Paws Unite People

Paws Unite People Our mission at Paws Unite People is to help eliminate the suffering of animals and humans alike. Our mission is simple. There is always hope.... all is not lost.

We support animals and the people who love them when they need it the most. We assist shelter, abused, and neglected animals in finding their purpose in life through rehabilitation and training. We also help the people who care about them when they need us whenever we can. Our Rehabilitation Facility is designed to benefit both people and animals in their daily life interactions. We believe both h

uman and animal alike deserve assistance and a second chance. Cats and Dogs are not kept in cages, they live in an open environment. We have special need adults come visit and work with the cats, we train our therapy animals there, and we use the space to rehabilitate abused, neglected, and shelter animals. We are currently providing assistance to 2 groups of former animal shelter staff members and their families from Afghanistan who were supposed to make it in to the airport prior to the end of the withdrawal. There are over 200 people in our group who rely on us for their survival. For information on that effort, use the NEWS tab on our site. Our goal is to create programs designed to benefit both people and animals in their daily life interactions. We believe in helping cats and dogs get a second chance in life. Through their interactions with people they can bring hope to others. Our goal is always to help animals and the people who love them. One at a time, we strive to make a difference. The Beatles were right "Love is all you need." We strive to be a resource for rescue groups by providing assistance, training, and education to their members and rescue volunteers. It takes a village, and nobody can do it alone. If you are looking for a pet, shoot us an email at [email protected] and we will help you find the right match for your family, because that is what rescue really is. Rescue is about making families, helping families, and healing hearts. We are a Not-for-profit corporation in New York State & a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in April 2013. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax ID #: 46-2371384. NYS registered rescue/shelter

Jackie-Boy is rocking his new snazzy hoodie! He actually likes wearing clothes—who are we to argue? 😆

This sweet 4-year-old has some unique allergies—believe it or not, he's allergic to cat dander! As for food, he has to avoid kangaroo, most seafood, pea protein, and alligator. 🐈🐠🦘🐊

Jackie-Boy loves leash walks and is doing well on Allegra for his allergies. He’s looking for a forever home that understands he thinks he is a dog and his needs. Could that be you?

Fritz hopes everyone had a great weekend ❤️
Hi, I’m Fritz, a 3-year-old German Spitz with a big personality and an even bigger love for spinning! If I could sum up my life’s aspiration in one sentence, it would be: I just want to be a canine tornado! 🌀

I’m all about those circular movements. Whether I’m chasing my emotional support stuffed dinosaur (yep, that’s my favorite toy!) or spinning around in endless circles, I’m always in motion and ready for some fun. I’ve got the silliest energy, and I’m here to keep you laughing all day long. 😄

When I first came to the shelter, I wasn’t exactly a fan of face pets. But don’t worry, it wasn’t a behavioral issue—I was just in pain! After getting some dental work done, I’ve blossomed into the happy, playful little guy you see now. I’m a whole new dog, and I’m ready for all the cuddles and love you’ve got to give. 💖

I do have a few quirks: I’m not a fan of most dogs (I’ve gotten along with Mr. B and Berry, though!), and I don’t do well with cats. But when it comes to people, I’m a total love bug! 🐾

My favorite game is called “Big Scary Monster”—and let me tell you, it’s a sight to see! I’ll spin around as fast as I can while playfully growling. It’s hilarious, and it’s guaranteed to make you smile! 😜

Oh, and did I mention my birthday is January 21st? 🎉 I’m ready to celebrate with a family who can keep up with my whirlwind energy and love for life.

If you’re looking for a silly, lovable dog who’s all about fun, playtime, and spinning in circles, I’m your guy. Adopt Fritz and let’s make every day an adventure full of laughter and joy! 🦖💨

At Paws Unite People (PUP), our mission has always been to support animals and the people who care for them. Over the years, we have worked with some of the most selfless individuals—Afghan rescue workers who risked their lives to protect animals in war-torn Afghanistan. These courageous men and women not only cared for stray and abandoned animals but also played a crucial role in supporting U.S. and NATO troops by looking after their military working dogs, as well as the pets they rescued while stationed there.

During the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, our Afghan partners delayed their own evacuation to collect abandoned Contract Working Dogs and the personal pets of U.S. and NATO personnel. Amidst the chaos and danger, they risked everything to ensure these animals were safe and had a chance at evacuation. Their unwavering commitment to both animals and their owners speaks volumes about their character and dedication.

Thanks to their bravery and determination, the animals they rescued were eventually reunited with their owners or safely rehomed after being evacuated. However, while these pets found safe homes and security, the heroes who made it all possible have been left waiting—waiting for their chance at safety, waiting for the U.S. to fulfill its promise to bring them to a secure future. They have spent years in Pakistan under our support, living in uncertainty and fear, hoping for the day they can start anew without the looming threat of the Taliban.

Our Afghan partners were referred for relocation through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program under Priority 1 (P1) and Priority 2 (P2) designations—programs intended for individuals facing direct threats due to their affiliation with U.S. missions. Others pursued the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, designed for those who provided critical support to U.S. forces. We also recently began utilizing the Welcome Corps program to help get them processed with sponsors, easing some of the pressure on the U.S. resettlement system. Each of these individuals has undergone a rigorous and lengthy vetting process, including extensive background checks, biometric screening, and security clearances by multiple U.S. agencies. Despite meeting every requirement, they have been left stranded due to bureaucratic delays and shifting policies, with their futures hanging in the balance.

Recent blanket executive orders suspending the processing of all refugees signed by President Trump have further crushed their hopes for resettlement. This halt of movement hurts our friends and allies, it also places many people in danger. Just when many of our group were finally cleared to relocate to the U.S., these sudden policy changes have placed their futures in jeopardy. The heartbreaking reality is that only a small number of our original group remains, and their situation grows more dire by the day.
But it’s not just our group that is at risk. Thousands of other brave Afghan men, women, and children who assisted the U.S. mission—whether by working alongside troops, aiding humanitarian efforts, or supporting diplomatic operations—are also trapped in limbo. They, too, are waiting on P1, P2, and SIV approvals, facing the same bureaucratic obstacles and policy changes that have left their futures uncertain.

These individuals put their lives on the line to support U.S. efforts, and they now face the terrifying prospect of being forced back into Taliban-controlled areas, where they are at extreme risk of persecution and violence.

To make matters worse, recent actions by the Pakistani government have compounded their suffering. The government has launched a harsh crackdown on Afghan refugees, which could potentially result in their forced return to Taliban-controlled areas—placing them in grave danger. This crackdown affects not only our group but also the thousands of other Afghans who supported the United States and are now left stranded. These individuals, including our group—who once worked tirelessly alongside U.S. government employees and troops to save animals that meant everything to deployed service members—now find themselves abandoned and with nowhere to turn.

Adding to these challenges, the suspension of the Welcome Corps program has eliminated one of the most promising pathways for resettlement. Welcome Corps previously allowed private citizens and organizations to sponsor vetted Afghan refugees and help them build new lives in the U.S. With the program now on hold, those of us who are ready and willing to sponsor our Afghan allies are left powerless, further delaying their chances of finding safety. These individuals have been fully vetted and cleared, yet they remain in limbo due to policies that fail to prioritize their urgent needs.

At Paws Unite People, this fight is deeply personal. These individuals are not just names on a list—they are our friends, our partners, and our heroes. They showed extraordinary kindness and courage when it mattered most, and now it is our turn to stand up for them. Abandoning them now would be a betrayal of the trust they placed in us and in the United States.
We are urging our supporters to take action. Please contact your representatives and demand that the U.S. government uphold its commitments to these Afghan heroes.
You can look up your representatives here:

We cannot allow them to be forgotten after everything they have done for our troops and their beloved animals.
Paws Unite People remains dedicated to doing everything in our power to support our Afghan allies—but we cannot do it alone. Together, we can make a difference and fight for those who gave so much to us and our animals.

Every Little Bit Helps – Let’s Make a Difference Together! 🐾❤️🐕

Ever try driving a car with three wheels or eating a sandwich with no bread? Sure, it’s possible… but it’s not pretty, and it definitely doesn’t get the job done. That’s how we feel without your support! Every donation, no matter how small, is the missing piece that keeps our rescue moving forward. 🚗🐾🥪

Right now, we’re in crunch time. Our grants are on hold until we relocate, and we’ve got until January 31st to make it happen! Without your help, it’s like trying to drive uphill in reverse—or worse, eating just the lettuce from a BLT. Let’s fix that together! 💪🔥🐶

Supporting the underdog (and undercat) isn’t easy, but with your help, it’s always worth it.

Every Little Bit Helps – Let’s Make a Difference Together! 🐾❤️🐕

Ever try eating a bowl of cereal without milk? Sure, you can do it, but something just feels... off. That’s how we feel without your donations—every single one is the milk to our rescue cereal, and we can’t finish the bowl without you! 🥣🐾

Right now, we’re on a mission to relocate so we can unlock our grants and keep helping the animals who need us most. But here’s the catch: we need your help before January 31st to pull this off! Think of it as helping us find the milk aisle in life’s grocery store. 💪🔥🐶

Supporting the underdog (and undercat) isn’t easy, but it’s always worth it. Let’s make it happen, one pawprint at a time!

(Heck, we’ll even accept donations via smoke signals or interpretive dance if that works for you. And yes, our rescue cats are still open to carrier pigeon delivery… though, they may have alternative plans for the pigeons. 😂🐦💨)

What’s up, future bestie? I’m Billy, a 20-month-old German Shepherd/Border Collie mix (yes, I swear the German Shepherd is in there somewhere). I’m here to tell you why adopting me will be the most chaotic—and BEST—decision of your life.
First things first: I’ve got boundless energy. Like, forget the Energizer Bunny—I’m on a whole other level. Some might say I’m “on crack” (but legally, it’s just my personality). I’m basically a dog-shaped Velociraptor with an Olympic-level zoomie game. If you’ve got a dog who loves to play and can match my level of insanity, we’ll be BFFs in no time. 🦖🐾

Cats? Meh, not really my vibe—unless your cat is super dog-savvy and can handle my velociraptor energy.
Small dogs? Nah, they’re not ready for this jelly.
Big dogs who love chaos? YES, LET’S GO.
Now, about strangers... they’re weird, and I’m not always sure how I feel about them at first. But once I figure out they’re cool, I’m all in. Just give me a little time to warm up, and I’ll be their favorite Velociraptor, too.
What else? Oh, yeah—I LOVE to play. Fetch? Yes. Tug? Yes. Games that haven’t been invented yet? Also yes. I’m always ready to go-go-go, and I need a human who’s just as excited about adventure as I am. Hiking, running, or just wearing each other out in the backyard—sign me up.

So, if you’ve got energy for days, a sense of humor, and no small creatures who’ll scream when I zoom, let’s do this. Adopt me, and I’ll make your life as exciting as a Jurassic Park sequel (without the dinos eating people, I promise).
Adopt Billy—because life is better with a little chaos. 🐾🦴

01/13/2025

Hi, I’m Leo, an 8-year-old Kuwaiti Canaan Dog, and my journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m still here, full of life and love! ❤️ Let me tell you a little about my story—it's one of survival, strength, and second chances.

I was just a 5-month-old puppy when I was hit by a car, beaten, and tossed in a dumpster in Kuwait. 😢 But after months of recovery, I was sent to New Jersey in the summer of 2019. At first, everything seemed great, but as the colder weather arrived, I started acting strange and showing aggression towards strangers. I was growling, and the shelter thought I was unadoptable. They were going to put me down, but the Kuwait rescue reached out to PUP, and they rushed to save me.

Turns out, I was having trouble adjusting to the bone pain that comes with cold weather—I wasn’t used to seasons! But there was more to it. I had Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne illness that was causing pain too. After some treatment and pain management, I was back to being my happy, energetic self, ready to play and cuddle! 🐾💕

I was adopted by a family, but unfortunately, they didn’t manage my illness, and I was reclaimed by PUP in February 2024 after an update call found me in bad shape. I had a fever, but after some care and attention, my Ehrlichiosis cleared up, and my arthritis was managed. Now, I’m back to my playful, loving self. On rainy or cold days, I need a little extra care, but I’m still the life of the party! 🎉

I’m a happy-go-lucky guy who loves to play, run, and be the life of the party. I adore people (I really do!), and I get along great with cats, dogs, and kids. BUT, when I’m not feeling well, I may growl at strangers—this is just me telling you I need a vet check. It’s not aggression, just a way for me to communicate that something’s wrong.

Here’s the deal: I need a family who understands that I require routine medical management for my tick-borne illness and occasional arthritis. When I’m feeling great, I’m the best buddy—full of love, butt scratches, cuddles, and playtime. 🐾❤️

Adopt Leo, and you’ll have a loyal, playful companion who will bring joy and love to your life. 💖 Let’s make some new memories, together!
