Charlie is one of our newest rehab graduates and we are so proud of this cute boy! He presented to Dr. Amy with a case of spondylosis (degeneration of spinal disks) and she recommended a consult with Dr. Emmy. Just a few sessions of soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercise, laser therapy, and acupuncture helped to relieve Charlie's discomfort. It is amazing how far a little rehab can go 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Deanna Taub will join the Riverview team in July and will begin taking appointments in August! Dr. Deanna grew up on Sanibel Island in Florida but fell in love with the mountains after spending nearly every summer in the Durango area since she was 8 years old. Ever since then, it has been her dream to help the people and pets of Colorado. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida and then her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University. Dr. Deanna has special interests in dentistry, nutrition, pain management, and feline/canine behavior. When she’s not taking care of furry friends, she enjoys riding her horse (Lance), spending time with her cats (Jax and Lillian), hiking, skiing, and finding the best local coffee shops. Please give Dr. Deanna a warm welcome to Durango. We are so glad that she is bringing her skills to Riverview 🩺

Rehab graduate Jessie was a delight to work with! This 6-year-old Lab had a TPLO procedure in March and has been working hard to regain mobility ever since. Laser therapy, shockwave treatments, underwater treadmill sessions... this girl has done it all and never stopped smiling. Congrats, Jessie 🌟

Randi (or "Little Randi," as she is often affectionately called to avoid confusion with Dr. Randy) is a Durango native, has been at Riverview for almost four years, and is one of our most versatile staff members! She started here as a Kennel Tech, worked briefly as a CSR before being trained as a Veterinary Assistant, and is now working to become a registered technician. We are so proud of how much Randi has grown in her time here. She is awesome 💙

This sweet face belongs to Frankie, an 8-year-old mixed breed that presented to Dr. Emmy in April with hind limb weakness. Thanks to her patience with therapeutic exercise, soft tissue massage, and underwater treadmill therapy, Frankie's hind limbs are feeling much stronger. Frankie's parents credit her rehab experience for her improved mobility and overall quality of life. We credit Frankie for being a certified good girl 🌟

Why do veterinarians sometimes recommend bloodwork for your pet? Because abnormalities that impact organ systems increase in likelihood with age. Although your pet may not show symptoms (yet), screening bloodwork can give us a peek into the future and allow us to treat abnormalities before they get out of control. Early detection of abnormalities can make a huge difference in outcome for pets 🩸

Make sure that you supervise your pets if you bring them fishing with you. To a dog, a fish hook smells great. Even an unbaited hook carries the scent of your last catch... so if you're not careful, your next catch just might be your best friend! We treat multiple dogs every summer with fish hooks in various places that they shouldn't be 🐟

This adorable Jack Russell Terrier is named Logan and during a recent visit with Dr. Jessica, Logan's family enrolled him in a PAW Plan. In addition to the dental procedure he will need later this year, Logan's PAW Plan covers the cost of his annual wellness exam, his vaccines, and his recommended yearly labwork -- all at a discount! This adorable Heeler named Scarlett has been displaying mild lameness in her hind limbs. Lucky for her, her parents decided to schedule a rehab consult with Dr. Emmy. At first, Scarlett was very nervous but after only one visit she relaxed inside the hospital and began to show progress with her mobility. We are excited to see what additional progress therapeutic exercise and laser therapy can help Scarlett achieve 🌟

Dr. Amy recently saw a Basset named Tippy for a Same Day Examination, and it turns out her family runs Golden Gate Basset Rescue out of Northern California. We wanted to give them a shout out because if anything makes us happier than these gentle and affectionate dogs, it's an organization that finds great homes for them 🐶

Maddie has been at Riverview for a little over a year and a half and splits her time between assisting doctors with routine exams and caring for injured and ill patients in Urgent Care. She is originally from Arizona and has a Heeler mix named Copper 💙

This handsome guy is named Thor, and when he started vomiting recently, his mom rushed him right to Riverview. Because Thor is on a PAW Plan that includes a Same Day Examination, she knew that she could afford to start getting some answers from a doctor. That peace of mind is priceless! We wanted to give you an update on our friend, Calvin. He has been doing so well with physical therapy and laser treatments that he is now walking. He has definitely come a long way from being paralyzed to slowly wagging his tail to now walking up ramps! We are so proud of you, Calvin! 💖👏🎉

Dr. Lynda is excited to be preforming TPLO (Tibal Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgeries for the Durango area! A big thank you to Dr. Katie, who helped assist in the launching of these surgeries! Larissa is a 9 year old Shepherd mix who has had chronic knee issues and Dr. Lynda was happy to help repair her knee with this procedure.

Calvin came in and was diagnosed with a blood clot in his spine. He is paralyzed but he is fighting hard to recover. Please send your good thoughts and wishes to Calvin and his family! 💖

Public announcement for Colorado dog owners! (Please excuse my hair! I just took my surgery hat off!!) Dr. Stacee

Margie came into our facility on Saturday. She wasn't feeling well and she presented with vomiting and lethargy. Margie is an 18 month old kitten who loves playing with strings. When supervised strings can provide exercise and mental stimulation. When left unsupervised cats may actually swallow the string, which can be dangerous and cause serious complications. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened with Margie and she needed emergency surgery to remove the string. We provided the surgery free of charge and she recovering well. However, we need your help in finding a forever home for Margie. Please call us or message us here if you want to welcome Margie into your family. She is loving and kind and full of snuggles.

Daisy came in and presented with coughing and respiratory distress. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and was transferred to a specialist in Albuquerque for 24 hour care. She spent 6 days there and was released because she was improving. Unfortunately, she relapsed and returned to our facility. She has been here since June 1st. We are happy to report that she has improved and is heading home today! We are so proud of our little fighter Daisy! 😊🎉💖
