Bailey Greenhouse and Urban Farm is hiring a greenhouse manager for the spring and summer! We can offer flexible hours and great hands-on experience. This is a perfect position for students interested in sustainable food systems, small organic farming, or food education. Applicants do not need previous greenhouse or farm experience to be eligible. Farmstand is back! Next Wednesday you can buy farm fresh produce right outside Bailey Greenhouse. We’ll be open from 3-4:30pm outside Bailey Hall off of South Brody Rd, and we’ll be back every Wednesday until October 20th. Can’t wait to see you!

Today we say goodbye to one of our student farm managers, Sarah Hubbard. Sarah has worked for BGUF since last spring through this summer. Her favorite part of BGUF was harvesting in the morning sunshine. Thanks for your hard work and an amazing summer, Sarah!

Hello! BGUF is excited to be back at the farmstand tomorrow for the LAST TIME this summer. We’re picking back up on September 8th, so get the last of our summer produce while you can! We’ll be at the drop-off area of the MSU Recycling Center from 12pm-4pm. This week you can get fresh kohlrabi, baby beets, basil, hot peppers, sweet peppers, tomatoes, garlic, eggplant, summer squash, and fresh-cut flowers. See you then and don’t forget your reusable bag!

Hello August! Our schedule for this month is a bit different. You can catch us at the farmstand on Wednesday this week (8/4) and next week (8/11). We’re taking a brief break at the end of August, so we won’t be at the farmstand on the 18th or the 25th. We’ll let you know what our fall schedule is soon!
It’s tomato week at the farmstand! We’ll have lots of delicious cherry tomatoes ready for Wednesday night’s dinner. If you’re craving a delicious caprese treat, you can also pick up some fresh basil. We’re also bringing hot peppers, squash, edible flowers, sweet peppers, garlic, baby beets, and kohlrabi. And a treat for your household gardener: compost! We’ll be at the drop-off area at the MSU Recycling Center from 12pm-4pm. We’ll see you tomorrow!

It’s potato week! Yesterday, BGUF farmer Maezie harvested some stellar taters. They’re ready for your kitchen or grill and the rest of the plant is ready for our compost piles!

We’ll also have hot peppers (medium spice), basil, baby beets, green beans, garlic, and more. We’ll also be joined by Land Grant Goods, so we’ll see you then.

BGUF farmers Sarah and Maezie have been hard at work on our farm fresh compost! As per our greenhouse golden rule, maintaining healthy soil is a major pillar of organic farming.
Compost is more than just dirt; it feeds nutrients to the plants that feed you! By composting we are taking a stance that says, ‘I understand the cycles in nature and that nothing is wasted.’
We do our best to close the food loop at the farm and among Land Grant Goods by collecting food scraps and building on our three piles. After around three days of cooking and getting up to around 120 degrees Fahrenheit, Sarah and Maezie step in, flip the piles, provide water and air, and allow them to heat up again (microorganisms working their magic). Participating in this grand cycle of life and decay that feeds the earth.

Happy Tuesday! Stop by BGUF’s summer farmstand tomorrow from 12pm-5pm for farm fresh produce. We’re very excited to bring you our beautiful red peppers! They’re medium heat and perfect for adding a little kick to your meal. We’ll also be bringing back your grill’s favorite: our delicious summer squash! Finally, you can also pick up some garlic, green beans, basil, and edible flowers. Our stand is located at the MSU Recycling Center (at the Drop-off area), and we’ll also be once again joined by Land Grant Goods. See you then!

We will have yellow summer squash (great for grilling), green beans, salad mix, cut flowers, basil, and garlic (perfect for pesto). We’ll also be joined by Land Grant Goods and MSU Bakers. Focus your Friday on resilient food systems! Visit the ‘Seeds of Resistance’ exhibit at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at MSU. End your visit at the Bailey Greenhouse and Urban Farm (BGUF) farmstand (right outside museum doors) to explore farm produce from a truly ecological, on-campus farm. BGUF will be featuring fresh summer produce, build-your-own bouquet, and Land Grant Goods products (including a Sunburn Special gift package!)
This dynamic duo will be happening on Friday (7/9) 12:00-5:00. This is one of the final weekends of the exhibit, so visit soon!

Happy Tuesday! BGUF is excited to be back at the farmstand this Wednesday from 12pm-5:30pm at the Drop-Off Center of the MSU Recycling Center. This week we will have fresh spinach, radishes, cilantro, basil, garlic scapes, and arugula. We’ll also be featuring basil and marigold transplants ready for your herb garden or patio! Marigolds are also pollinator favorites. Land Grant Goods and MSU Baker’s will be joining us again too. We can’t wait to see you there!

Happy June 1st! BGUF is getting ready for another wonderful Farm Stand, tomorrow from 12pm to 5:30pm at the Drop-off Center of the MSU Recycling Center. BGUF will be bringing delicious and fresh broccoli, garlic scapes, green onions, and cilantro. We will also have marigold and pepper transplants. This week we will be joined again by Land Grant Goods, but we won't see MSU Bakers again until June 9th. Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

BGUF will be bringing some gorgeous and well-rooted strawberry plants perfect for your garden-- 3 for $5 or 10 for $10. New this week is BROCCOLINI, perfect for some delicious stir-fry! For an encore performance... asparagus and rhubarb. Don't forget, for $20 you can take home a beautiful Aloe Plant!
