I’ve had a few requests for an update on Thor aka QTip. He’s doing well! He still finds trouble to get into, the latest obsession is chewing up padded dog beds. I’m just trying to give him some cushion for his old bones but he doesn’t seem to understand that 😂

I’m getting ready to cut grass and realize my good boy Titus had gathered all the dog toys in the yard.

Today, we said goodbye to our beautiful girl, our original Creekside kid, the matriarch of our pack.
We learned today that our warrior princess has been battling leukemia and we refused to let her suffer any longer. The pain of losing her is incredible but her pain is over forever. My heart is just shattered in a million pieces!

Thor has a lot of great days but today, he’s suffering with acid reflux 😢
“This too shall pass”
It certainly doesn’t put a damper on his love of balls though!

Thor is slowly gaining weight and we are very happy with his progress! He wears his neck hug after each meal and at night and this has been super helpful. He’s still eating three meals each day, which we grind to a wet mush to help prevent regurgitation. His voice has still not returned to normal though. He sounds hoarse when he barks and I’m assuming the acid reflux he was suffering through did this. His energy is back and he’s always up for a game if fetch. 🤗

Happy 8th Birthday 🥳 to my ❤️ boy, THOR!! Eight years old...what??!! His birthday 🎂 cake this year will be new raw based special meatballs that I hope he loves 🙏. We got a call from his vet at UGA vet hospital this morning. His results came back from the M-Gravis test and he’s NEGATIVE 👏. They have ruled out any underlying causes of his sudden Mega-E diagnosis, which apparently can just happen out of the blue in their senior years 😢 He is getting more interested in his three meals a day now and even enjoys a fried egg! We are hopeful that his next vet visit shows some weight gain and clear lungs 🙏. Our miracle boy continues to battle through all that life throws at him. We are just baffled at his strength!!

Thor was drugged a bit to get his follow up chest X-rays. The antibiotics are working!! 👏👏 He hasn’t gained or lost weight. We got a script for increasing appetite and a new acid reflux med. we continue his antibiotics for two weeks and work on getting four meals a day in him. He’s not dehydrated but does need to gain weight. His tech said she’s never had a Shepherd let her sedate them and be so relaxed. He just leaned in and hugged her. ❤️😘. His vet said at this point, anything he will eat, let him eat! 👍

Thor update...
We are making progress with his eating! Yesterday we were able to get him to eat a spoon fed can of food for breakfast, 3/4 lb of cooked ground turkey for lunch and another spoon fed can of food for supper. He is slowly gaining strength back and wants so badly to play fetch. His breathing is better but he definitely gets winded with a little exertion. We got him an elevated food/water feeder in hopes of avoiding aspiration and so far, he handles that well. We have noticed that upon waking, he’s coughing out saliva. But so far, he’s not regurgitating any food or water. He’s still on antibiotics (which we spoon feed with food). We have yet to have ANY luck in him taking the syringe meds that helps with ulcers/acid reflux. He’s VERY clingy now as well. I’m sure that was a pretty awful experience to feel abandoned for five days, bless his heart. We are scheduled for comparison X-rays this Thursday so fingers crossed the pneumonia is responding to the antibiotics. We are also hoping he has gained some weight. Slow and steady right now...I’ll take it. ❤️

I just got off the phone with Thor’s vet. Although he’s still a very sick boy, we will bring him home tomorrow. He is taking the oral meds with no problem. His X-rays today show no change. Not better but definitely not worse. The right lung is full of pneumonia and the left has a tiny bit in it. She wants to continue the same meds to give it more time. In a week, we go back to our vet for comparison X-rays and if no improvement, she will prescribe something else. His esophagus hasn’t changed either so she is diagnosing him with Mega-E as well. 😭. She explained that this is something that can be acquired later in life and she feels the dilated esophagus is permanent. 😢He has grown very anxious today and appears to be looking for us every time they take him for walks outside. She put him on anxiety meds today to calm him so as not to set him back. He is eating wet food in meatball form in a sit position. A slow process to be sure it goes down properly. I’m not a fan of canned dog food but we will be sent home with some. I’ll have to make Thor some meatballs that will help him gain weight and not aggravate his esophagus. Guess I’ve got some research to do. He has not gained weight there nor has he lost weight. Once we get him home, we will need to count his “resting” breathing periodically throughout the day to be sure he’s staying on course. He seems to be coughing more today and she thinks things are starting to break up now. She said they all love him there. That he’s just the sweetest boy. He is missing his family and we are most definitely missing him. We are ready to get this home recovery started!

THOR update...
Thank you for your continued prayers and support!Thor is still in the hospital but is improving. They have ruled out Addison disease, Lyme and Cancer. They sent blood to a lab in California to test for Myasthenia Gravis, a condition that can lead to Mega-E. They are concerned with his dilated esophagus. Is it from the labored breathing or is something else causing it...they will figure it out. He was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia, meaning he inhaled something(possibly vomit) and caused a bacterial infection in his right lung. That lung was completely full (life threatening). He’s been on IV therapy since Monday and his breathing has returned to normal. Fever is gone. Drinking water on his own. He’s not eating regular though and is having to be enticed to eat. He wouldn’t eat last night nor breakfast today, but he did eat lunch. He is also being given a paste type medicine to coat his esophagus. They said it’s irritated so could definitely cause him to not want to eat. Tomorrow they will try to wean him off the IV meds to oral meds. If he handles this well, he can come home Friday. They will do another series of chest X-rays to make sure his lung is healing as it should be. He is three hours away and we miss our boy terribly but he’s under the very best care!
If you have not already done so, please consider donating to Thor’s medical bill. It’s astronomical, as you can imagine. Share his link as often as your comfortable with because every dollar counts!
Please continue to bless Thor with prayers and healing vibes because they are working!!

Thor update...
The hospital has called this morning and said Thor is still stable. The first up on the agenda is radiographs to get a better look at his lungs and esophagus. We will get another call at that point with findings. Their initial thoughts are aspiration pneumonia in one lung. Inhaling vomit could be a cause of this but he hasn’t vomited in over two weeks. So many questions but the team at UGA will get to the bottom of this.
We have been given an initial estimate of $4000, as long as he doesn’t have to be isolated. In the event he has diarrhea, he would be isolated and the cost will go up. His stool has been normal the past couple weeks so we are hopeful this will continue. We are a quarter of the way through our fundraising goal, thanks to the generosity of supportive friends. Please consider helping us bring Thor home. No amount is too small and every dollar gets us closer to our goal.
