We are the Town of Huntington's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. We are responsible for the enforcement of town codes relating to domesticated animals. We care for and shelter both misplaced and surrendered dogs. Whether you are looking for a mature pet that is already housebroken or a puppy, we will help you find one that is just right for you!

Meet Taylor! She is a 5yr old Pitbull mix who came to our shelter as a stray. Taylor is a friendly, wiggly, happy girl whose hobbies include short bursts of playing ball to long bursts of napping! From when Taylor arrived, she has been through our behavioral program for leash training. Since then, she is a pleasure to walk and enjoys long strolls around the neighborhood! Taylor has passed her behavioral assessment with no food guarding issues and minor toy guarding issues. Taylor’s looking for a single pet home with an experienced owner and children 16+. Taylor will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.

Meet Piglet! Piglet is a 1 yr old Pitbull mix who is looking for a new forever home. Piglet is a wiggly, happy girl who loves everyone and everything. She has passed her behavioral assessment and has no issues with food guarding or toy possession. Piglet loves people but still needs some confidence when meeting new dogs. Her play style is very gentle/dainty, she does not show aggression toward others but is very nervous if the playgroup is rowdy! Piglet would do well in a home with another dog (interaction necessary) and children 10+. She will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.

Meet Yogi! Yogi is a 2yr old Yellow Lab that came to us due to his owners relocating and not being able to take him. While Yogi shares many of the attributes of a typical Yellow Lab, Yogi will require significant guidance and behavioral support to assimilate into his new home. We’re seeking an experienced owner with the time and patience to address these issues. Yogi is a very high energy dog that will require a fenced in backyard as well as long walks and one-on-one attention. At his core, Yogi is a goofy, happy boy and would excel in any activity with people he loves. He is dog friendly and would do well in a home with children (16+). Yogi will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.

Meet Jada! Jada is a 5 yr old Pitbull mix who came to us after her owner was unable to take care of her. Jada is a happy, wiggly, friendly girl who loves everyone she meets! She has passed her behavioral assessment with no food guarding or toy possession issues. She enjoys the company of other dogs and has a gentle/dainty playstyle. Jada would do well in a home with another dog (interaction necessary) and children 6+. She will leave fully vetted and microchipped.

Meet Gunther! Gunther is a 9yr old Terrier mix who is ready to find a new forever home! He may come off as a bit shy at first but once he is comfortable, Gunther has a big personality! Gunther has passed his behavioral assessment and has no food guarding or toy possession issues. He is friendly, playful and does well meeting new dogs that have the same play style as him; gentle and dainty. Gunther would do best in a home with children (10+) and with another dog (interaction necessary). He will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter!

Duke, our super senior, is still looking for his forever home! Duke has a few medical conditions that we have been addressing and he has made significant progress. He would be fine in a home with cats but due to his age and health, we feel he should be the only dog and with children 10+.

Meet Sky! Sky is a 2yr old Pitbull mix who recently arrived at our shelter. Sky initially was reserved with us but in time she opened up and showed her friendly personality. Sky has made some dog friends here in our program but can be very sensitive and picky with her playmates. Like many fearful dogs, Sky displayed some guarding behavior with her food. Since joining us, Sky has made strides in the right direction but this work will need to be continued with her future family. Sky loves to nothing more than being outside playing ball or just lounging in our kiddie pool! She will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving our shelter.

Meet Colton, a 4 year old Lab mix. While he's been here, we have spent time working on his obedience as well as his socialization. Once Colton has had a chance to burn some energy, he is relaxed and easy going. While not a candidate for going home with other animals at this time, Colton has shown improvement in this area. Colton has passed his assessment and shows no issues with food or toy guarding. Colton will require an experienced dog owner, with children 12+, who is willing to continue his training and help him be the best dog he can be! Colton will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.

Meet Archer, a 4yr old tan Chihuahua. Archer is a friendly, inquisitive, affectionate dog who loves meeting new people. He does well with other dogs but does best in a gentle/dainty playgroup. Archer has passed his assessment with no food or toy issues and continues to show us his sweet personality daily. He would do best in a home with other animals and children 10+. Archer will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.

Meet Benji! Benji is a 1 yr old Chihuahua mix who came to our shelter as a stray. Benji may seem reserved at first glance but in time he will open up and show his true personality. Despite his small stature, Benji will benefit from an experienced home (with children 12+) prepared to give him the boundaries and obedience training he will need. Benji has played well with other dogs, however, he can be sensitive around some depending on play-style (interaction necessary). Benji has been tested with food and toys, he did show minor guarding behaviors which will need to be managed in his forever home. Benji will be fully vetted and microchipped upon leaving the shelter.
