̊S̊̊o̊ ̊M̊̊å̊n̊̊ẙ ̊S̊̊ẘ̊e̊̊e̊̊t̊ ̊L̊̊å̊m̊̊b̊̊s̊! 🐑❤️

Fun fact: In my experience, sheep are incredibly cold-weather hearty! ❄️ I rarely have to worry about lambing. This year, I’ve had just a couple of unusual situations—a confused mama who disowned one of her twin lambs and an older ewe with little milk (both babies are now cozy inside 🤭). We have just 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯 from this batch!

𝗚𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀, 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱… they do NOT handle the cold. At. All. 🥶 With the incoming weather, I’m VERY nervous for them. I’ll have 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵—I don’t have many dairy girls left in my herd, so I’m really hoping for some sweet little doelings! 🤞💕

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our sweet little Oreo passed peacefully sometime during the night. From the moment he came into our lives, we fought alongside him, giving him every ounce of love and care we could, but in the end, his little body was simply born with too much stacked against him.

Our hearts ache, but we take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. His time with us was short, but he knew love, warmth, and kindness. We are so grateful for everyone who prayed for him, sent words of encouragement, and supported us in trying to give him a chance.

My wonderful mentor, Jeanie Gregory, who has also gone on to heaven, once told me: With livestock, you will have deadstock —it is the sad, hard truth of farming. But it has stuck with me and has helped give me comfort to know that sometimes, no matter how hard we fight, our efforts can’t save all of them. 💔

Rest easy, sweet Oreo. You were loved.

This might be a long one, but bear with me as I step outside of my comfort zone and share a few things with you all. Orrick Acres began in 2017 from my deep love and passion for horses—and animals in general. That passion led me to want to share these animals with our surrounding community. I know firsthand how tough finances can be, especially with multiple kids. That's why we've always kept our services as affordable as possible—so the community can benefit, while still allowing us to care for everyone and keep the farm running.

The past six months have been especially tough—losing Savannah and Tank, and seeing Design's cancer return, (which it has again this week 💔). It’s been exhausting in so many ways. Winter is always hard for me, as I need sun and heat to really come alive. Burnout is real and I have been battling it hard. As we move into a new year, know that my love for animals and my desire to share them with all of you is as strong as ever. However, some things are on the path for change (more on that another time).

One thing that has helped me through this is helping those who can't help themselves. In October, we rescued Beauty and Belle in memory of the animals we lost. This week, we had the opportunity to save another senior mare who was severely emaciated. People both locally and from all over the United States came together to help get her SAFE. I'm humbled at the outpouring we were shown. Transporting her to safety has come with some hefty fees, and the rescue is currently in need of help with transportation costs. If you haven’t already, please follow our Rescue Page, Orrick Acres Rescue. Moving forward, I’m going to make a real effort to keep the rescue updates separate from the farm posts (that’s the goal, at least). But I felt the need to let you all know my passion is still there just slightly shifting.

For those who know me, you know my heart is to bless those around me. We will be hosting a public board meeting for the rescue in February, and we’d love for you to join us if you're interested in learning more about how things are running. I want to be clear: we will never misuse rescue funds for the benefit of ourselves or Orrick Acres LLC. If anything, Orrick Acres has been covering many of the expenses for the rescue.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻!

• 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯: This morning, we welcomed a single ram lamb. Unlike Oreo (the sheep), his mother has NOT been very attentive. We’re keeping a close eye to ensure he gets the care he needs. 🐑
• 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗳: We’ve taken in a 3-week-old calf with bowed legs who has yet to stand or walk unassisted. His previous caretaker, who named him Oreo (not to be confused with our sheep), did a phenomenal job but didn’t have the heart to continue if the hard decision would need to be made if he doesn’t improve. So we’re picking up where she left off in hopes to give him another week or two to hopefully get him up and going. His prognosis is pretty uncertain, and he needs all the prayers you can muster! 🙏
• 𝗡𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: One of our Nubian goats had a single buckling about an hour ago. She’s been an over-the-top, eccentric mom—think karate-chopping to encourage her newborn to stand! Good intentions, just a bit extreme. Lol.
• 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: And lastly, sheepishly may I add, I lost some horse supplements out of the back of my truck tonight. A very costly mistake. UPDATE: through shares on my personal page, the supplements have been found. God is sooo good! ❤️🙌

Farm life is full of ups and downs, but we keep moving forward!

The 2025 baby season has officially begun! Our first lambs of the year have arrived, weighing in at 8.6 lbs and 9.2 lbs. 🐑 Oreo, our superstar momma, is once again proving to be a phenomenal momma. Last year she also successfully delivered triplets in the freezing temperatures!

We’re excited for a steady stream of lambs and kids all the way into spring. Next up is Rosie 🐐—hopefully, she’ll release her “hostages” soon because she looks ready to pop!
