GOODBOY is almost here! Join us tomorrow, November 2nd, at The Savoy theater for this very special movie that showcases the love we share with our pets. ❤ https://centralvermonthumane.org/goodboy/
Filmmaker, Ashley Mosher, flew in all the way from Colorado to be a part of this event so she could personally share her experience of navigating through the cancer diagnosis of her beloved dog Kenya, and potentially help others who have had or may soon be facing similar circumstances.
First we will screen her powerful film and then have a panel of grief and loss experts available to answer any questions. Each panelist was carefully chosen based on their background to cover all areas of grieving, not just pets.
One of the goals of this event is to create a supportive environment for pet parents, or anyone going through the loss of a family member, to feel comfortable asking difficult questions. To have others to lean on and to learn about the many resources available right here in Vermont, when help is needed.
While we will have tickets at the door, we would really appreciate it if people could buy their tickets ahead of time to eliminate long lines since we (CVHS) will be processing tickets, not the theater, and our technology is slow!

Calling all husky people! We know they are like potato chips, and most people can't have just one........BUT there must be someone out there who thinks one is the perfect number! (Elfie cannot live with other animals).
Elfie is silly, sassy, spunky, and just plain fun! Look how much she enjoys learning new things with our staff, and even gives kisses in the middle of it! 🤣
Please share Elfie with all your friends, and help us shine a spotlight on this girl. You could be the reason she gets into a new home! ❤
Photos of Elfie, and her profile, can be found on our website, here:https://centralvermonthumane.org/adopt/detail/?id=56266776-Elfie
If you have husky experience, and after reading her profile you think you’d be a good match for this girl, email us at [email protected] or call 802-476-3811, and we’d be happy to talk with you about her!
Adoptable Bamm-Bamm REALLY loves to nap outside, even when it’s 82 degrees out. So while he’s celebrating his Independence Day at a staff member’s home, he’s enjoying a food puzzle for enrichment, filled with a frozen concoction of fat free yogurt, smushed ripe bananas, a dab of peanut butter, and a dab of canned dog food. Last night he got some of his kibble in this puzzle, and he had so much fun throwing it in the air to make the kibble fall out! 🙂
Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Saturday for our Walk for Animals on the State House Lawn! 🐕 The event was a huge success, with lots of waggin’ tails and smiling faces. It warmed our hearts seeing all of our friends join together to celebrate the great work we do for the animals in our community.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in this important event by registering and raising funds, to those who donated, and give a special thanks to all of our sponsors. Together, we raised over $76,000 for the animals! 🥰
We would also like to extend our thanks to @CapitalCandy, Hannaford Supermarkets, and Dunkin' for donating a bunch of tasty refreshments for our walkers. 🚶♀️🐕🚶
In addition to One Stop Country Pet Supply, Woodbury Mountain Toys, Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen, Bear Naked Growler, AR Market, The Savoy Theatre, Bohemian Bakery, @TheGreatestCaper, 802 Cars , and Vermont Dog Eats for donating ALL of the prizes so that 100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser goes directly to the animals!
📸 We’d also like to give a shout out to Paul Richardson who offered professional pet portraits with the proceeds benefiting CVHS shelter animals, and Wayne Fawbush who did an outstanding job capturing our special event!
The Walk for Animals is a great example of how our community comes together to accomplish the same goal – and that goal is to help vulnerable animals get a second chance to live their best life.
Our work isn't over yet! We still need $4,000 to reach our $80,000 goal, and we need YOUR help to get there! ❤

We need every penny of that $80,000 as the animals coming into our care need more medical attention and behavioral support, and they are staying with us longer which increases our costs dramatically.
Our costs may continue to rise but that will never change the lengths we will go to, to help an animal in need. That is why it’s crucial that we
Walk for Animals is just a few days away and we’re so thrilled to have 802 Cars as our Leader of the Pack sponsor once again this year! 802 Cars (802 Honda, 802 Subaru, and 802 Toyota) are a loyal friend of shelter pets, not only with their generous financial support, but also by holding adoption events, donating toys and car detailing for other fundraisers here at CVHS, and by being volunteers and adopters! 🐱 They are a dealership that really cares about animals, and people who want great vehicles. A HUGE thank you for helping to make our Walk a success! Be sure to visit their booth this Saturday, June 8th on the State House Lawn and say hi and say thank you for us!
The generosity of local businesses like 802Cars allows CVHS to go the extra mile for all shelter animals, just like this litter of kittens! 🥰
These kittens came all the way from Kentucky in need of our help. When we have the room, we work with our shelter partners to help even more vulnerable animals receive the care they need and deserve. Right now, we have A LOT of kittens available for adoption. Interested in adopting one? See all of the available kitties here 👉 https://centralvermonthumane.org/adopt-a-cat/

Puppies!
We have 3 puppies here eagerly awaiting their new homes! Elly, Josie and Mae are 9-week old mixed breed puppies who are so sweet!
We are making appointments now with potential adopters, so don't miss the chance to get an appointment scheduled! You can find our adopter information form on our website, https://centralvermonthumane.org/adoption-process/and email it to [email protected].
We handle our adopter forms on a first come, best match. There is no placing holds or dibs on puppies. We do not know their breed mix; they are American Shelter Dogs. We do know the mother dog was about 60lbs and has already been adopted. Puppies are not always a good match for young children, but every puppy, and every child are individuals, so matches and decisions will be made case by case, based on the interaction, so please be sure to bring your children to the appointment. Meetings and adoptions take time, so please plan your time accordingly. If you are coming to meet a puppy, and currently have a dog in your home, please bring them along to the appointment for a meeting.
Adoption fee is $480, and includes the book “Puppy Socialization: What It Is and How to Do It” by Marge Rogers, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, CCUI and Eileen Anderson, MM, MS), spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchip, a 5-week training class, a 30-day free trial of 24PetWatch Pet Health Insurance, a sample bag of Hill’s Science Diet puppy food, and a voucher for a free veterinary exam from the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA).
We are closed Mondays, but would like to start scheduling adoption appointments as we are open by appointment Tuesday-Saturday.
Sharing some happiness today ❤️Available for adoption is Jon-Jon! Jon-Jon is a big, beautiful, affectionate boy. He has lots of personality, and is loving getting attention from staff. Jon-Jon is looking for a dog free home after he started to show signs of stress with the dog in his prior home. He has never lived with cats, though he may be ok with a slow introduction. Jon-Jon would love an indoor-outdoor home where he can explore his environment. Any home will be lucky to have Jon-Jon! Give us a call if interested 802-476-3811
