Who we are and where we came from...

The Roer family, channeling backgrounds in both Arizona ranching and Zoological endeavors, have identified the dry, temperate region of Eagar-Springerville, Arizona as the ideal placement for a new 65-acre wildlife conservation ranch. R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch will be open to the public on September 1st.

Focusing on breeding, conservation, and education, the park will offer an animal Safari and up-close-and-personal encounters in unique small group tours. The husband and wife team of Vanessa and Jacob Roer feel like they can provide the ability to blend both backgrounds — their Arizona western roots, and animal conservation. Offering encounters with roaming hoofstock, avian species, primates, and more, the R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch will serve to educate local students and curious travelers on the importance of animal conservation, and the wonders of the animals that dwell on the premises.

The ranch will be home to birds, mammals and reptiles originating from all over the world that are best suited to the white mountains environment. Species such as scimitar horned oryx, clouded leopard, lowland anoa and ring tail lemur showcase the Roer’s attention to protection of endangered animals. Friendly barnyard animals and animal ambassadors offer valuable knowledge and meaningful animal connections to visitors through hands-on interaction.

Bred from the family’s passion for agriculture and education, the Roers hope that the boutique style of “zoo” featuring small intimate groups is well received by visitors. When asked why they chose to be a facility featuring by-appointment only tours, Vanessa Roer explained, “We are passionate about forging relationships with our guests and sharing valuable information about our animal residents. In a regular open-to-the-public setting it is extremely difficult to tell all visitors about each animal or species and why they are important or special.” Jacob Roer added, “Elbow to elbow and standing in lines doesn’t make for a relaxing and enjoyable outing -where one’s mind is focused on the natural beauty. However there is a cost to this model - it is labor intensive and we are limited in the number of admissions that we can allow per day - and thus our admissions prices reflect this boutique experience.”
