Miles vetting is complete and here's what we learned from our trusted vet:

He is 7-8 months old and most likely a Beagle mix. At 29 pounds he probably won't get much bigger. He hasn't gained any weight since being here and he has a short build.

He has been neutered, vaccinated, HW/Lyme tested, microchipped. Reminder that he is deaf and will bark and howl for about a minute or two if left alone however he is getting better. He is full of puppy energy so will need an owner who is home alot and has plenty of patience for a puppy. Great with our other dogs and cat. Miles has had a pre-surgical bath so he smells pretty at the vet tomorrow. He has done the zoomies all day and had his first bite of ham. Playing with his toys he got so tired he zonked out on me. He is for sure a joy to have around. Miles is 6 to 8 months old, deaf and all puppy! He loves and plays hard.

Change in plans for Miles. His vetting will be complete and he will be ready for adoption on Tuesday. I will tell you he is now a very happy puppy who gets into everything and he is a chewer! I'm very happy for him that he has come this far but some potential adopters may not be ready for his puppy attitude! He will require a visible fenced yard and owners who are home alot since he does struggle with separation anxiety. He will cry and howl when left alone. We now know he is good with our cat but I'm sure it will depend on the cats personality. Miles is very sociable and friendly but will bark when there is a stranger approaching your house. We are still looking for the right home for Jessie. See that look in her eyes? She is very unhappy. She doesn't like other dogs coming into rescue. Jessie needs to be in a home where she is the only Princess. She doesn't like to share her family. She does wonderful with the dogs that were here before her, but not so well with new ones coming in as it takes attention away from her. Jessie is fearful of some men but just barks at them alot, not at all aggressive. She does great with my husband and son but it took them months to get to that point with her. We've had alot of interest in this baby doll Miles. Here is what you need to know about him:

His stray hold will be up on Monday of next week. His vetting happens next Tuesday and Thursday.

He will need a visible fenced yard. He is deaf so if he were to get off of a leash it would be very difficult to catch him

He has separation anxiety. He will need owners that are home most of the time. Right now if we leave a room without him, He cries and howls for about 2 minutes. I'm hoping once he is in a home and as he gets older along with becoming more secure that will change but no guarantees.

He is a baby. He loves to be held and fussed over. But he also needs reassurance that he is loved and that he won't be abandoned.

He is good boy! Housebroken, treat motivated, social and fun! Loves his people!

I'm learning how to speak to him with my hands since he can't hear me. That is working well

He gets along well with other dogs but doesn't need another dog to make him happy. He will need owners who are COMMITTED to him for his lifetime. Being abandoned again would be horrible for him emotionally

Can you foster him? Yes but paperwork would have to be signed agreeing that he is on stray hold and he is not your dog until stray hold is up.

Apparently it's National Dump your Dog week. 5 just in my small community in the last 24 hours. This is overwhelming for rescues. The shelter is most likely full. We are all tired and broke. Please stop dumping your dogs. It is not okay

I know of someone trying to place a 10 year old Dalmation female and a 10 week old Dalamation/Aussie mix puppy. I feel so badly for the mom dog being placed at this time in her life. Can anyone help?

Update: She is being rehomed because she kills chickens. So if you have chickens it won't work

Miles slept like the baby he is last night. Not a peep out of him! No accidents. He wasn't at all restless. Just a very happy and safe puppy. At this point he has given me zero reasons to crate him which we only do if it's needed for house breaking. In almost 24 hours I can see he is starting to feel a little more secure.
