Professionals are often charged with the task of cleaning up the mess made by an amateur.

It happens across professions, whether it's a hairstylist fixing a bad color job or a behavior consultant like me contending with the damages caused to a dog with inhumane training. I am often the 3rd or 4th trainer a person comes to, in an attempt to help their dog (and thank goodness for their perseverance!)

Trust me, your path will be much smoother and the costs (both monetary and emotional) will ultimately be much less if you start with a qualified professional from the beginning.

What Can Animals Remember? The Neuroscience of Memory

Monday, December 11, 2023
6pm to 7:30pm EST (USA and Canada)

Enroll Here!! πŸ“πŸ‘‰ https://behaviorvets.mylearnworlds.com/course/the-neuroscience-of-memory

πŸ“š Memory is the key to how we learn, react to our surroundings, even to our relationships.

In recent years, our understanding of animal memories has evolved beyond simple stimulus-response behaviors. We now know that dogs remember more than we think, and many species can remember complex associations, interactions and consequences, and may even use those to plan future actions.

Learn about what animals can remember through the lens of current neuroscience research with neuroscientist and science communicator Dr. Paula Croxson, as we explore the remarkable similarities between the brains of dogs, cats and other species, and how this helps us live with and communicate with our animal companions.

Better than a weighted blanket ❀

08/05/2023

Hormone-driven processes occur during key periods of brain development. These processes are fundamental to the formation of neural connections and brain circuitry, which ultimately shape a canine's behavior, learning capabilities, and responses to various stimuli. Understanding these critical periods is essential for identifying optimal times for training, socialization, and enrichment activities in a dog's life.

Imbalances or disruptions in hormonal regulation during brain development can lead to various neurological disorders and behavioral problems. Recognizing the importance of hormones in brain development can help professionals and guardians devise better strategies for preventing and addressing such issues.

In this webinar, we will explore the many ways that s*x hormones influence brain
development, structure and function, facilitating a deeper understanding of the interplay
between s*x hormones and behavior. We will build upon Dr Hekman’s webinar, and
explore the β€˜whether, when and how to neuter?’ for different situations with the aim of
providing what’s needed for you to make informed neutering decisions.

Neurobiology of Grief

Sunday, August 13, 2023
11am to 12:30pm EDT (USA and Canada)

Enroll Here!! πŸ“πŸ‘‰ https://behaviorvets.mylearnworlds.com/course/neurobiology-of-grief

How can we support animals who grieve? Join us to explore this question and more. Grief is a complex emotion that can be experienced not only by humans but also by animals.

The neurobiology of grief in humans involves a range of neural circuits and neurotransmitters that are thought to be similar across mammalian species. Studies have shown that dogs can experience grief in response to the loss of a companion animal or human family member, and this grief can manifest in a range of behavioral changes such as decreased appetite, lethargy, and changes in sleep patterns. Additionally, recent research has suggested that dogs may be capable of displaying empathy towards their owners, indicating that they may be sensitive to emotional states and capable of experiencing emotional contagion. Join us for this webinar exploring grief in animals, what it is, what it isn’t and most importantly how we can support animals experiencing grief.

πŸ“š Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the neural circuits and neurotransmitters involved in the processing and regulation of grief.
2. Explore the behavioral changes that dogs and other animals may exhibit in response to grief, such as decreased appetite, lethargy, and changes in sleep patterns.
3. Analyze the potential factors that influence grief in dogs, such as individual differences in personality, attachment style, and coping strategies.
4. Investigate the relationship between empathy and grief in dogs, and how dogs may display emotional contagion in response to their owners' emotional states.
5. Develop a deeper understanding of the emotional lives of dogs, including their capacity for grief and the impact of social context on their emotional well-being.
