Meet Lucy. Lucy is a 4.5 year old golden retriever who weighs about 60 lbs. Lucy came to us from a commercial breeder. When Lucy came to us, she had scabs on her head and neck, and her tail had been cut and was missing hair and skin. We are not sure exactly what happened to Lucy but the injuries were quite fresh and she did need significant medical care including amputation of her tail. Lucy now has a little nub as a tail that she wags when she's happy. Lucy is a sweetheart, but she is also very scared and will require patience. She has shown absolutely no aggression toward anyone. Lucy showed no interest in other dogs she was around or a toddler who attempted to interact with her. Lucy only had one accident in the house. It will be ideal to have a fenced-in yard so Lucy can have a little privacy. Currently, Lucy will only go outside if she is carried outside and will only go potty with no one around or looking at her. For the first few weeks, Lucy needed to be carried back into the house, but with lots of encouragement, Lucy began walking back into the house on her own. Lucy has not been for a walk on a leash yet as she is still too scared. When left alone, Lucy has slowly worked up the courage to explore her surroundings. She will need a calm and patient home to help her learn to be a normal dog. Lucy does make progress every day.
Lucy is now spayed, up to date with vaccines, and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention.
