Ober-the-Top Dairy Goats

Ober-the-Top Dairy Goats Thank you for your interest in Ober-the-Top! Today, I raise Oberhasli dairy goats under my own herd name, Ober-the-Top, which I established in 2008.

Established in 2008, Ober-the-Top is a dairy goat herd in southern Wisconsin owned by Abby Ball, DVM that is dedicated to breeding show-quality American Oberhasli. I received my first Oberhasli when I was 12 as a 4-H and FFA project on my neighbor Kiki Brackett's farm under the Brackett's Sunburst herd name. I studied Animal Science and Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin from 2012-2015,

and I will be attending the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine from 2015-2019. I plan to practice large animal veterinary medicine and specialize in small ruminants in the future. My herd is based off the best of Kiki's Brackett's Sunburst Farm. I strive to utilize the best Oberhasli genetics in order to produce offspring that improve upon previous generations and are competitive in the show ring. My herd is CAE and CL negative. All kids are removed from their dams at birth and raised on heat-treated colostrum, followed by pasteurized milk until weaning. I practice strict culling in order to keep my herd small, yet competitive. My herd is very small right now, being a college student, but I hope to expand my herd in the coming years. I bring my goats to about 3 or more shows a year, usually including the Wisconsin State Fair and ADGA National Show whenever its location is close. I also participate in Linear Appraisal and DHIR. I encourage you to add an Ober-the-Top animal to your breeding program!

Even though I'm a vet, I'm terrible about taking the time to ultrasound my own goats. Today's snow storm was a good excuse for me to get this done ❄️ I scanned four does and all were pregnant! I had a good breeding season with only one doe re-cycling whose 21-day watch day is tomorrow. Kidding season will start mid-March. There were a couple changes to the initial breeding plans, but I'm excited about them all! I think this will be my best year yet. Here's the confirmed breedings so far:

CH Ober-the-Top Lark x Autumn-Acres GT Gravity (AI)
CH (pend) Dreamy Sunset OBD Pearl x Ober-Boerd T Vector
CH (pend) Brackett's Sunburst Prima Dona x Ober-Boerd King's Landing (AI)
Ober-Boerd T Vanna x Ober-Boerd T Vector

Still waiting to confirm things on CH (pend) Ober-the-Top Stormy, but she was also live bred to Ober-Boerd T Vector.

Feel free to PM with any interest in reserving kids!

A goat I don't post about very often... one of my originals- CH Ober-the-Top Shiloh 🩷
Shiloh is still kicking it at the age of 10 on Kiki 's farm. She's a daughter of the beautiful SGCH Brackett's Sunburst Crimson (2012 ADGA Reserve National Junior Champion) and the well-known SG Haycreeks X Solution. Unfortunately I didn't get many daughters from Shiloh, but one was Ober-the-Top Robin who is Lark's mother.
A few years ago, Shiloh sadly had a sudden onset of what we think is a lower neck issue, which forced her into retirement. When I bought my farm a couple years ago, I decided to leave Shiloh at Kiki's, as it was home to her and where she would feel most comfortable living out the rest of her life. I can't thank Kiki enough for keeping Shiloh for me and her daily care of her. She is one of the sweetest goats out there. She was my second ever homebred permanent champion doe and my first BOB at state fair. I think she's a beautiful example of the breed, and I love her big strong Oberhasli head. We are continuously making sure she is happy and comfortable, but for now I am cherishing the time she has left.

This is going to be a longer post, but I wanted to recap my special 2025 show season.

Usually the Wisconsin State Fair is my last show of the year, but this year I decided to try something new and attend the MN Goat Ladies' Bluff Country Show this weekend with some junior does. I only brought two intermediate kids in my popper with the hopes of maybe getting a dry leg on one of them. To say yesterday exceeded my expectations is an understatement. Both Ober-the-Top Raven and Ober-the-Top Gem got their dry legs (AOP), as well as one reserve win each. And Raven went on to be BJDIS under Ashley Scheel! What a way to cap off the show season! πŸ₯Ή

But beyond yesterday, this is a show season I will not soon forget. I think my ribbon wall in my house is evidence of that 😳 here are the highlights:

️🌟I attended 6 shows (Tri-State Classic, WDGA Badger State Show, IDGA Interstate Showdown, the ADGA National Show in Grand Island NE, WI State Fair, and the MN Bluff Country Show).
🌟I finished two senior does (Dreamy-Sunset OBD Pearl and Brackett's Sunburst Prima Dona). All of the senior does in my herd are finished champions.
🌟I had three BJDIS wins (two with Ober-Boerd T Vanna and one with Ober-the-Top Raven). All of my junior does in the herd have their dry leg.
🌟I had my first individual class winner at the ADGA National Show with Ober-Boerd T Vanna in the junior yearling class and stood in my second ever national champion line-up. Ober-the-Top Siren was also in the lineup as the 2nd place in that class!
🌟6 of the 8 animals I brought to Nationals placed in the Top 10.
🌟At the Wisconsin State Fair, I had the RGCH Senior Doe (Brackett's Sunburst Prima Dona), GCH Junior Doe (Ober-Boerd T Vanna), and RGCH Junior Doe (Ober-the-Top Raven).
🌟I got to exhibit at an Oberhasli Breeders of America Specialty Show at the WDGA Badger State Show judged by none other than Kirt Schnipke, where I took GCH and RGCH Senior and GCH Junior.

I am so proud of the accomplishments of my small herd. I work so hard year-round to make sound breeding choices, raise healthy goats, and fit/ show my animals to the best of my ability, and it's rewarding when all the hard work pays off. Now it's time to turn my attention to breeding season... Until next show season ✌️

A couple photos of junior stock from the Wisconsin State Fair that I am excited for!

First is my dry yearling Ober-Boerd T Vanna who had a stellar year in the show ring. She took 1st in the junior yearling class at ADGA Nationals, and was Junior GCH at WI State Fair. She also was 2x BJDIS at my first show of the year on top of numerous other GCH and RGCH wins. She will be bred to my junior herdsire Ober-Boerd T Vector this fall!

Second is Ober-the-Top Raven, a March-born kid from this year. She is an AI Lark daughter out of Windscape DV Settlers of Catan. She also had a good show year being 6th place Intermediate Kid at ADGA Nationals and then taking RGCH at WI State Fair. She also had a couple other RGCH wins at local shows during the season. Raven will be kept dry for 2026.

Looking forward to seeing these ladies mature and excited for the future of my herd ❀️

I still have a really pretty May-born Oberhasli buckling available. He's tall, long-bodied, and dairy, as well as has a nice dark bay coloring we like to see in the breed
His dam is CH (pend) Ober-the-Top Stormy (https://genetics.adga.org/GoatDetail.aspx?RegNumber=B002261038). Stormy was the 2024 WI State Fair BOB, and placed 2nd this year in CC. She appraised 87VEEV in June this year. She is one of the prettiest framed does in my herd. Stormy is an AI daughter out of CH (pend) Ober-the-Top Lark and Ober-Boerd Stormbringer.
The sire of this buckling is Early Rise Acres WHB Pemberton (https://genetics.adga.org/GoatDetail.aspx?RegNumber=B002261776). Pemberton is a rare AI buck out of the well-known White-Haven PM Bundaberg.
Please PM with any interest. I am located in southern Wisconsin. He is priced to move at $400 and should be ready for fall breeding. Can send more pictures if desired upon request

I'm very excited to announce my fall breeding plans- I think these will be some of my best yet! I'm especially looking forward to utilizing my new junior herdsire, Ober-Boerd T Vector, who I hope will bring more type and consistency to my herd. Vector is the son of Ober-Boerd T Vela, the 1st place 3-year-old at the 2025 ADGA National Show. His sire Vanjust NRNR Smoked Kandie is a son of 2024 ADGA National Champion and Best Udder, GCH Vanjust DJ Kotton Kandie 2*M EX93.
I also have a couple exciting AI breedings planned with Ober-Boerd King's Landing and Ober-Boerd Wind Voyager. King's Landing is a son of a doe I have long admired, Ober-Boerd Kiss Me, Kate. Ober-Boerd Wind Voyager is a son of another all-time favorite doe for me, Ober-Boerd T Venti (2018 ADGA Reserve National Champion).
Please send a PM if you are interested in any of these breedings or have any questions. I reserve the right to retain any kids, and all breedings are subject to change based on the circumstances. Vector will be my back-up for all AI breedings. No fee is required for reservations- you will be put on a list and contacted in the order inquiries were received when kids are born. I tend to breed for March-April born kids, but due dates will be announced as they are confirmed.

Had a fantastic weekend at the Wisconsin State Fair open show! Mother nature was not the kindest to us this year between the heat, humidity, and record-breaking flooding. Luckily the goat barn stayed dry and we were able to finish our senior doe show today with the fair shut down and no spectators. Results are as follows:

Junior Does:
Ober-Boerd T Vanna- 1st Senior Yearling, GCH
Ober-the-Top Raven- 1st Intermediate Kid, RGCH
Ober-the-Top Gem- 8th Intermediate Kid

Senior Does:
Brackett's Sunburst Prima Dona- 1st 2-year-old, RGCH
Dreamy Sunset OBD Pearl- 3rd 3-year-old
Ober-the-Top Stormy- 2nd Champion Challenge
Ober-the-Top Lark- 3rd Champion Challenge

This will likely be the last show of the season for me. Looking forward to the fall, and stay tuned for some exciting breeding plans to be posted soon!

This year at Nationals was special, as I had my first individual class winner with Ober-Boerd T Vanna in the junior yearling class πŸ₯‡
I also had the 2nd place in the class as well with Ober-the-Top Siren who has since went to her new home in Ohio to be a foundation doe for a new Oberhasli herd ❀️
I'm looking forward to seeing Vanna freshen this spring. She will be bred to my junior herdsire, Ober-Boerd T Vector. Despite the similarity in their names, they are not very related at all. This should be an exciting match! Thanks to Kirt for letting me incorporate these genetics into my herd.

Brackett's Sunburst Prima Dona 88VEVV (as a first freshener with 89 being the max allowable score!)
