It was another highly successful weekend for Durham Equestrian Club at the Triangle Farms Spring Indoors I C show at the state fairgrounds! The weather conditions were not in our favor on Saturday but we can always count on Joan Petty and the Triangle Farms staff to run their shows with the utmost proficiency and professionalism and this time did not disappoint. Even in the very heavily pouring rain, the horse show did not skip a beat and no classes were cancelled. It is so wonderful to have such a consistently well-run series with great staff and judges to take our program to. It gives our clients such great experiences and priceless memories.
We have had quite a few new pairs step out to shows for the first time this year and this show was no exception. It was so great to see even more people excelling within a program that we really believe in. This is only the beginning and we cannot wait to see everyone continue to thrive as the year goes on!
Congratulations to:
Kait Evangelous and the wonderful La Dolce Vita had an incredible weekend in their second show together, winning three of their four classes on Sunday, winning the NCHJA Low Child/Adult Medal both days and also coming in 5th in the $500 Triangle Hunter Derby on Saturday evening. This partnership has only gotten better with time and we are so proud of them both!
Piper Crouch and her Written In The Stars had a winning weekend as well with a win in the very competitive Low Child/Adult Equitation on the Flat as well as a 2nd in the Triangle Equitation Cup. They continued to be very consistent and competitive all weekend in the Low Childrens with a 5th in a very tough under saddle class, a 4th over fences, and a 5th in the all day warmup! We are so happy to see them looking their best!
Cleo Clarke has really forged a strong partnership with her new mount for 2024, the wonderful Consensus CKS. They are becoming a force to be reckoned with and pulled off an amazing win in Saturday’s $500 Triangle Hunter Derby, a 5th in the Open Hunter Derby on Friday, and then continued their success with great ribbons in the Low Childrens Hunter division in only their second show together. The future is so bright for this pair!
Endless Joy continued his winning ways with Maddy Harris, jumping to wins in the Low Children’s Hunter division on the way to the championship on Saturday as well as coming home with a 2nd place in the $500 Open Hunter Derby on Friday night. This was the pair’s very first outing at 2’6 and we could not be more proud of them!
Julia Von Dauber showed a new mount at this show, riding up and coming star Signora Fortuna to several wins and much success in the Children’s Pony Hunter Division. The pair started off on friday with a win in the schooling pony hunter division and continued their success over the weekend with more wins in the Children’s Pony Hunter Division as well as a win in the highly competitive Triangle Wee Equitation Cup and even got a ribbon in the Wee Hunter Derby. We are so proud of Julia’s consistency and hard work!
Stacey Bala & Endless Joy could only join us for one day but certainly made the best of it with a championship and class wins in the Low Adult Hunter division. They have forged a great partnership in their time together and we cannot to see what they accomplish together in 2024!
Emma Driscoll rode two mounts this weekend, taking on new challenges with ease and confidence. She brought a brand new to DEC pony, Overboard, to the show with the intention of showing her in the jumpers all weekend, but the weather had other ideas. With jumper classes pushed to late saturday night due to the downpour, Emma showed “Goldie” in the short stirrup hunters, winning several ribbons. She was able to show in the jumpers on Sunday once the rain stopped and had a great first experience, getting ribbons in every class, including a 2nd place. Emma also rode her longtime partner, Starry Night, to several wins in short stirrup hunters and equitation, coming away with a reserve champion on Saturday and a 3rd place in the Wee Hunter Derby! Way to go, Emma!
Shweta Thiagarajan and The Paddyman were rockstars in Shweta’s very first hunter/jumper show after coming to us from a saddleseat barn. Shweta and Paddy got better and more confident with every class they did, winning several classes on the way to ending their weekend with a reserve championship in the crossrail division. What a great pair they make!
Erinn Driscoll had an amazing weekend in only her second show cantering, taking home a co-championship ribbon on Sunday with our sweet pony Starry Night. She has made such great progress and we are so proud of her!
Megan Ashley rode her new mount, the wonderful large pony Rhythm and Blues, in the children’s pony division this weekend. Megan exuded confidence and skill with every round and every flat class and her hard work these past few months really paid for her in the best way. She and “DJ” were near the top of the results in every class they did, highlighted by a reserve championship in the childrens pony division and a 5th place ribbon in the $500 Wee Hunter Derby with a beautiful round, even jumping the 2’9 high option. We are so, so proud them both!
Rachel Myers and her newly leased mount, Kopeli CPF, knocked it out of the park in their first outing together in the Low Children’s Hunter Division, taking home the championship ribbon and winning several classes together. They also had a fantastic effort in the $500 Triangle Hunter Derby, taking home the 4th place ribbon. We cannot wait to see all of the things these two achieve in the future!
Liza Johnson stepped up in her first multi-day Triangle show on Glenhaven Eton, and they were absolute stars all weekend in the crossrail division receiving several top three placings in a division that is always one of the most competitive at the show. Liza just recently started leasing Eton and they have already made so much progress. We can't wait to see what they do next!
Carolene Haynes and her mount The Paddyman are not a new partnership, but this show was their first outing together in the Long Stirrup Division and Carolene’s first show moving up from crossrails. They were a major contender in every class that they entered, beginning with a win in the Wee Equitation Flat on Friday afternoon and continuing their winning ways with a championship on Saturday and reserve on Sunday in the Long Stirrup division as well as a 2nd place in the highly competitive $500 Triangle Wee Derby on Saturday night.
Horse show newcomer Max Heller rode the venerable, Carnival, a DEC owned mount in his first foray into the Long Stirrup Hunter Division this weekend and they were so great! Against many more experienced pairs, they showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season with top three finishes in many classes. It was so exciting to watch them shine and we can't wait to do it again!
Soren Clarke and Rhythm and Blues took on the Short Stirrup division for the first time ever after huge success last season in crossrails and they showed everyone why they were more than ready for this move up! They were so solid and well prepared each day and it showed with top three finishes in almost every short stirrup class in the division. When you watch them show, it is so evident that they are having a great time, and that is exactly what its all about. We can't wait to continue to watch them excel!
Ellie Driscoll and her partner at this show, Knock Your Sock Off, started their winning ways with many tricolors last year in the walk/trot divison. This year, Ellie has moved up to the Walk Trot Canter division and the wins just keep coming! Along with several class wins, the pair pulled off a reserve championship on saturday and followed it up with a co-championship ribbon on Sunday. We cannot wait to see Ellie continue to achieve excellence and are so proud of her!
