Whether your puppy has lost its way or an animal needs a home, the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter is here to help.

We are the Town of Huntington's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. We are responsible for the enforcement of town codes relating to domesticated animals. We care for and shelter both misplaced and surrendered dogs. Whether you are looking for a mature pet that is already housebroken or a puppy, we will help you find one that is just right for you!

Gunther, a 9yr old Terrier, came into our shelter almost a year ago and is ready for a fresh start with a new forever family! Understandably, after being in a home for 9 years, Gunther is reserved in the shelter environment and takes time to warm up to new people. Gunther has bonded quickly with our staff once he becomes comfortable. Gunther enjoys long walks off the property as well as free time in our exercise yard. We are looking for an experienced owner who will take the time to understand Gunther and his stressors. He has passed his behavioral assessment and has no food or toy possession issues. Gunther's ideal home would be a calm environment with no kids and no other pets. Gunther will be vaccinated, microchipped and neutered before leaving our shelter.

Sky is still looking for her forever home after being with us for almost a year! She is a 3yr old Pitbull mix weighing in around 45lbs. Sky has had a few behavioral issues when she first came to us but she continues to make positive strides in the right direction. Sky's walking and obedience skills have improved but the work will have to be continued with her new family. Some of Sky's favorites things include belly and butt scratches, long walks with her shelter friends or just lounging in the sun with a bone to chew! Sky has made some dog friends here in our program but can be very sensitive and picky with her playmates leading us to believe she would do best in a home without other animals. She will need a family who are experienced dog owners and with children 10+.

Meet Colton, a 5 year old Lab mix who came to our shelter after his owner could no longer care for him. While he's been here, we have spent time working on his obedience as well as his socialization. Once Colton has had a chance to burn some energy, he is relaxed and easy going. Colton loves basking in the sun, chasing a tennis ball and laying by your feet with a good bone! While not a candidate for going home with other animals at this time, Colton continues to work on this issue. Colton has passed his assessment and shows no issues with food or toy guarding. Colton will require an experienced dog owner, with children 12+, who is willing to continue his training and help him be the best dog he can be! Colton will be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before leaving the shelter.

Meet Eli! Eli is a 2yr old Chihuahua mix who came to our shelter as a stray. He is a rambunctious little pup who enjoys being with his people, going on walks, or playing with a group of his dog friends. Eli loves zooming around the yard and is looking for a family to match his energy! He has passed his behavioral assessment and has no food or toy guarding issues. Eli would do best in a home with an active family with children 10+. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped before leaving our shelter!

Meet Zena! Zena is a 6yr old Husky who unfortunately was surrendered to the shelter after her owner could no longer take care of her. Zena is a loving, well-mannered girl who enjoys being around people as much as she can be. Zena loves belly rubs, playing ball or just laying by your feet. As a typical Husky, she loves to sing to get anyone's attention and has no shame doing so! Zena has passed her behavioral assessment with no food or toy guarding issues. She would do best in a home with an experienced Husky owner and with children 10+. Zena will leave our shelter spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Meet Lou! Affectionally referred to around the shelter as “Big Lou”, is a 3yr old, 80lb Pitbull mix who came to our shelter as a stray. Lou enjoys spending time around people, wagging his tail and greeting each individual person in a room. It is evident that at one point, Lou was bonded to a family and deserves to have this once again in his life. Lou is a gentle giant who looks forward to all his walks and makes sure to relieve himself each time keeping his kennel space pristine. Lou loves being outside, rolling in the grass or playing with an appropriate dog friend. During his behavioral assessment, Lou did display some high value food and toy guarding which will need to be managed in his new home. Lou would do best in an experienced household with children 16+. Lou will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped before leaving the shelter!

Meet Bianca! She is a 4yr old Spaniel mix who came to our shelter as a stray. Bianca is a devoted and intelligent pup looking for a patient and understanding forever home! She will be guarded and unsure at first, but in time she will be an affectionate, loving companion. Bianca has become a shelter favorite with all of our staff. Some of Bianca's favorite things are walks, being outside and chasing a tennis ball! Bianca has displayed some guarding issues/kennel frustration during her behavioral assessment and will require an owner who will provide her with the guidance and consistency she needs to succeed. Due to her anxiety in her kennel, Bianca has sadly been overlooked by potential adopters. Bianca would do well in an experienced, low traffic all adult home. If you think you may be a match for Bianca, please contact us about setting up a one on one visit! Bianca will be spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Meet Sonny! Sonny is a 3yr old Golden Retriever mix, weighing about 40lbs, who came to our shelter as a stray. Sonny is a sweet but sensitive boy who may come off as a little shy at first meet but once getting to know you, Sonny's friendly, loyal and loving nature shines through. Sonny has passed his behavioral assessment with no food or toy guarding issues. He loves tennis balls, playing fetch and being by your side. Sonny plays well with other dogs who are on the calmer side with a gentle play style. His ideal home would be with an experienced, active family with children 10+.

Meet Leslie! Leslie is a 1yr old Husky mix who came to our shelter as a stray. As a typical Husky, Leslie is at her best when she is running, playing or working. Leslie loves people but can quickly become overstimulated and will need someone with the time and patience to teach her the obedience she needs to succeed. Leslie plays well with other dogs of her size and similar energy level/playstyle. She has passed our behavioral assessment with flying colors showing no food or toy guarding issues. The ideal family for Leslie would be an active, experienced household with children 12+. Leslie will be vaccinated, spayed and microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Meet Pikachu! Pikachu is a 2yr old Pitbull/Hound mix who is looking for the perfect forever family! Pikachu is a wiggly butt who plays well with other dogs and loves hanging out with his people! He has passed his behavioral assessment with no food or toy guarding issues. Pikachu would do best in an active home with an experienced owner. He would also do well with another dog (interaction necessary) and children 12+. Pikachu will be up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped before leaving our shelter!
