Hey y’all, for those of you who didn’t know the story of the second-ever black feline Easton resident named after our friend and predecessor, Mitch, here it is in a nutshell: Mitch (the cat, not the vet 😊 ) came to us with a different name, and was dropped off by his *owners* pet sitter with a five day old, necrotizing neck wound which was about to kill him. As we performed additional diagnostics, it was determined that Mitch was severely hyperthyroid, in mid stage kidney disease, experienced nightly focal seizures, and was unable to jump without excruciating pain due to what was likely a birth defect which could have been surgically repaired when he was young, but at 12 years old, it was too late.

His *owners*, who were on vacation and unable to be reached in a timely matter, were upset that Dr. Dan had gone ahead and performed what was life saving surgery. At that point, we advised them that they didn’t need to worry about paying us, but we would be keeping this incredibly sweet boy, and ensure that he be properly cared for and loved for the time he had left.

So our little puma served a brief stint as our *hospital cat* before Dr. Dan quickly agreed that Mitch needed our company at night. So, up we moved the litter box, and after that we started feeding Mitchy upstairs, and of course he joined our pack at night ~ and before we were even aware of exactly what happened, this sleek and shiny feline just basically stole our hearts quickly and with such skill! Ifykyk, and I know boatloads of you do 🥰 !

Mitchell needed lots of medications, which he so easily took. During his multiple blood rechecks, he was sure to let us know that he’d be opening up the proverbial can of whoop a** if we didn’t move quickly 😆. In the beginning, Mitchy divided his time pretty equally between our desks; this guy made SERIOUS effort to distribute fairly the attention we were constantly seeking from him. Fam: we fell HARD for this guy.

Mitch was so affectionate; he’d stretch out his long front leg whenever one of us passed him just to wrap his little paw gently around our fingers-just like a baby! He lavished us with kisses and comforted us with his incessant purring (truly a soothing sound). We even enjoyed daily outings in the field with our courageous puma, constantly amazed by his curiosity, commitment to living his life to the fullest, and ability to just fill our hearts with so much darn joy!

While we knew Mitch was on borrowed time, we started to naively think he’d be in our lives for at least another year-if not more! But, sadly, his decline recently accelerated, and we knew we didn’t want our boy to suffer any more than he had in the 12 plus years before we had known him. So, with grief stricken hearts, we said goodbye to this most beloved friend of ours on Friday night.

We’re still upset that he didn’t come to us sooner, but then we’re reminded of so many of our wonderful Easton vet peeps who adopt older friends, perhaps ones with pre existing medical conditions, or who come with all sorts of trauma. We are so very fortunate, truly, to be surrounded by such incredible people whose hearts are soft and kind towards animals. Y’all are the ones who’ve reminded us that love isn’t finite, and whether we have the privilege of sharing our lives with dogs and cats for a month or 18 years~the love is just as powerful. And also, these friends of ours~ even when they’re with us for too short of a time~leave our hearts bigger: always.

So, just again want to remind our fam of how very much we appreciate you. Please hug all those floofballs extra tight, and know that if you’ve experienced a recent devastating loss of your own, we’re keeping you in our hearts 💕

Good morning, Easton Vet fam! I wanted to take this opportunity to a) post some photos of a few of our extremely good looking friends and b) let y’all know about an upcoming office closure. Our niece, Olivia Babcock, is headed once again to the Final Four in women’s volleyball. As y’all know, we don’t have kids ourselves but have been ridiculously blessed with awesome nieces and nephews, and we share in their struggles, achievements, and milestones as if they were our own.

We will be CLOSING THE OFFICE ON Wednesday, December 18th at 3pm so that Dr. Dan, Eleanor, and I can get out to Louisville. We will be back in the office at 9am on Thursday, December 26th.

***Izzy, our Jack of all trades (and actually master of them all as well wink 😉) will be in the office on MONDAY, DEC 23rd from 9:30 a- 1:30 p for medication refills only. ***

If, during our and absence, any of your friends experience a life threatening emergency, please contact: MedVet in Norwalk 203.838.6626; Norwalk VCA 203.854.9960; Shoreline in Shelton 203.929.8600, or your closest 24 hour emergency center. We want to wish our Easton Veterinary family a holiday season full of joy, gratitude, peace~and health for humans and pet friends alike ❤️

Happy Halloween from the Easton Vet *friends behind the scenes* 🎃 👻 We appreciate y’all so much.

(Cliff’s hands were too full with all the puppy wrangling to worry about costumes, and Rebecca’s back at U Penn completing her clinical rotations and basically doesn’t have time for ANYTHING, so some team members are missing 🖤 🧡)

In return, we respectfully request ALL the photos of your friends in costume (and y’all don’t tend to disappoint!)~share ‘em here!

Yo fam! We feel incredibly lucky here at Easton Vet to be surrounded by the best team: Hannah, Cliff, always-behind-the-scenes Ravi, and, when we can pull her away from vet school, Rebecca.

Today though, we’re celebrating Hannah’s birthday 🎂. We’re wishing her an awesome year, filled with animals, adventures, and wonderful surprises.

If you happen to drive by and see the sign, feel free to give Mello a quick birthday honk 😊

Happiest of birthdays, Mello!

It’s with broken hearts that we share with our Easton Vet family that we lost one of our own today.

Maila, who defied her prognosis by being her silly, adventurous, mischief~making self for months beyond what we were expecting, rapidly declined this weekend and, unwilling to allow her to suffer, we put her to rest right in the field so many of you know well. She got to enjoy one last hike at Brett Woods, where she did her best to catch some squirrels and met two puppies just beginning their lives. After some post hike chocolates, our girl went out with her tongue in a bowl of tapioca.

Maila was an incredible friend: protective (sometimes a tiny bit too much so 😬), loving, crazy athletic, and absolutely fearless.

She climbed trees and jumped every single fence she found herself on the wrong side of. Just a year or two ago, she broke through our kitchen window to catch a skunk~right as one of our families looked on (it was especially fun to confirm that the red dog outside triumphantly shaking the poor creature around was, in fact, the veterinarian’s dog 🙊 ). I called Maila our fearless warrior, which she was from the very first day I picked her up.

Although the pain of her loss is insurmountable, there’s some measure of comfort in knowing our girl went peacefully and with dignity after over 13 years of living a very big life full of love and adventure.

You won’t have to jump any more fences, Maila: someone’s left all the gates open for you. ❤️

We’ve lost many wonderful friends here at Easton Vet recently, and know many of you, too, are grieving. We would love it if y’all would share a photo (or two) of the beloved companions our Maila will be joining on the other side of the rainbow bridge. And, please give the friends with you now extra smooches tonight ❤️

Well, Polo certainly hasn’t wasted any time settling into the weekend 😂. We hope everyone’s is as relaxing as his!

I wish I didn't need to post this reminder, but please slow down and keep your eyes on the road when driving through our little town. We just had a devastated family bring their not even two year old canine friend in after she had been hit by a car. Although we did everything we could, this beautiful girl passed away while Dr. Dan was performing CPR. Her family is beyond heartbroken, as are we. We don't want this to happen ever again.

Exciting news over here at Easton Vet! Due to his utter lack of productivity, Sir Mitchell Greenjeans has been promoted to COO. Fun fact: He’s the second cat in Easton to be named after our veterinary predecessor, Dr. Mitchell Greenberg. Another fun fact: when Dr. Dan was at vet school in Grenada, he ordered “the best ever” chicken from a man named Mr. Greenjeans. So all sorts of good vibes went into this guy’s name 💚.

We’ve hired a part time catssistant, full time cutie over here! This ridiculously handsome fellow has spent a few days with us recovering from major surgery, and productivity is now at an all time low 😂. He’s inserted himself into ALL the office activities, as well as our hearts ❤️
