Baby parrotlets 💙💚🥰 we are Handfeeding 4. All 4 are green and males.
These teeny tiny parrots are so small and cute! They remind me of hummingbirds.
If you want a parrot but not the noise or destruction you should research these little gems! 🦜🦜
***they have all the attitude of big parrots and I do not recommend for children under 12.***

We have parrotlets Handfeeding. 🦜😍 I believe I have 3 green and not sure what the 4th baby is. Parrotlets are small VERY ‘big parrot’ like parrots. They are the smallest of parrots. I think they make great companions but because they are *big* parrots in every way but size I do not recommend them for children under 12. ☺️

I’ve had a few messages in the last month on birds not quite acting like themselves. Here’s some quick springtime info. I recommend researching further on parrots & hormones. ☺️

Springtime can bring about hormonal changes in sexually mature parrots, also known as "nesting" or "spring fever" behavior. These changes are caused by natural hormone surges and can lead to undesirable behaviors. Some behaviors that may occur during this time include:
* Excessive screaming and biting
* Being overly affectionate
* Flat backing
* Strutting
* Nest-making
* Feather picking
* Regurgitation of food
* Bluffing
* Territoriality
For example, mature females may start looking for materials to build a nest or pluck their own feathers. Spring can also be breeding season for some parrots, which may lead to unprovoked aggression or even eggs appearing in the cage.

To help redirect some of these behaviors, you can try changing out some of your parrot's toys with new ones that can be destroyed.

Things you can do to help
* It may be frustrating as a parrot owner, but you can't eliminate this behavior, no matter you do. There are certain things help get through this awkward and sometimes uncomfortable period:
* Mark on your calendar when this period of nesting behavior begins and ends. This will help you be better prepared to handle this behavior next year before it begins.
* If your parrot becomes aggressive towards other humans, then do everyone a favor and leave the bird in its cage when other people are around, and never leave it out unsupervised (which you are not supposed to do anyway).
* Do not encourage sexual behaviors, because that only leads to confusion and frustration for the parrot. Avoid doing things like petting the bird's back, wings or tail feathers. Restrict your petting to the bird's head so you don't further stimulate him.
* If your parrot becomes obsessed with a particular object or toy, remove it from the bird's area.
* If the bird's wings are not clipped, it might be a good idea to do it now, as you can always let the wings regrow when the bird settles down. Since there is often a direct correlation between full flight and increased aggression, it makes sense to remove this additional problem when the parrot is already overwhelmed with hormones.

Let’s also keep in mind that parrots are not domesticated. They are raised domestically and imprinted on with handfeeding but that does not make them domesticated. There are people who argue this which amazes me 🙄. If you look at how long it took to get our dogs domesticated and then look at how long we’ve been breeding parrots in captivity it’s actually not that hard to figure out. But there’s people who argue everything. That being said, all their natural instinct is very much present. So we shouldn’t take it personally (yes easier said than done) and we should do are best to help them through it. Kinda agreed to that when we decided to share our home with a parrot. I also think birds are very long lived so they go through changes. I’ve had/have parrots that didn’t like to be loved on and now that they are past age 5-7 they readily accept loving and petting. Lots of parrots might go through a few years of not loving a ton of handling and then suddenly they are all for it. Thats perfectly normal.
Things that can help(not stop)
* Control light Reduce the amount of sunlight and bright artificial light your bird is exposed to. You can also try covering your bird's cage with a blanket for 14–16 hours a night for 6–8 weeks to create an artificial nighttime.
* Increase sleep Parrots usually need about 12 hours of sleep, but you can try increasing this to 13–14 hours during hormonal periods. Make sure your bird has a dark, quiet place to sleep.
* Improve diet An inadequate diet can disrupt your bird's hormonal system. Make sure their food isn't mushy or warm, and consider providing supplements.
* Provide enrichment Training and enrichment can help your bird think of something else while they're feeling hormonal.
* Keep interactions calm Observe your bird and keep interactions calm.
