Saturdays, Available by Appointment Only Parker's Animal Rescue (formerly Lisa Parker's Puppies) strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. Parker's Animal Rescue strives

to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principles of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals.

Update on our gentle giant, Archie! 🐾 💕

Archie has always been waiting—for warmth, for love, for the chance to truly belong. And now, in ways we never could have predicted, he’s been given more time to find it.

Less than a week before his scheduled neuter and gastropexy (stomach tacking) surgery at AspenTree Animal Care with Dr. Carly and Dr. Emilie, Archie’s stomach suddenly began to twist on Valentine’s Day. A life-threatening emergency for deep-chested dogs like him, every second counted. He was rushed to Riverview Animal Hospital, where Dr. Shawn Clark and his team worked quickly to save his life, successfully untwisting and tacking his stomach. The emergency procedure was incredibly costly—but because of them, Archie is still here. His tail is still wagging. His goofy, love-filled spirit is still shining. And we are endlessly grateful.

Now, Archie is perfectly healthy and still looking for his forever home. He still needs his neuter—an important but costly procedure for an XL dog—but he’s otherwise ready to find the perfect family. If you’d like to support his continued care, donations of any amount are deeply appreciated. But more than anything, we are just thankful that this gentle giant is still with us, getting his second chance at the life he deserves.

Teaching Tuesday -- Avian Influenza & Your Pets 🦠

Colorado has confirmed 14 cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1) in felines since May 2024, including 10 domestic cats. Alarmingly, two recent cases were indoor-only cats exposed to raw poultry meat (chicken, turkey).

Key Takeaways for Pet Owners:
✅ Avoid feeding raw poultry to cats and dogs—contaminated raw food has tested positive for HPAI.
✅ Watch for early symptoms in cats: lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, respiratory issues, and in severe cases, neurological symptoms leading to death.
✅ Dogs' risk is currently unknown, but avoiding raw poultry is still advised.
✅ Veterinarians should report suspected cases immediately to aid in response efforts.

We need separate foster homes for a sweet momma dog (about 40 lbs) and her four adorable puppies, who are coming to PAR this Thursday!

This momma is ready for a fresh start. Momma is opening up and very sweet with people, and she has done fine with other dogs. Now, she just needs a safe place to land.

Meet Milan! ❤️

Milan, Spayed Female, 3 yrs old, Great Pyrenees mix, 63 lbs.

Milan arrived at Española Humane in northern NM in early August with a litter of pups, and while her kiddos have all been adopted, she is still looking for her own forever family!

Milan is as special as she is beautiful. We're not sure if it's Great Pyrenees or Anatolian, but this gal has definitely got a livestock guardian breed in her. This means that she's best suited for a home or ranch with room to roam. That being said, she is now accustomed to having dog door access and spending a lot of time curled up on the couch, so she wants to be a HOME dog where she can be spoiled, and have some people or dog buddies. She is fully house-trained. She's a smart girl with an independent personality, and she'll thrive in an environment that nurtures her instincts.

While Milan can easily jump most fences, she doesn’t leave her foster’s property because they are bonded. In a new home, she will absolutely need to build that relationship before being given too much freedom.

Our Story

LPP strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. LPP follows up with post adoption training classes or a private session with one of our teachers. We recognize the importance of this teaching and post adoption support rather than just passing them on. Continuing their education and supporting adopters is key to our goals. Lisa Parker’s Puppies strives to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principals of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals.
