APS of Durham is an open admission shelter, and cares for more than 5,000 animals each year. The adoption package at APS is all-inclusive - your new pet will come home with a basic medical exam, spay/neuter (dogs, cats and rabbits), vaccines, a microchip (dogs and cats) and lots of love from our staff and volunteers. If you contact us via Facebook Messages, please follow up with a phone call if yo

u do not have a response within 24 hours. If you have questions about an animal that is available for adoption on our website, or if you have a timely or urgent matter to discuss, please contact the shelter during business hours at 919-560-0640.

🐶 Pet of the Week: Stuffing! 🐶

This sweet cuddle bug is an absolute favorite among staff and volunteers alike! 💕 Stuffing is just a girl who wants to be by your side, whether you're lounging on the couch, going for a walk, or just hanging out.

Now through February 22nd, select dogs (including Stuffing!) have an adoption fee of $25 as part of our Meet Your Match Special! 🎉

Hi my name is LONG BOI 🐾

I bet you can guess how I got my name! I’m a sweet, shy, affectionate low-rider who will lean in for scritches. I’m timid at first, but I warm up quick. I like to chase a ball, and I love to carry a toy to bed with me. The big world can be scary for a lil guy like me, so I like to stick close to my people.

I’ll need some basic training, confidence building, a cozy retreat, enrichment games, and lots of playtime! Let’s snuggle up together right now! I hope you come meet me 😍

APS has lost foster dogs, Slugger and Fastball. Last seen around DA Vinci Street in Durham. They are wearing purple and pink collars. Do not chase. Make note of the location if seen and let us know. If they come to you, squat down, turn to the side so they feel comfortable approaching. Please call with any info!

Say hello to PHINEAS 🐾

He is a friendly and curious guy who warms up to gentle affection. He be nervous and anxious in new situations, but he is sure someone can help him with that. He likes to chase a ball, eat treats, get gentle rubs, and be with people. He also need calming exercises, basic training, and opportunities to explore and learn.

Phineas has been in foster care where he completed heartworm treatment, and his foster reports that “Phineas has a lot of love to give! He has learned to sit by the door when we are getting ready to go out. Occasionally his front paws may lift off the floor due to excitement, but he can be redirected with a cue. He likes to roll around in the grass, and has demonstrated patience if I stop to talk with a neighbor. Phineas seems to enjoy car rides, after the initial excitement he settles on his own. He will sometimes ask for belly rubs before going into his crate. He has a healthy appetite, so I will feed him with a puzzle toy or simply twist a towel with his food for him to sniff and find his meal. This love bug is waiting to meet you!”

We’re back for another year of celebrating Valentine’s Day the catty way. Our cats have the PURRFECT way of showing your ex, biggest hater, or rude next-door neighbor just how much they mean to you.

For a donation of $10 or more, APS will write the first name of your choice on a litter box and let the cats take care of the rest. All donations from this event will go directly towards the care and support of our shelter animals.

Names will be written on the bottom of litter boxes and APS staff will document your contribution by uploading a picture of the litter box to our website and our social media pages on February 15th

Just like a breadstick makes a good meal even better, your life will be better with ME at your side! I’m a goofy, wiggly, excitable boy who loves to make new friends. Though I’m quite outgoing, touch is hard for me. Let’s stick to playtime before we get too hands-on. I love to play with a ball or toy and go exploring. I like gentle affection too, once I’m comfy. I’ll benefit from calming exercises, more training, plenty of exercise, and confidence building to ease my anxiety. Let’s go grab dinner!

📅Mark your calendars! Join us on Saturday, May 31st to Walk for the Animals!🐾

We will gather on Duke’s East Campus to celebrate our love of animals and our amazing community. You don't have to have a dog to participate! We have fun activities and vendors that will delight folks of all ages.

Proceeds raised for our Walk benefit more than 5,000 animals who rely on our organization’s services and care each year. Stay tuned for more info on how to register and help us reach our fundraising goal of $125,000!
