Saturdays, Available by Appointment Only Parker's Animal Rescue (formerly Lisa Parker's Puppies) strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. Parker's Animal Rescue strives

to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principles of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals.

🧡 Teaching Tuesday 🧡

As hunting season arrives, so does the need for extra caution when hiking or exploring with your dog. A high-visibility safety vest is one of the simplest ways to protect your furry friend in areas where hunters might be nearby.

Brightly colored vests, often in neon orange or yellow, make it easier for hunters and other hikers to spot your dog, reducing the risk of misidentification in thick woods or fields. Many vests are also designed with reflective strips, providing visibility during early mornings or late evenings, which are common times for both hikes and hunting activity. Along with helping to prevent accidents, these vests offer some protection from rough brush, thorns, and branches, which can help prevent scratches and minor injuries as your dog explores. This also makes it easier for you to spot your dog at a distance in dense or low-visibility areas, giving you extra peace of mind if they like to roam ahead on the trail.

To get the best results, make sure the vest fits snugly but comfortably, allowing your dog freedom of movement. Pair it with a collar that has your updated contact information in case of separation, and consider vests that have reflective strips for more visibility.

Sweet Penny, a beloved PAR alum, has crossed the rainbow bridge at a beautiful old age. She was adopted by the amazing Nancy Bills and fostered by our own Kim, who gave her so much love while she was with us.

Penny, thank you. Thank you for making the world a better place just by being in it. For the way you were always there for Nancy, warmth through every season of life. Thank you for every wag and wiggle, for being the happiest greeter at the door, the best cuddle buddy, the playful spirit who brought so much joy. You were such a good girl and a bright light in the lives of everyone lucky enough to know you.

Please remember to hold your pets close, everyone.

You never know when it’ll be their last time running to you with that wagging tail, their last snuggle, their last meal. Don’t wait to savor those little moments — the kisses, the cozy naps, the silly games that don’t have to end just yet. Love them hard, because you never know when you’ll have to say goodbye.

We want to give a big shoutout to Project Helping for sending us these awesome “Kynd Kits” for our adoptable animals!

Project Helping is a Colorado nonprofit that promotes volunteering as a tool to improve mental health. “Do good. Feel good.” One way they achieve this is through their “Kynd Kits” project, with over 20 different kits for different populations, such as children’s hospitals, those experiencing homelessness, shelter animals, chemo patients, senior citizens, and more. The Kynd Kits that PAR received included bandanas, homemade tug toys, leashes, p**p bags, and kitty toys!

This 6-7 month old pup, weighing around 20 pounds, was found in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico and wouldn’t have survived without rescue. Amari is an easygoing 5-month-old pup full of curiosity and playfulness. Amari loves her toys and enjoys chewing on bones, and she’s always eager to make new friends. She’s learning to walk on a leash and has already begun gently exploring the hiking trails and lakes around Durango.

This smart girl is also making steady progress with kennel training, sleeping soundly through the night. She’s intrigued by the household cat and is figuring out how to make friends with everyone, including people and other pets. Amari is ready for her next adventure—could it be with you?

Teaching Tuesday -- Spooky Edition! 🎃

Halloween is a fun and festive time, but it can also pose some unique challenges for our beloved pets. To keep them safe during the spooky season, it's important to consider a few precautions. First, be mindful of the candy stash – many treats are toxic to animals, so keep it well out of reach. Also, the constant doorbell ringing and costumes can be stressful for pets, so create a quiet and safe space where they can retreat if they feel overwhelmed. Ensure your furry friends are properly identified with a collar or microchip, just in case they escape during all the commotion. Lastly, if you're dressing up your pet, make sure their costume is comfortable and doesn't restrict their movement or breathing. With some thoughtful planning, Halloween can be a fun and safe time for both you and your four-legged companions.

☀️ Success Story Saturday ☀️

This Saturday, we’re excited to celebrate Charlotte’s wonderful life with her adopter, Kelsey, and their family!

Kelsey shares, “Charlotte has been the best little adventure and snuggle buddy for almost 5 years now! She’s a great companion and loves hiking, skiing, biking, swimming, and, of course, snuggling after. She’s also a great big sister to her kitty brother, Squid.”

With their recent move to a new house on 3 acres, Charlotte has been enjoying having a yard all to herself—plenty of room for fun and exploration!

COURTESY POST — Looking for a home 🐾

"Narbona was found up on top of a mountain called Narbona Pass, as I was camping there for 3 days. He was malnourished, had been possibly a wild cat attack and was very weak. I couldn't bear to leave him behind. I took him home and had him checked out by a veterinarian, all he needed was some time and love to heal.

His wounds are healed and his spirit is happy! I have been taking him for runs with me for exercise and loves to play fetch. He loves balls, but tends to chew them up quickly. I have not let him of leash or to roam around the house. He does try to go after rabbits. I have a dog of my own and they've grown to love one another. He is protective when we go for runs and alerts me when someone comes near the house. He is friendly towards others and may take some time to get to know other dogs. I have never had him inside the house because I have cats, I am not too sure he is fond of cats, he does try to run after rabbits. He is very playful and happy, but does get overly excited when it's time to play. I have managed to teach him to sit. He is still learning not to jump.

He is just a happy guy and would make a great best friend! He loves to love and needs someone that has time and patience to play with him. He has had all his shots and is neutered."

Hey everyone, I’m Amari, and I’m looking for my forever family! 💖 I may be young, but I’m already learning all about this big, exciting world. I love playing with toys, chewing on bones, and making new friends (people, dogs, and even cats—though I’m still figuring those out 🐱). I recently went on my first hike around Durango and had the BEST time splashing in Haviland Lake! 💦 I’m also getting pretty good at walking on a leash, so I’m ready for many more adventures. 🏞️

At home, I’m mastering kennel training—I sleep like a champ through the night. I’m super curious about everything and can’t wait to keep learning. My foster family says I’m easygoing and playful, but I’m also a sweet, snuggly girl when it’s time to relax. 💕

🧡 ADOPT FRANKIE 🧡 Male. Approximate DOB: 12/30/23. Weight: 10lbs on 8/30/24. This little boy is as sweet as can be, full of snuggles, licks and kisses, too. Reminiscent of a baby goat, Frankie jumps and twirls and bounces about equal time to walking and zooming around the yard. He’s good with other dogs, especially ones his size, or bigger ones that respect his wee size. Frankie is rather curious and wants to explore everything. He is very well-mannered, attentive to his humans, and comes to his name and a whistle. He gets a bit distracted at times, so he may need a little help focusing on meals and doing his business. 🐾 Teaching Tuesday: The Do's & Don'ts of Dog Play 🐶 Dog play is fun to watch and an important part of socialization! But not all interactions are considered appropriate play. Knowing the signs of healthy play can help avoid fights and stress for both dogs and humans. Here are some key “do’s” and “don’ts” when supervising playtime: Do's: ✔️ Play bows – A clear signal that your dog is inviting fun! ✔️ Chase and wrestling – If both dogs seem engaged and happy. ✔️ Breaks and self-regulation – When dogs naturally pause the action to catch a breath. Teaching Tuesday Did you know that chewing is good for your dog? That is as long as they're chewing on the right things. 😉 Here are just some of the benefits of letting your dog chew: - It relieves pent-up stress and anxiety. - It can improve their dental health. - It helps them channel their physical and mental energy into a specific activity. - It gives puppies a great outlet for teething and their tendency to explore the world with their mouths. While chewing is a great behavior to encourage, you need to associate it only with appropriate dog toys and treats, and nothing else! Try stuffing your pup's favorite toys and bones with peanut butter and kibble, freeze them, and your dog will be happily occupied! Need to purchase some new chew toys for your pup? Our Story

LPP strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. LPP follows up with post adoption training classes or a private session with one of our teachers. We recognize the importance of this teaching and post adoption support rather than just passing them on. Continuing their education and supporting adopters is key to our goals. Lisa Parker’s Puppies strives to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principals of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals.
