We are the Town of Huntington's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. We are responsible for the enforcement of town codes relating to domesticated animals. We care for and shelter both misplaced and surrendered dogs. Whether you are looking for a mature pet that is already housebroken or a puppy, we will help you find one that is just right for you!

Meet Leslie! Leslie is a 1yr old Husky mix who came to our shelter as a stray. As a typical Husky, Leslie is at her best when she is running, playing or working. Leslie loves people but can quickly become overstimulated and will need someone with the time and patience to teach her the obedience she needs to succeed. Leslie plays well with other dogs of her size and similar energy level/playstyle. She has passed our behavioral assessment with flying colors showing no food or toy guarding issues. The ideal family for Leslie would be an active, experienced household with children 12+. Leslie will be vaccinated, spayed and microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Meet Pikachu! Pikachu is a 2yr old Pitbull/Hound mix who is looking for the perfect forever family! Pikachu is a wiggly butt who plays well with other dogs and loves hanging out with his people! He has passed his behavioral assessment with no food or toy guarding issues. Pikachu would do best in an active home with an experienced owner. He would also do well with another dog (interaction necessary) and children 12+. Pikachu will be up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped before leaving our shelter!

Meet Rocco! Rocco is a 2yr old Shepherd mix who was returned by his adopter by no fault of his own! Rocco is a large, goofy fellow who is very much still a puppy. Due to this, Rocco needs a experienced handler who has the time and patience to continue to work on his obedience. Typical of his breed, Rocco is happiest when he's busy with a toy or around his favorite people. Rocco has passed his behavioral assessment, showing no issues with food or toy guarding. He would best in a home with children (16+). Rocco will leave the shelter neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines!

Meet Sky! Sky is a 3yr old Pitbull mix who came to our shelter as a stray. Sky initially was reserved with us but in time she opened up and showed her friendly personality. Like many fearful dogs, Sky displayed some guarding behavior with her food. Since joining us, Sky has made strides in the right direction but this work will need to be continued with her future family. Sky loves to nothing more than being outside playing ball or just lounging in our kiddie pool! She would likely do best in a home as the only pet and with children 12+. She will be fully vetted and microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Colton is still hoping his forever family finds him! Colton was surrendered by his owner, adopted out then returned again for some simple leash training. Since then, Colton has made so many positive improvements! He loves people, walks, fetch or just laying out in the sun. Colton would have to be the only pet in the home and with children 12+. Come meet this sweet guy!

Meet Mocha! Mocha is a 7yr old Pitbull mix who is ready to find her forever family! Mocha is friendly and loving but can also be independent at times. She loves having people around, playing fetch and does well in a gentle style playgroup with her doggie friends! Mocha has no food or toy guarding issues and has passed her behavioral assessment. Meet Frank! Frank is a 2yr old Black Lab mix. Frank is very much a typical Lab who loves to play but also loves every ounce of attention from people he can get! From playing ball to playing with other dogs, Frank always wants to be in the middle of the action. Frank has passed his behavioral assessment but has minor food guarding issues that will need to be worked with. He would do best in an active home with children (12+). Frank will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines before leaving the shelter!

When Curtis arrived at our shelter, we assumed it would just be matter of time before that scruffy face and happy-go-lucky attitude landed him into his forever home. However, just a short time after joining us, it become clear that something was not right. Curtis began vomiting and slowly lost his appetite, which was unlike him! Those symptoms gave us reason to believe that Curtis may have been suffering from a foreign body, which is a medical emergency! Curtis was rushed to our veterinarian partner who strongly urged that Curtis be taken to a local emergency hospital right away. Curtis was quickly diagnosed with what we feared and was taken into surgery immediately. After a successful surgery, Curtis slowly returned to the wiggly, happy boy that we remembered from just a few short days ago. Through the excitement of his recovery, we were then faced with a considerable veterinary bill. Fortunately for us, the shelter is partnered with Give a Dog a Dream, a non-profit which was created to help with emergent situations like Curtis’. Give a Dog a Dream is a 501c3 charity which provides specialized veterinary care and advanced dog behavior modification training at the Huntington dog shelter.

Through your continued support, we will never have to or need to worry about making a life saving decision due to financial reasons.

In the spirit of the giving season, we ask that you consider making a donation to help our animals continue to thrive and find the happy homes they deserve. We are sure Curtis agrees, as we are thrilled to report that Curtis now has his very own forever home thanks to the generosity of our supporters!
