375
Vetting Status: spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative and maintained on preventatives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PEPPER is available for adoption through K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore.

Veterinary and personal reference checks, and a home visit/meet-n-greet are required PRIOR to being approved to adopt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PLEASE NOTE ~ All of our rescue members are volunteers with many obligations. While we may not be capable of immediate response, we will respond to all inquiries and application submissions as soon as possible. Thank you for thinking adoption!
💩💩INTERNATIONAL POOPER SCOOPER WEEK💩💩
Do You ??? What goes in must come out. That’s why the first week in April is International Pooper Scooper Week - to educate pet owners on the importance of cleaning up after their dogs.
The Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists (aPaws) estimates that pet pooches produce over 4.4 billion pounds of waste per year. That amount could cover 900 football fields with 12 inches of dog waste!
Pet waste is smelly, unsightly, messy and attracts bugs and rodents. It is also a health risk to both people and other pets, and adding harmful bacteria and nutrients to local waters, when not disposed of properly.
In many areas, it is required by law to pick up your pet's p**p and dispose of it properly.
HOW CAN YOU OBSERVE ??
💩Do your doody and pick up after your dog.
A sad, oddly close to real-life holiday parody borrowed from a fellow rescue's page.
Paw-lease take a moment to read & understand this is the ugly "behind-the-scenes" we see all the time in rescue. Our volunteers are a tiny crew doing what we can for the lucky few we are able to save.
If you can't be part of the solution, please just dont be part of the problem.
A RESCUERS ANSWERING MACHINE:
Hello: You have reached ___-____, Everywhere Rescue. Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation:
Press 1 if you have a 10-year-old dog and your 15-year-old son has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away.
Press 2 if you are moving today and need to immediately place your 150 pound, 8-year-old dog.
Press 3 if you have three dogs, had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs at the same time.
Press 4 if you just got a brand new puppy and your old dog is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away.
Press 5 if your little puppy has grown up and is no longer small and cute and you want to trade it in for a new model.
Press 6 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home TODAY and pick up the dog you no longer want.
Press 7 if you have been feeding and caring for a "stray" for the last three years, are moving and suddenly determine it's not your dog.
Press 8 if your dog is sick and needs a vet but you need the money for your vacation.
Press 9 if you are elderly and want to adopt a cute puppy who is not active and is going to outlive you.
Press 10 if your relative has died and you don't want to care for their elderly dog because it doesn't fit your lifestyle.
Press 14 if you are calling at 6 a.m. to make sure you wake me up before I have to go to work so you can drop a dog off on your way to work.
Press 15 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog in our yard in the middle of January, which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog with no message.
Press 16 if you are going to get angry because we are not going to take your dog that you have had for fifteen years, because it is not our responsibility.
Press 17 if you are going to threaten to take your ten year old dog to be euthanized because I won't take it.
Press 18 if you're going to get angry because the volunteers had the audacity to go on vacation and leave the dogs in care of a trusted volunteer who is not authorized to take your personal pet.
Press 19 if you want one of our PERFECTLY trained, housebroken, kid and cat friendly purebred dogs that we have an abundance of.
Press 20 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighbor's cats.
Press 21 if you have already called once and been told we don't take personal surrenders but thought you would get a different person this time with a different answer.
Press 22 if you want us to use space that would go to a stray to board your personal dog while you are on vacation, free of charge, of course.
Press 23 if it is Christmas Eve or Easter morning and you want me to deliver an eight week old puppy to your house by 6:30 am before your kids wake up.
Press 24 if you have bought your children a duckling, chick or baby bunny for Easter and it is now Christmas and no longer cute.
Press 25 if you want us to take your female dog who has already had ten litters, but we can't spay her because she is pregnant again and it is against your religion.
Press 26 if you're lying to make one of our younger volunteers feel bad and take your personal pet off your hands.
Press 27 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because it is declawed, but you are not willing to accept the responsibility that the cat's behavior is altered because of your nice furniture.
Press 28 if your two year old male dog is marking all over your house but you just haven't gotten around to having him neutered.
Press 29 if you previously had an outdoor only dog and are calling because she is suddenly pregnant.
Press 30 if you have done "everything" to housebreak your dog and have had no success but you don't want to crate the dog because it is cruel.
Press 31 if you didn't listen to the message asking for an evening phone number and you left your work number when all volunteers are also working and you are angry because no one called you back.
Press 32 if you need a puppy immediately and cannot wait because today is your daughter's birthday and you forgot when she was born.
Press 33 if your dog's coat doesn't match your new furniture and you need a different color or breed.
Press 34 if your new love doesn't like your dog and you are too stupid to get rid of the new friend (who will dump you in the next month anyway) instead of the dog.
Press 35 if you went through all these 'options' and didn't hear enough. This press will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog while the vet mercifully frees him from the grief of missing his family.
In Flander's Field by John McCrae
----------
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow,
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead.
Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved and now we lie,
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw,
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us, who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow,
In Flanders Fields.
Introducing our newest intake, Indigo! This beautiful brindle XL girl landed in a North Caroline shelter after being given up by her owner. This was likely a very fortunate break as she is only 3 years old and heartworm POSITIVE! :(
Indigo sat for many weeks patiently awaiting her second chance. This week she became highly critical, and we agreed to step up so that her life could be spared. We are just getting to know her, but she is super sweet, wiggles her entire body & loves to give her humans kisses. She is also VERY dog friendly!
Without a doubt Indigo's vetting will be quite expensive! If you are able to donate to assist us in getting Indigo well, we would be so very appreciative.
07/28/2023
If you are ever given any hint, any explanation on why a rescue was unable to approve you to adopt? Or just that they took time to tell you a dog went elsewhere & not leave you hanging? You should be EXTREMELY grateful.
The rescue clearly likes you enough to take time out to give you a clue how to find a better match...... or cares enough about you to explain why you're prob great, but this specific dog needs a different home setting..... or.... well, you get the picture.
Rescues are typically run by UNPAID volunteers who sacrifice their personal time to help the animals. A single dog passing through rescue involves HOURS & hours of this precious resource of time....... to pickup from shelters, take to vet, photograph & write-up an adoption bio, answer dozens or more dead-end inquires, screen applications for a home that matches in the important ways & not just loves those cute photos on Petfinder.
We are here FOR THE DOGS. We are here to nurse them back to health & find them well-matched forever homes.
Rescues are NOT here to takes threats or demands. We are not here to give YOU what YOU want because you promised your kids they could have a puppy over summer break (or some similar bologna).
We will not risk an unstable, unhappy applicant verbally abusing or doxx'ing our volunteers at their personal homes, workplaces, phone lines, etc. YES some have foolishly done that to us in the past. NO, they did not get the dog & some even go a talkin' to by their local po-po, if you catch our drift.
Disagree with our adoption criteria in general or what our foster parents have determined a specific dog needs in a successful forever home? Fine. Your choices are go elsewhere ( ) to get a dog........ or try RESPECTFULLY, politely explaining why you are a good pet parent & think we might have made a mistake, how/why you would like to be considered for future pets.
If you are a great doggie person & your recent application has taken longer than expected to process, we apologize. We try our best. Our resources are limited. We have had a larger than normal amount of Drama Karens sucking our time into dead ends, causing extra delays in application processing & replies.
Please forgive us you wonderful pet people......... and maybe even join us hissing & booing at all the folks whose ego is bigger than their brain when it comes to finding their lifelong furry companion.
--------------------------------------------------
P.S. For all the Karen/Ken's out there who have recently tried implying we discriminate against their political or demographic specifics because they didn’t get our dog....... K9-ES is comprised of volunteers & adopts to folks from all walks of life. We don’t care about your ethnic minority, LGBTQ status, politics, religious (or not) beliefs, physical disability, rental -vs- owns house status, field of work, etc.
Implying otherwise will only get you behind-the-scenes booed, mocked & eye rolled at. A volunteer, someone who is likely also of that group your touchy about belonging to, will then take one last moment of our precious time to block & banned you from ever contacting us again. Who knows, we may even write this rant & post it to the rescue page. 🤔🤔🤷🤷‍♀️
MEET THE DOG(s)... Wayne & Garth are a pint sized celebrity duo, now ready to "party on" as a solo act.
They are currently 11 weeks old, crate trained, & working on potty skills. Both are super sweet, sassy, & smart. Full of doxie-moxie & beagle-tude would also be good description of this tiny set of thunder paws.
The boys will be ready for new homes in mid-July. We encourage you to submit an adoption application ASAP if interested, as we expect them to be adopted quickly!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Breed: dachshund + beagle (best guess)
Age: 11 weeks
Weight: 6 pounds
Adoption Fee: $375

Vetting Status: neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed and maintained on heartworm preventatives

WAYNE & GARTH are available for adoption through K-9 Rescue of the Eastern Shore.

An adoption process is required to include filling out an online adoption application available at the following link -- https://www.k9rescuees.org/info/adoption

Veterinary and personal reference checks, and a home visit/meet-n-greet are required PRIOR to being approved to adopt. The time frame for completing this process depends largely on how quickly references respond, your vet office is able to speak to us (some want written permission first), your landlord or HOA (if applicable) confirms their approval for a pet, & how your schedule aligns with that of our volunteer(s) for the Home Visit.
~~~~~~~~~~
PLEASE NOTE ~ All of our rescue members are volunteers with many obligations. While we may not be capable of immediate response, we will respond to all inquiries and application submissions as soon as possible. Thank you for thinking adoption!
Monday's Magic(marker) moment.... while celebrating July 4th, please keep your pets safe. Most do not like fireworks and can get spooked easily.
