When Dr. Gary Klement was 16 years old, he lost his favorite dog as a result of heartworm disease. At that time, Dr. Klement decided to pursue his passion to bring high quality veterinary medicine to his hometown of Quincy and surrounding areas to better the lives of pets and their owners. Dr. Klement was accepted to McPherson College at the age of 17, and graduated 4 years later with a degree in

Research Biology. After another year of studying at the University of Nevada, Dr. Klement was accepted into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa. After graduating from Iowa State Veterinary School in 1990, Dr. Klement worked the next 4 years in large, fast-paced multiple doctor veterinary hospitals in Las Vegas and Reno. This experience gave Dr. Klement the practical knowledge to deal with the variety of difficult medical and surgical situations that a veterinarian in a rural area will face. American Valley Animal Hospital was founded on May 1st, 1995, and since then, continues to bring the highest standard of veterinary medicine and surgery to this rural area. Dr. Klement and Tara love all animals, and their home is owned by 1 Black lab, 1 Golden Retriever and 2 Belgian Malinois as well as numerous cats, goats, rabbits and chickens. Dr. Klement and his wife have a keen interest in working dogs. Dr. Klement can often be found providing veterinary support at a working dog training club in the Oroville area as well as Police K- 9 working dog trials in California's North Valley.
