I have been told by many of you that times are tough and sharing to a fundraiser is difficult. We do understand the struggles of the world we currently live in, its so tough for so many!!!!

The donation pool is getting smaller, and the resources to tend to 350+ critters is getting tougher! So we thought if instead of asking for large donations maybe folks can share a smaller amount.

So each Tuesday will be TWO DOLLAR TUESDAY. We are hoping that you kind folks could help with a couple bucks.

In a group with each person donating just two dollars great things can be accomplished!!!

12 folks donating will buy a bag of pigeon feed!
8 folks donating will buy a bag of chicken pellet feed
8 folks donating will buy food for Albin and Clyde for a week
6 folks donating will keep Norman in hay for a week

So you can see that just a few bucks combined can do amazing things!

If you can please help us keep these critters fed! If not could you please share our two dollar Tuesday

THANK YOU SO MUCH MY FRIENDS!!!!!

As baby chick season approaches and the price of eggs keep rising, I’m sure a lot of people are tempted to raise chickens themselves. Before people flock (no pun intended 🤣) to their local farm store and start buying all the baby chicks please consider the following 10 fun facts….

1. Most hens do not start laying eggs until 18-22 weeks of age (that’s about 5 months give or take)

2. For the first few weeks of their lives baby chickens need to be kept at a temperature of around 95 degrees Fahrenheit

3. Chicks need to eat…SURPRISE! And like the price of everything else chicken feed has went up. A 50lb bag of layer is over $20.

4. Chickens molt…what does that mean? Your chicken will become ugly and stop laying eggs for a period of time.

5. Chickens don’t lay as many eggs in the winter months.

6. The average lifespan of a chicken is 5-10 years.

7. Predators such as foxes, coyotes, neighbor’s dogs and even raccoons will hunt your chickens.

8. Chickens will p**p EVERYWHERE and I mean everywhere so be prepared to clean their pen often or if they are free range be sure to check your step or look before you sit.

9. Chickens love to dig holes and destroy bedding around flowers in the yard, good luck keeping them from doing so.

10. Chickens can get medical issues just like any other animal.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone from raising their own food in fact I think it’s great. However chickens are animals, animals that require attention and proper care.

So while I get that you don’t want to spend $7 on a dozen eggs double think your decision before you go gung ho on being a chicken farmer. Just do your research, it’s not like getting a doll!🤦🏼‍♀️

Sincerely,
A fellow chicken owner

Meet Lucy and Piper these sisters were the first two animals that came to the sanctuary after we purchased the property August 15 2020

These two cute sisters came from a private breeder that got way over her head! She had bred way too many piglets to feed and that she could find homes for! These two were on their way to the butcher block before we heard about them.

My daughter found out about them and she went and picked them up.

When the two got here we put them in a pen and quickly learned that pigs especially baby ones are escape artist!!! They got out during a summer rain and to say we were covered in mud when we had finally caught them is an understatement!

These two sisters will always have a home here and a huge place in my heart!

We are trying something new with our posts! Each Monday we will do a spotlight on one of our animal residents. It’ll be fun and show you all a little more of the magic that is the sanctuary! If it’s been a while or you have never visited we invite you to come and experience the sanctuary!

Shout out post!!!

HD Fowler company and Granite Peak Excavating both came in a blizzard to help us with two pressing concerns at the Friends In Need Animal Sanctuary

1- The yaks needed to be moved! Ever since I bought the sanctuary in 2020 I was concerned about them having so much accessible fence line. I really enjoy having visitors come and see the yaks but I was always concerned about human safety. The yaks had a habit of ramming the fence! Now they have lots more area , but less accessible fence line.
2- We had two of our yard hydrants fail both were 6’ down! We tried digging up one but that’s a tough go with a shovel and a pick! Granite Peak Excavating was able to get both of them replaced!

To say I’m thankful is an understatement!!! For five years I have been worried about the yaks! Having water to the back animals again will make chores so much easier!

Thank so much to all that helped! Huge thank you to Richard Smith for all your work to get the back area prepped and ready for the furry beasts!

Very yaky day today at the Friends In Need Animal Sanctuary!!! These big guys were moved to their new enclosure today! If you have visited before you’ll know that these yaks are not nearly as cuddly as they look! They are as nice as a wet cat to put it nicely, and in the PC language we are required to use here on Facebook.

Anyway no humans were harmed in this transfer! Hee hee

The yaks now have twice the space and tons of weeds to mow down!

Meet David.
He's not just the owner of Friends In Need Animal Sanctuary, he's a true champion for animals.
And pigeons?
They hold a special place in his heart. ❤️

David believes these often overlooked birds are incredibly intelligent, social, and deserving of our love and respect.

But sadly, many pigeons face hardship and struggle to survive on their own.
That's where YOU come in!

For just $80 a year, you can sponsor a pigeon and provide them with nutritious food and a safe haven.
In return you will receive a 12 inch banner with your business on their home.
Or, for $200 a year, you can give a whole variety of pigeons the complete care they need to thrive.
Plus, we'll feature your business with a banner and on our website and social media as a thank you!

Join David in his mission to give these gentle creatures the life they deserve.
Every dollar makes a difference.

Meet Tonka, A magnificent Yak whose story is unique and beautiful in the end!
- Baby picture with his Mom - 2011
- First picture Tonka now!

He was born here at Friends In Need Animal Sanctuary, but his roots trace back to a moment of compassion that changed the course of his life and the lives of others.

Many years ago, three yaks faced a grim fate. 💔
Their lives were reduced to a “trophy hunt” advertised by someone offering hunts on a mere 20-acre plot.
To one observer, it wasn’t a hunt, it was a harvest…
Their lives were being stripped of dignity..
Their story seemed destiny to end in tragedy.

But kindness found a way.
The former owner of this property couldn’t stand by.
A fundraiser was organized, and the yaks were rescued, sparing them from their planned end.
Today, Tonka and his herd stand as a testament to what can happen when empathy triumphs over indifference.

These yaks, descended from the three who were saved, now live a peaceful life surrounded by care. ❤️
They graze happily on hay, with bananas as their favorite treat a sweet reminder of the second chance they were given. 🍌

Tonka’s story isn’t just about survival it’s about the power of stepping in and making a difference. It’s a reminder that every life has value, and sometimes, all it takes is one act of courage to rewrite a story. 🐃

You can sponsor Tonka, Tatto, or Treasure for the year for just $2,500 each, this includes all the feed and animal care that they need! 🫶🏼

Your sponsorship includes
A promotional banner featuring your company name, logo, and links to your business on our website and social media.
Business, animal spotlights throughout the year, highlighting these remarkable yaks and the impact of your generosity.

Your support helps provide their care and shares their incredible story, a tale of resilience, compassion, and second chances. Together, we can continue to honor their legacy and inspire others to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
