I hope everyone had a merry Christmas! Here’s a few things I managed to get pictures of that got finished up in time for the Christmas celebrations… there were more that I didn’t get pictures of before they left. I still have more to finish, and then I’ll be starting the next batch of mounting. I had hoped to be much further ahead by now, but good old Covid had other plans 🫠 hopefully, shortly after new year’s, I can get back to work!

📣 Happy Monday everybody, quick reminder: 📣I take drop offs and pick up times by APPOINTMENT ONLY. I am in and out of the shop quite frequently, but my business is not big enough to be open 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience. I’m there during the work week long enough to get my work done, and then I go home. I do not live on the property my shop is at, so I’m not there all of the time. Over the course of the business, I’ve had dozens of appointments set up, and I wait for hours and people never show up, or they’re an hour early, or an hour late, or want to drop off at 9 pm or 6 am on a Sunday, or get very nasty with me for not being open all day on holidays. You don’t just show up at your mechanic’s and wonder why he’s not there on a holiday, you don’t blow off your appointment at your doctors, and you don’t show up an hour early before a restaurant opens and get smart with them for not being ready for you. I’m a human too, I enjoy the same holidays with my family you do, I do the same errand running and playing catch up on the weekends that the rest of the world does. Please be respectful of my personal life, and when I give you a time to be at my shop or we have a set appointment, be there at that time. If you can’t make it, be courteous enough to give me a heads up so that I’m not waiting on you for hours.

Here’s an update… I placed my second order of the season… and the eyes I normally order for deer, are already on back order. So I went with something very slightly different. I have 2 bear hides at tanneries I’m waiting on from this spring, I have about half of my archery deer finished, drying, or about to be mounted, and many of the firearm season deer skinned. Finished this white squirrel, got 2 of 3 foxes mounted, and have a few deer to try and detail over the next few days along with skinning, tanning, and fleshing other hides to keep up with space management. I’m doing my best to stick to the estimated timelines I give everyone, and as long as I can continue getting supplies, it shouldn’t be an issue!

Some days, I question if I made the right career choice. Other days, I get to work on a silver fox 😍

Here’s your reminder to please not cut all the way up the spine on your cape if you intend to get your trophy mounted!! In 9 years I’ve only had a handful of them, but for whatever reason, this year over half the bucks coming in are cut all the way up the spine to the base of the skull. Please don’t do that! Here are some examples of how to cape out your buck for mounting. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to help guide you!

Cattaraugus County Hunters!!!

If you shoot a buck, even if you don’t plan on mounting it, you can bring it to me! I help the DEC with collecting lymph node samples so they can test for CWD, and we need lots of bucks from Catt County, and they need the majority of them in BEFORE rifle season gets well under way. Here’s another start to finish… probably one of my favorite jobs I’ve done- and first time creating a mostly water scene. This over 50 pound beaver was brought in this spring, the customer drew up what his idea was… and I did my best to deliver… I’d say it’s pretty darn close! The Amish guy down the road made the log base to hold it all in, so that the resin would chip on anything! Enjoy!

From start to finish on the ‘fighting’ mount-

I ordered this base for this mount, and it was a company reject, which worked out perfect for me! I covered it in glue, patted peat moss into it and let it dry. Then I mounted the coyote, then the racc**n, and then got to work on the details! Made a little stream with resin to look like real water, made some artificial mud that the c**n was ‘playing in’, and added some fall colors to it! Super happy with how it turned out! Always a fun, challenging mount in store when Chris stops by, but it’s always worth it!

Time for a new educational post as we near archery season! I skipped a lot of steps and info bc I can’t give all my secrets away, but here’s what it looks like underneath. The form is foam. The eyes are glass. The ear liners are plastic. There’s also clay and glue hidden in there. Not as gross as many people would assume! The only parts of the real deer are the hide and antlers. This big guy was mounted today and will have adjustments done and dry time for the next couple weeks before he’s ready to be detailed and sent home:) I do not own rights to the music!

First heat, MOUNTED! This is the most deer I’ve ever put together in 5 days (feels more like 15 days) and it’s the least amount of room I’ve had in my shop 😂 few weeks of drying time, means a few weeks of skinning, fleshing, and tanning the next group! In the meantime, if you come to my shop, excuse the mess and and the possible antlers poking you from every side 😂🤙
