PLEASE READ AND SHARE … This was just sent to me … I will look at Benadryl when I go to the Pharmacy…
Beware….
Reposted........Take Heed
Please read and share!
On Sunday night our dog Remi was bit or stung by something.. we sadly still don’t know what.. she was vomiting and had hives. We did like most pet owners and gave her Benadryl.. .sadly she quickly turned for the worst. 2:45 in the morning we rushed her to the emergency clinic in Mishawaka. When she arrived her pupils were nonresponsive and she was experiencing tremors. They quickly rushed her away and got her hooked up to IV and on meds. Her glucose level when we arrived was only 36 and her liver and kidneys were compromised.
By 6 AM she had stabilized, but was not out of the woods. At 7:30 we had to transport her to another vet clinic. She spent the day there and was able to come home that evening❤️❤️
She is now recovering well at home and we are so thankful we did not lose her..
For three days I’ve been trying to figure out what went wrong and why she reacted to the Benadryl the way she did.. with the help of Dr. Brown from Fedore Vet Clinic we realized the liquid gelcaps Benadryl that I gave her had ingredients that are toxic to dogs. You’ve all heard that people say artificial sweeteners are bad and are fatal for them, well the Benadryl allergy liquid gelcaps have this in them....
Please share so other owners are aware that the Benadryl allergy liquid gelcaps cannot be given to dogs!!!
Please share.
Xylitol
A Common Artificial Sweetener Is Poisoning Dogs. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in everything from toothpaste to peanut butter to sugar-free gum. And, it turns out, it's poison for dogs. The FDA just dropped a new warning that, while it's just fine for people, the sweetener has proven fatal for dogs
Found in gum, peanut butter, jams, pop AND Benadryl Gel Caps!!
It's killing dogs but there is no warnings on labels.
It's up to the dog community to spread the word.

Crate training is a great idea for dog owners of all ages. Crates are useful tools for puppies, safe havens for senior dogs, and lifesavers for emergencies.

It’s that time of year when more pets escape their yards and homes because of their flight reaction to Fireworks. Enjoy the Fireworks but protect your pets.

Great info!!

THE INVISIBLE SLIMY MONSTER IN THE WATER BOWL

Ever rub your fingers on the inside of your pet's water bowl and you feel a slippery slime of sorts? Well that invisible goo is called Biofilm.

Biofilm is a collection of organic and inorganic, living and dead materials collected on a surface. It is made up of many different types of bacteria bound together in a thick substance that acts as a glue to both hold the bacteria together and adhere it to a surface.

Biofilm can often be good bacteria but there is also the bad!

Biofilms provide a safe haven for organisms like Listeria, E. coli and legionella where they can reproduce to levels where contamination of products passing through that water becomes inevitable.

Bad Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial infections in the body such as urinary tract infections, middle-ear infections and bladder infections.

Many pet parents are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl over and over without a wash and this becomes a wonderful environment for biofilm to soak around in.

How to reduce Biofilm:

Remember to clean your pet’s water bowl at least once a week if you can and change water daily.

For pet daycares where a host of different bacteria float around in water bowls, wash daily!

For best results, run your water bowls through a hot cycle in the dishwasher with an eco friendly, non-toxic soap to really clean out the biofilm!

Rodney Habib Pet Health Site

"An educated, informed and well-researched community of pet owners can only put more pressure on the pet food industry to be better! When pet owners know better, they will only do better!"

(P.S. - I am going to get lambasted over the "wash once a week at least" concept. However, after a wonderful discussion with a well known pro-active veterinarian/scientist, when she studied the bacteria looming in pets' water bowls she found if you have a healthy beast, biofilm can actually be full of wonderful, healthy bacteria. It's like playing in the mud as kids and having good bacteria all over you! So sometimes cleaning regularly can wash all the good stuff away. ;) )

Update: Destiny has been found and is doing well!

Lost Wags Dog! Mendota Heights!

Whether we open on the 11th, or if the Shelter in Place order gets extended, we know the pups are going to be hurtin' for a groom. We want to do our best to avoid shaving matted pups when we get back, so in the meantime, here is a good diagram to follow, to keep those long, pretty locks. 🐾

04/03/2020

Quarantine is harder to do when the weather won't even let you play in the yard! How are all of you and the furry beasts dealing through the lockdown!? 🔐🌧

03/28/2020

Well! That's it, everybody. We are officially on hiatus for two weeks. We are blown away by how amazing you have all been these past couple weeks (and all the times before that). The support, the generosity, and the absolute heartwarming feels you have given us are beyond appreciated. We're sad to take a break from it, but looking forward to jumping back into the game as soon as we're allowed. In the meantime, everybody stay safe, and give your pups lots of love from us 🐾💕

See you on April 11th! ❤

03/25/2020

We stayed open for as long as allowed, but Governor Walz has issued a Shelter In Place, beginning Friday the 27th 11:59pm to April 10th. We will be open for full bath and groom appointments as usual from today through Friday, but have suspended all walk-in services until further notice. We will keep you updated as things progress, but in the meantime, send lots of pics of your new quarantine fur-mates so we don't go through withdrawls 😣🐾

03/23/2020

For the sake of yours and your dogs sanity, try to take a moment to grasp onto a little bit of normalcy in this confusing and ever-changing time. Take the proper precautions, but try to get your pups out on a walk, to burn off their energy and your cabin fever! 🏃‍♀️
