We have long loved the shire breed, and as we sadly noticed the two shire breeders local to us are getting very old and may not be around for a lot longer (we sincerely hope to be wrong here), we realized that just having a shire or two was not enough for us. So, we set out to buy a couple of fillies of good quality. we are now currently shopping for our own stallion (one who we believe will be a
good conformational match with a placid temperament to go with our 3 mares now. Over the next year and a half we will begin the process of becoming an educated and informed breeder of one or two quality shires a year. We will be leaning heavily on Clark Jenson over the next year to help us select a stallion quality stud c**t with the right breeding and build for what we hope to start doing. Our two fillies are still yearlings and they are our main focus on how we choose a stud. We are making property modifications (fence, shelter, etc) to ensure we are properly set up to keep and maintain a stud. What was once nothing more than a passing fancy for a breed, has become a commitment to better the breed for future generations. We will never have the scale of operation that so many very talented shire breeders do, but we really want to add one or two quality foals to the breed each year.
