We’d like to announce and introduce the newest member of our training staff, Weldon Gardner. Weldon may be new to Montana Training and Kennels, but he is no stranger to our methodology and approach.
Weldon and Emmet met in 2018 when they both had other day jobs and had dogs training with Tom Woods (NBHA Hall of Fame) in Oklahoma. They quickly became training partners, hunting buddies and friends.
Like Emmet, Weldon is a wild bird hunter at heart, and has harvested with his dogs 12 different upland species across 10 different states. Also like Emmet, Weldon believes that the ability, skills and drive needed for a dog to successfully manage wild birds also gives that dog the tools and style needed to be competitive in field trials. Weldon and his dogs have successfully trialed in AKC, NBHA and AF stakes in Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas,Texas and Oklahoma.
Please help us welcome Weldon, his wife Lucinda and daughter Emory to the MTK family.

Jewel had a great season and lots of adventures. Between field trials and hunting wild birds we covered some ground: Sage Grouse, Sharptails, Blue and Spruce Grouse, Huns and Pheasant in Montana… Bobwhites in Oklahoma… Chukar and Valley Quail in Nevada… Scaled, Gambel’s and Mearn’s Quail in Arizona… Mountain Quail in California… Watch to the end to see her latest bird work now that she’s back home working pen-raised birds. 🧡🧡🧡

MTK pointing dogs had a great weekend at the Montana Brittany Club / North Dakota Pointing Dog Club AKC Double Double Hunt Test this weekend. Double double means dogs have 4 opportunities to run and are able earn a hunt test title in a single weekend. The dogs scored lots of orange ribbons and lots of titles this weekend!
- Ranger the black GSP and owner/handler Dick Martinsen earned 3 passing scores and a new Master Hunter title!
- Stetson the English Setter and owner/handler Anastasia Swarthout earned 2 Master Hunter passes
- Trillium the Brittany, owned by Todd Breitenfeldt and handled by Emmet earned 4 Junior Hunter passes and a new Junior Hunter title! After winning 2nd Place Open Puppy and 4th Place Open Derby at the Friday field trial!
- Vee the GSP, owned by Nancy Lane and handled by Emmet earned 3 passing scores towards her Junior Hunter title. One more to go!
- Bruno the Vizsla earned 4 Junior Hunter passes and a new Junior Hunter title! After winning 1st Place Open Puppy at the Friday field trial!
- Remi the GWP earned 4 Junior Hunter passes and a new Junior Hunter title!
- DeeDee the Brittany earned 4 Junior Hunter passes and a new Junior Hunter title!
- Duke the Brittany earned 4 Junior Hunter passes and a new Junior Hunter title!
