Of the 2 pups my BE marten dwarf had, one looks like this 😳

It is definitely a marten, but I'm stumped as to why it has significant marbling (it is definitely NOT marble). This coat type has been consistently reproducing in my longevity line, but ONLY in martens so far πŸ€” the darker and lighter markings never fade or change as the rat ages. Recently, white speckles appear throughout the coat as well as it becomes an adult, as is seen in this pups mother, who is also pictured.

I'm not sure what to make of this yet, but I find it intriguing and beautiful, so I want to share with you all 😌

Thanks to Joyceful Rattery, we welcomed these lovely kids into our home today! It has been a few years since we lost our marble, burmese, velveteen, and Harley genes, so it is wonderful having them back. We didn't plan on bringing Harley in, but it came with the male velveteen ("harvel") and it looks pretty neat, so maybe we'll keep it around;) the 2 velveteen babies also happen to be golden Siamese, which we find very pretty!
We are so excited to work with these varieties again!

Also, we have the downunder gene for the first time and cannot wait to incorporate it into our dalmatian line and soon-to-be marble line!

The goals with these genes will be:
-velveteen (and maybe Harley) and downunder in marble
-velveteen in Burmese
-downunder in dalmatian.
Then, to make all of them dwarf as we aim to work solely with dwarf.

Offspring from these rats pictured will not be available to the public for 3 generations.

Good news - we won't be closing after all!

After making the last post and rehoming a few rats and having people ready to reserve the last of each gender, I felt heartbroken and devastated that I was going to lose 10+ years of hard work and passion. I began to second guess my decision. As I held my last few rats in my hands, I once again felt the joy and happiness I had always experienced from these amazing litter creatures. However, I also wanted them to get the attention they loved and craved. Then an idea popped into my headπŸ™‚β€β†•οΈ: I would find a way to keep breeding but also give my rats the best lives possible - I will alter how I breed until I once again have the time and more space for them. When I breed them, after 1 or 2 litters, I will re-home the breeding rats so they can be spoiled the rest of their lives as beloved pets, and then I'll do the same with their offspring, and so on. Preferably, they'll go to past adopters who I know will keep me informed of their health and lifespan. Right now, I'm left with 3 females and 3 males (although I have a few more who have been staying with and being spoiled by a close friend).

We are also getting some old genes back! Marble, Burmese, velveteen, as well as a new gene - downunder! I will share more on this when they arrive in November from Joyceful Rattery

We will also be sharing our longevity line with a couple ratteries to ensure the hard work that went into them lives on, even if one day we do get out of rat breeding.

So, stay tuned all πŸŽ‰πŸ€

Update: males 2+4 sold and females 1+2+5 sold, all others currently unavailable

6 females (4 dwarf) & 5 males (all dwarf) ***last chance for an ECOR rat***
Past adopters get first priority as I know they will get forever and great homes with them

It is with a heavy heart that after over 10 years of breeding, we announce the closure of East Coast Rattery. With our new baby, 5 dogs, and 4 cats, the rats have taken a back seat and it's not fair to them. I want them to live out the rest of their lives as spoiled and beloved pets. These are rats from lines I have been working on for over 10 years. They are extremely well bred, friendly, and healthy rats. We will not be breeding again in the foreseeable future, which breaks my heart, but I know in my soul that it's time to close our doors.

We are looking for fantastic forever homes for the last of our breeder rats - 6 females (4 of which are dwarf) and 5 males, all dwarf. They can go in pairs or trios of the same gender. If someone wants the whole mischief of females, or the whole mischief of males, even better, as most are siblings or mom/dads. All are approx 6 months to 1 year old and all are related to our 4 1/2 year old female who passed just a couple weeks ago. Please message us if you're interested. An approved application will still be required and the cost for them is reflected in the application.
