With spooky season upon us, we wanted to share this image from WildCare, a wildlife rehabilitation center in California, to inform you of the possible dangers for wildlife when using fake spiderwebs for outdoor decorating. This photo of a Screech Owl entangled in fake spiderwebs was taken by Marin Humane Society Officer Dave Stapp just before he cut the owl free.

This time of year, wildlife rehabilitators frequently get calls about animals, especially birds, that get entangled in these fibers. These run-ins with the fake webbing can be death traps or cause serious injuries when they frantically try to free themselves. Please consider skipping the fake spiderwebs as part of your Halloween decor to avoid any of these accidents.

We are sorry for the gap in posting but we had some hard decisions to make. Happy Snout Ranch may be moving but you can’t keep a good farm down!! Details to follow. Please no questions. You will be the first to know, our loyal followers!!!
Recently Lucas gave us a scare and Andy, one of our long time volunteers rushed him to the vet in Madison. Lucas stayed a few days to recover but unfortunately lost his sight. Flavianne brought him home and although now blind(possibly temporary)Lucas was nice and healthy and looking good! He was happy to be home with all his buddies. He has adjusted well.

To all our friends and followers! Happy Snout Ranch is in need of any donations for the purchase of fruit or vegetables or gift cards to purchase said items until we find a replacement for the grocery store that used to supply us from Illinois. They have recently shut down. Any leads on new resources would also be appreciated. Thank you loyal family! ❤️🥰 You can donate thru PayPal giving or on our website.

Good morning everyone! Say hello to Winter! She is a new member of our sanctuary . Sweet lovable and still getting used to our surroundings. Apparently she was found on the side of the road in South Carolina with bloody paws and banged up a bit. She was rescued and loved by wonderful people in Indiana who decided she was not in the right environment and got in touch with us!
We are still working with her and will be taking her to our vets for a checkup. We are learning her ins and outs,
finding out which animals she will tolerate etc. and our hopes are she can be our farm dog and keep the foxes away.
So please welcome “Winter”! ❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾

THE FOLLOWING POST MAY BE DISTURBING TO ANIMAL LOVERS: I previously read a post regarding neighbors using poisons in attempts to control "pests." (mice, racoons, opossums etc). Coincidentally, I just received the following from our WI Humane Society...A SAD, HARROWING story of a stray dog poisoned by ingesting rat poison...
"Jobi was happy and friendly when the 1-year-old pup was brought in as a stray, but things took a shocking turn the next day.
Suddenly, Jobi was covered in blood with no obvious cause, and trembling in fear. Our veterinary team loaded him onto a gurney and into our exam room where no obvious wounds or fractures were found. They started him on IV fluids and began testing, soon confirming that Jobi had somehow ingested rat poison prior to his arrival at WHS. We started him on medications to counteract the toxic effects it was having on his body and took him to an animal hospital where he could get the round-the-clock intensive care he would need to pull through. Thankfully, things began to stabilize for Jobi, and the hospital soon released a much happier pup back into our care. Unfortunately, it will still be weeks or potentially even months before he's ready for adoption as the resulting blood clots are resolved. The cost of emergency care is high, but we had to do everything we could to save him.

I am sure you would not want to be the one responsible for the suffering of this living being. Remember, this could also have been a child. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE POISONS WHERE THEY MAY BE INGESTED ACCIDENTALLY!

Hello Happy Snout Ranch followers! I was going to say summer is upon us but here in Wisconsin the weather has been playing games but none the less our big pigs really need sunscreen this time of year. It is very important to protect their skin. We just raised money for our pig stall improvement project. Now we would like to ask all of you if you could donate sunscreen 50 or 70 in spray form.We prefer cruelty free if you are able to get it. We need a lot. Could you help us out? Go to our website to donate or for our address. You can find it on Amazon also. Thank you so much, bless you!

Great news! Just got word that the veterinary team at Purdue University feels that Kenji’s condition may be correctable by surgery. We couldn’t be happier at the thought that this little innocent baby may be saved. We have to get him to Purdue asap.
We will be needing all your well wishes, all your prayers, all your good vibes and much financial support! Please help us keep Kenji alive to live his best life possible here at the ranch. ❤️🙏🏻👍🏻😘🥰 $$$

Update: 4-6-23

We have the final outcome of our sweet little Kenji’s visit to the vet.
According to the report this poor little goat has suffered a painful first two months of life. Upon further examination and after a CT scan, it was confirmed that Kenji had lesions due to a prior traumatic injury causing multiple fractures of the ribs and the last three bones of his sternum are fused together.
Tests also show moderate anemia and intestinal parasites. Dewormer was given.
The CT scan and Echocardiogram were done to assess the structure of Kinji’s chest and heart. He has a murmur and mild left atrial dilation, both of which will not directly impact his quality of life. Surgery not needed.
Much gratefulness and thanks for all your well wishes and support. These exams come at a cost however and therefore need to ask you to help with finances if you can.
Dig deep, we love you and Kenji loves you too! ❤️🥳😘🎉🥰$$$

Update 4/3/23

Baby Kenji is on way to Purdue university 😊 please send him good vibes he is a strong boy and we’re here fighting with him for his life🍀🐃 🐐❤️ We love you baby

Welcome our newest member of Happy Snout Ranch. Kenji(formerly known as little Joe) is a 10lb, 10 week old baby Nubian goat. He was the first born of a set of triplets born on a small dairy farm in Franksville on January 27. He came to us debudded(no horns) able to walk, very sweet but tiny. He is bottle fed every 4 hrs. We were told his prognosis was not good. His growth is stunted due to a deformity of his sternum(chest bone). While this does not cause him pain his heart stays small which could prove fatal as soon as any day or week from now due to heart failure.
We want to fight for him and hope for his life to be as happy as possible for as much time as he is given. We have contacted Purdue University and are waiting for a response. Please stay tuned.
