Riverview Animal Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked p

harmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas. At Riverview Animal Hospital we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy. We believe in providing caring, consistent, and thorough clinical services to your pet. Whether you are visiting for a routine, affordable cost procedure or an emergency visit, you can expect the same level of excellent care- every visit.

We are blessed to work with thousands of pets with loving homes, but not all dogs and cats are so lucky. That's why we love giving back during the holiday season by hosting a supply drive to benefit , a great local organization that finds suitable homes for animals in need of families. If you would like to donate to the supply drive, please drop off your donation at either Riverview location before the end of the year. Thank you in advance for your generosity ❀

Our mobile app has changed! Please download "Happy Healthy Pets." We will monitor our old app until 12/31/2024 as our loyalty program draws to a close. Many members of the community have reached out to ask how our doctors feel about Colorado Proposition 129. They are opposed to the measure. If you would like to know why, please read the following column, which was written by Dr. Randy and submitted to The Durango Herald. Local veterinarians in agreement with this column are listed at its conclusion.

We are writing to express our concerns about Proposition 129, which proposes the creation of Veterinary Professional Associates (VPAs) with minimal training. As local veterinarians, we are deeply concerned about the risks this poses to pet health and safety. This measure would allow individuals with only two years of mostly online training to treat illnesses and perform surgery on pets. These trainees will have only one semester and one internship of hands-on clinical training and surgical exposure. This is highly inadequate and very dangerous for our pet population.

It is important to note that big-box corporate and other special interest groups have pushed this initiative forward, misleadingly presenting it as a grassroots effort.

Instead of creating a new role, Colorado veterinarians have urged the legislature to expand the capacity of our Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs). Recent laws have been enacted that allow us to broaden the scope of practice for CVTs, who currently have more hands-on clinical experience than VPAs would receive. By legally empowering CVTs, who are already integrated within our practices, we can enhance veterinary care without compromising safety.

We strongly encourage the community to vote no on Proposition 129 for the safety of our animals.

Sincerely,

Randy Hays, DVM

Today Dr. Karen treated a DINOSAUR that was found at our North location. The dinosaur spent some time in our oxygen unit, was fitted with a mask and cap, warmed up for a dental procedure, and even got an X-ray! If your child left behind this dinosaur toy at our North location, please give us a call so that we can arrange to return him to his rightful owner πŸ¦–

Charlie is one of our newest rehab graduates and we are so proud of this cute boy! He presented to Dr. Amy with a case of spondylosis (degeneration of spinal disks) and she recommended a consult with Dr. Emmy. Just a few sessions of soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercise, laser therapy, and acupuncture helped to relieve Charlie's discomfort. It is amazing how far a little rehab can go 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Deanna Taub will join the Riverview team in July and will begin taking appointments in August! Dr. Deanna grew up on Sanibel Island in Florida but fell in love with the mountains after spending nearly every summer in the Durango area since she was 8 years old. Ever since then, it has been her dream to help the people and pets of Colorado. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida and then her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University. Dr. Deanna has special interests in dentistry, nutrition, pain management, and feline/canine behavior. When she’s not taking care of furry friends, she enjoys riding her horse (Lance), spending time with her cats (Jax and Lillian), hiking, skiing, and finding the best local coffee shops. Please give Dr. Deanna a warm welcome to Durango. We are so glad that she is bringing her skills to Riverview 🩺

Rehab graduate Jessie was a delight to work with! This 6-year-old Lab had a TPLO procedure in March and has been working hard to regain mobility ever since. Laser therapy, shockwave treatments, underwater treadmill sessions... this girl has done it all and never stopped smiling. Congrats, Jessie 🌟

Randi (or "Little Randi," as she is often affectionately called to avoid confusion with Dr. Randy) is a Durango native, has been at Riverview for almost four years, and is one of our most versatile staff members! She started here as a Kennel Tech, worked briefly as a CSR before being trained as a Veterinary Assistant, and is now working to become a registered technician. We are so proud of how much Randi has grown in her time here. She is awesome πŸ’™

This sweet face belongs to Frankie, an 8-year-old mixed breed that presented to Dr. Emmy in April with hind limb weakness. Thanks to her patience with therapeutic exercise, soft tissue massage, and underwater treadmill therapy, Frankie's hind limbs are feeling much stronger. Frankie's parents credit her rehab experience for her improved mobility and overall quality of life. We credit Frankie for being a certified good girl 🌟
