Chiropractic offers tremendous potential in animal health care. It offers alternative explanations for biomechanical, neurological, and behavioral issues. The foundation of chiropractic philosophy is based on the intimate relationship of the spinal column to the nervous system as well as the role of the spinal column in biomechanics and movement. Many animals accumulate repetitive stress which ca

n lead to injuries and complicationsdown the road; some physical, some dietary, and all neurological. Chiropractic increases the performance of the animal by allowing afreedom of structure and energy which promotes improved biomechanics, greater health, mental acuity, and a growing awareness due to a greater lifeforce flow. Chiropractic promotes preventative care for your animals to keep them healthy and fully functioning throughout their lifetime.

Sweet Nora had a follow-up adjustment today that showed marked improvement from two weeks ago.

➡️Swipe to the last photo to see what a pickle she had gotten herself in 😨

Luckily she wasn’t too badly scathed, but she was definitely sore and defensive about her body the first time I worked with her…in addition to only being a yearling!

She’s much more comfortable now and ready to head to her first show coming up soon! Good luck and Nora! 🐴✨

Despite a side eye from Twizzle, he is feeling 100% compared to his first adjustment the week before.

Twizzle came in when his back became painful after a longer hike. He expressed obvious signs of discomfort that were very out of character; trembling, trying to hide, and would even freeze and walk backwards trying to get comfortable.
After a visit to his veterinarian, x-rays showed some DJD in his lumbar spine. During his first adjustment, he was very polite but clearly still experiencing some discomfort.
When he came in for a follow up appointment, he was back to feeling 100%…as shown by his unimpressed side eye in the photo. 🙄😏😂🐾balboni

I am making an effort to document more of my experiences and chiropractic cases I come across, and I keep forgetting to take before and after photos! 🤦‍♀️

I adjusted Oliver today, and saw some really neat pre and post changes that would have been SO cool to share… so I’m going to talk about it anyway and hopefully this instance will be my reminder in the future to take a picture or a video pre and post adjustment. 😉

Oliver is a big, stout 12 y/o Quarter Horse that was competing as a Versatility Ranch Horse. About 3 years ago, he unfortunately had an incident (speculating that he stepped in a prairie dog hole and went down) where he likely fractured his pelvis. Since then, he has been retired, as he never recovered fully enough to move correctly behind. He rope walks with his left hind leg and has a pretty significant asymmetry in his pelvis; left glute/side of his hip is raised and his right glute is dropped. His tail c***s to the left.

Before his adjustment today, we watched him walk, and then took a look at his pelvis by standing behind him to see the discrepancy. (This would have been the ideal time to take a picture 🤪)

After his adjustment, he was able to stand square, and was significantly more balanced/symmetrical in his pelvis than before. He still rope walked with his left hind, BUT the postural changes were remarkable.

In the photos that WERE taken, I am using a light force technique called Logan Basic which addresses the sacrotuberous ligament of the pelvis, and is able to relax the muscles of the back and help to balance the S.I. Joints and the spine. I put my block between me and the horse when working with their hind end for obvious safety reasons.

Val, a sweet Thoroughbred mare after her first adjustment.

Before recently bought her, she was used as a pack horse in the mountains, worked cows, and trail ridden.

I’m always amazed by the lives horses lead; their ‘origin story,’ and varied backgrounds/jobs they’ve been asked to do, and sometimes the long list of places they’ve lived.

Their body informs me of the story of their life through my hands. Old injuries, behavioral patterns/habits like setting back when tied up, poorly fitting tack, traumas/accidents…

But not all the stories are bad. Although it was apparent that Val’s been used for many ‘jobs,’ she was trusting, calm, and had a healthy nervous system that kept her regulated throughout her adjustment. She was a pleasure to work with and I’m excited to see how she blossoms in her new home with a very caring owner.

Meet Coco!

This lovable guy enjoys getting adjusted *maybe* as much as he likes the treats he gets when he comes in! 🐾🤤🦴

Coco turns 11 this year and is a large dog, so his family is doing all that they can to support his aging body and keep him moving well through his senior years. 🥰🐕‍🦺

It’s always an honor to work with senior dogs and contribute to their quality of life through chiropractic care. 💜

The ‘belly lift’ or sternal reflex that horses exhibit while having their sternal region scratched or stimulated causes:
The abdominal muscles to contract ➡️⬅️
The top line (back) to lift ⬆️
The head to lower⬇️

As long as a horse has shown me they are comfortable being asked to perform this reflex, I encourage their riders/handlers to incorporate this opening stretch/reflex into their horse care routine. ☺️🏇🏻

This is an awesome way to engage stabilizing muscles of the spine, open the spine and rib cage, and turn on abdominal muscles for support. 🩻🐴

Here, you can see Ford has conformation that, over time, could cause more of a sway back if he is not actively engaging his core. After his adjustment, I had his owner practice the belly lift and I took these photos to illustrate how much lift and engagement he is comfortably capable of! Pretty impressive! 💪🏼

Meet Vinny!

This handsome guy originally came in with some back tenderness after a weekend full of playing with other dogs. Vinny would drop his back when being pet, but otherwise was fairly stoic.

He was skeptical during his first two adjustments, but came in excited and exuberant on his third visit, and his back is feeling much better🙌🏻🐾🐕‍🦺

Named ‘Coolest Dog in Durango’ in 2020, Buddy came in for his monthly appointment today and was all smiles post adjustment! ✨😎🐾

He’s 12 now, and has played hard his entire life which has lead to lots of compensations throughout his body. Chiropractic care is one of the ways he stays mobile and comfortable as he ages! 💜🙌🏻🐕

As 2023 comes to an end, I have been reflecting on the year and the amazing opportunities I’ve been able to take part in. Most notably, I was a part of the crew and helped teach in Austria with a very elite group of animal chiropractors that have become like family over the years. These seminars are not only a way to expand and better the profession, but are also a way to collaborate and find community as well as continually learn and hone our skills. Taking part in these seminars locally, and abroad has been an incredible opportunity that I am forever grateful for.

While the seminars are standout moments, I absolutely enjoy the day-to-day of my work, and am honored to be entrusted with the care and betterment of so many beloved animals! It’s been a full year with many ups, downs and transitions and I’m excited to welcome 2024 😅🎉
