Today I did some candling on Mama / Opals clutch!

Opal is a 4 year old Muscovy Duck, she is very used to being handled by humans as she is not just a Mama but also one of the Ducks I show at the Washington County Fair.

Her babies will be the ones in the duckling playground area this year!

These ducklings have been developing very nicely and I'm very excited as this is my first time only breeding the black ones.

Opal has a beautiful clutch of 7 babies.

I purposely am not hatching alot as we already have 35 Ducks!

I'm so excited to see how these babies come out!

Another work filled day on the homestead as we prepare the Butcher pen for some new arrivals!

With some parental guidance I made wooden boxes, along with cutting some fencing, so we could make a sturdy foundation for the little shelter our new critters will be using as protection from the sun during the summer time, but they will be going to a very cold place come winter (too far? Nah πŸ˜‚).

Our new critters will be here in a few week's & I'm very excited!

We are incredibly grateful that our garden produces the amount it does.... however it is ALOT.

But hey, atleast the birds can have a good snack πŸ˜‚!

We ONLY eat duck eggs, here's why!

1. Protein Haven
A chicken egg has 6.4 grams of protein, while a Duck has 17.9. Meaning a single duck egg has 11.4 more grams of protein than a chicken egg 🀯

2. Duck Eggs are higher albuim & have fatter yolks, making them delicious and awesome to bake with πŸͺπŸ₯§πŸ§πŸŽ‚πŸ˜‹.

3. Because of the different protein profiles, if your mildly allergic to chicken eggs then you might actually be able to still enjoy eggs if they're duck 🍳.

4. The only way to really get duck eggs, as they are not in mass production, if from your local homesteader. Supporting small farms AND getting better food? Sign me up πŸ˜†!

5. Duck eggs have higher akaline in them, meaning they can support your digestive system!?!?!? Who knew of such a thing 😲!

Today was a productive day on the Homestead!

Sky ,our great protector, caught a mole and deterred other critters of even THINKING of entering our garden.

I preened our pepper plants, as to make them really bloom this season πŸ«‘

Our broccoli got a little messed up with the super windy storm yesterday, however a little love & care will fix them up (and by that I mean dirt) πŸ₯¦

The tomatoes are blooming, the wind did get to them a little bit, but they're in better condition than the broccoli LOL πŸ…

The cucumbers are going CRAZY and I have a feeling they will give us LOTS this season πŸ₯’

The ducks & Cucumber reaped the benefits of our weeding efforts, did you know that one of the main parts of a Muscovy Ducks diet is.... grass?
