…and then there’s this story. A good friend of our cat ambassador Robyn Ochs, Activist, Writer & Speaker asked us if we could help her elderly friend adopt a cat. She’s had a cat her whole life, and hers recently passed. She was sad and alone. We didn’t have one in Mississippi right now and I was reluctant to send her to a local shelter, by herself, because of her age. Because age discrimination in adoption is a real thing. I called one of our partner shelters in Massachusetts and we had a contingency plan defined should Cobb, the cat, outlive her. And Saturday Cobb went home. ARF has never age discriminated and we never will. Anybody who wants a four legged companion, has love in their heart, deserves a companion. And Cobb, abandoned on the streets in Florida, transported to MA, has a loving home. In the season of the lighting of the 9 candles of the menorah, Happy Hanukah Cobb and Leslie

Before Christmas, I tend to get sadder knowing of all of the precious babies that are in shelters and rescues, or fending for themselves in the wild, and I remembered Martin. He had been posted for adoption for maybe a year, and not one person came forward. Look at that face. It killed me. And then a family came along, up here in Massachusetts, and their hearts were broken and they heard about us and I called them. And I immediately thought about Martin. They saw his picture and they knew they wanted him. Last Christmas he was adopted. This Christmas he’s got a window seat on his own jet and headed south for the holiday. That’s what this work is really all about. Finding their home. Because it’s out there. We just need to find it.

Monday 44 babies leave Mississippi and head “up north.” We have been doing this now for over 19 years. My life really did go to the dogs. From our Hope Animal Sanctuary staff, and those at ARF, Merry Christmas everyone.

Our last trip of 2024 leaves in two weeks, and it's a big one! 42 babies are home for the holidays! Meet Golden, Goose, and Turtle Dove. They need your help, and I'm asking you to consider us for your end-of-year giving. It doesn't matter how little the amount, and please don't think someone else will do it! We are struggling financially with the lowest numbers we've had since 2014. So throw us (and the babies) a bone! 💚🕎🎄

Hey everyone! We need fundraising help. Over the years I’ve done my best, but it’s not my expertise. I want to get a fundraising letter sent to potential donors to help us create a $25,000 yearly spay/neuter fund, to help our Mississippi teams and people in Mississippi and Louisiana who need financial assistance to get their animals fixed. This money will be a drop in the bucket but we have to start somewhere.

I’ve known we can’t transport our way out of the pet overpopulation problem. The last two years have shined a bright spotlight on that. We have to stop the problem at the source. And good folks who struggle financially should not have to decide between fixing their animals and feeding their kids. Please message me: [email protected]

We learned something very important during Helene and in North Carolina. We learned that nowhere is safe from natural disaster. This is what you need to know for disaster preparedness with your animals.

1. Make an evacuation kit that includes items for your pet. Food, medicines, medical records and something comforting like a toy or blanket.

2. Identify locations that welcome pets. Note: the federal government (FEMA) cannot prevent you from evacuating with your animal and they must provide shelter for your animals if they evacuate you to a federally operated shelter.

3. Always have a visible ID on your pet. If possible, and highly recommended, have a special collar and/or harness that has their name, your name, your contact information and their rabies tag.

4. ALWAYS evacuate with your animal(s).

5. Ensure you have enough crates to comfortably house your animals during an evacuation.

As you are likely now aware, Brother Wolf has been completely devastated by Hurricane Helene. We have lost all physical assets. We lost our shelter, and we will not be able to return to 31 Glendale Avenue. It's now a disaster zone. All of our animals were evacuated prior to the storm hitting and are safe thanks to our beautiful community and partners.

If it is within your means or you have a community you could share our plea with, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue's most urgent need is for monetary donations.
