Is your puppy getting enough sleep? Most owners are t aware their puppy needs a substantial amount of sleep for mood regulation as well as proper brain development. Because dogs are dogs we don’t always remember they need us to in a way parent them and not all dogs- puppies especially know how to regulate them selves and give themselves the sleep that they need. Which is where crate training and tethering become a HUGE HELP. Most owners first response is to work the dog more but it’s causing a reverse effect and increasing the puppies mouthing and hyper activity. There are so many recommendations on how a puppies day should look. My preference on a puppy schedule is, if you can’t watch them/work them, crate or tether them. This is the best way to ensure your puppy is getting the rest they need.

Meet Copper! This handsome guy gets plenty of physical exercise playing with his house mate but is extremely destructive and dogs up his owners yard. He also has a really hard time being crated when his family is home. Copper is currently 9 months old and a healer/blue tick hound mix. Can you guess what Copper is missing that may be causing these behaviors?

HAPPY MONDAY! Here to remind you that to see results in your dogs training you must be consistent. Even if it’s just 5 minutes everyday, that’s better then one hour every 1-2 weeks. Additionally having everyone in your house hold take the time to work with the dog to ensure the dogs skills are consistent with each handler. Make sure everyone in the home is on the same page and using the same methods or management.

Millie is popping in to remind you of our super fun packwalk coming up this Saturday! Also to keep your pups cool in this heat!
Our favorite ways to keep cool are:
☀️Doggy pool
☀️Early morning/evening walks
☀️Booties & cooling vests if you’re going to brave a mid day walk
☀️Cooling pads to chill on outside- put them in the fridge/freezer for extra cooling abilities
☀️Put up a shade tarp/canopy in your yard to give your dog a cool spot to hangout
☀️Frozen Kings or ice cubes
☀️ALWAYS give your dog access to water

Welcome Hershey the Shiba Inu mix! This cutie is here for our five day board and train to get socialized, get on a solid schedule, and learn the basics.

Shibas are a Japanese breed of dog bred for hunting. These dogs have very suave that can be compared similarly to a fox. They’re very bold and confident dogs that I would say require a solid amount of socialization and structure to set them up for success. I also recommend giving these dogs a job similar to the one they were bred for (hunting) sports I’d reccomend for this breed would be; barn hunting, scent work, fast cat races, & dock diving or fetch!

Got to see Max for a follow up session today! I love seeing my clients doing this good!
Max has recently entered his final fear phase making little things much more intense then they were before. This phase generally lasts from 8-14 months. Since entering this phase Max has gotten a little more vocal towards the things that scare him. Today we discussed the importance of confidence building and creating clear communication through the leash, this is going to help his owner provide him guidance without confirming his fears.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY RIGHT HAND WOMAN! This girl is so patient and so determined when working with the dogs. She puts so much work into her own dog and it shows! GWPs are a handful and she makes it look easy! I’m so grateful to have Swayzee as my assistant trainer, there’s no way we could’ve gotten this far with out her! Happy Birthday Swayz!

Keeping Your Pets Safe During a Solar Eclipse

Keep Them Indoors: To protect your pets' eyes from harmful solar radiation, keep them indoors during the eclipse. This reduces the risk of eye damage or discomfort.

Provide a Safe Space: Create a comfortable and secure environment indoors for your pets to retreat to during the eclipse. This could be a quiet room with their favorite toys and bedding.

Close Curtains or Blinds: If you're staying indoors with your pets during the eclipse, close curtains or blinds to minimize their exposure to the bright sunlight.

Keep Them Calm: Some pets may become anxious or stressed during unusual events like a solar eclipse. Comfort them with soothing words, treats, or calming aids recommended by your veterinarian.

Maintain Routine: Stick to your pets' regular routine as much as possible before, during, and after the eclipse. This helps them feel safe and secure amidst the changes in their environment.

Be Aware of Changes in Behavior: Monitor your pets for any signs of distress or unusual behavior during the eclipse. If they appear anxious or exhibit symptoms of discomfort, consult with your veterinarian for guidance.

After the Eclipse: Once the eclipse has passed and it's safe to go outside again, accompany your pets and keep them on a leash or in a secure enclosure. This prevents them from inadvertently looking at the sun or becoming disoriented.

By following these safety tips, you can ensure that your furry friends stay safe and comfortable during a solar eclipse.

Owners, once you truly get that nothing changes with your dog until you change, you’ll be prepared for reality. Whether that be transforming yourself and your dog, or settling for the status quo with both of you—at least you will know precisely where you stand and also precisely what to expect.

Trainers, once you truly get that nothing you can do with a dog will actually change the dog unless its owners change, you’ll also be prepared for reality. Whether that be letting go of unrealistic expectations (and the frustration/resentment that goes with) for the undetermined, or falsely feeling like Superman/Superwoman because of what you’re capable of achieving with the dog—at least you’ll know precisely where you stand and what to expect.

If both owners and trainers agree to work within the framework of reality and the obviously observable dynamics between owner and dog—or environment and dog—then both parties can approach this dog training enterprise with clarity and healthy expectations. Which would save much disappointment, resentment, and heartache on both sides.

The upshot? Owners, unless you’re truly prepared to change whatever is required to change your dog, it’s best that you save your time, money, and hopes. Trainers, unless your owners are truly prepared to change whatever is required to change their dog (this is your job to suss out), then please save them their time, money, and hopes—and on the way you’ll save your well-being and avoid much of the emotional burnout that derails so many.
