Stay cool everyone! Keep an eye on the outside time your fur baby has. Heat strokes are a very real and preventable issue! If you’re an avid dog walker, check how hot the pavement or sidewalk with the back of your hand before you let their paws on it. try walking closer to sunrise and sunset (Bears permitting 🐻). As someone once said before, “don’t walk farther than the distance you’re able to carry your dog back.”

Stay safe!

Hey all!
Fourth of July is around the corner! In the area, it goes from July 1st to July 4th ( Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Eastpoint, and St George Island)

If your furbaby has noise phobia, now is the time we highly recommend either refilling your medications, or make an appointment to see what would be best prescribed.

Fourth of July and New Years more dogs go missing than other time of the year due to fear of the noise, and they bolt out doors, or get through fences ect.

They don’t understand what’s going on, they just think the world is exploding!

Call us today if you have any questions, need refills, or need an appointment! Any refills, we have to have seen that pet within the past year.

Introducing our 2024 Apalachicola Mardi Gras Queen,
Her Royal Majesty, Queen June Bug!

Every year the King and Queen of our Mardi Gras event are adoptable dogs from the Franklin County Humane Society and every year they find the most wonderful homes. We know that Queen June Bug will have a hard time choosing her forever family from lots of applicants who will be anxious to love and spoil her.
Queen June Bug is a 3 year old Bassett hound who was surrendered reluctantly by her former owner. She has lived in a home with other dogs. She is very social, gentle, and like all Bassetts, she is goofy and affectionate.
If you’re interested in adding some furry royalty to your family, you can meet Queen June Bug for an interview at the Franklin County Humane Society.
(850) 670-8417
Queen June Bug and her consort will be on their special float in the Apalachicola Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, February 24.

ALL HAIL, King Noa!
King Noa has been chosen by the Franklin County Humane Society to reign as King of the 2024 Apalachicola Mardi Gras Parade.
King Noa is regally handsome and he has impressed the shelter staff by being very relaxed and gentle. He is just 3 years old with impressive Border Collie and Blue Heeler ancestry that explains his intelligence and his social nature. He came to the shelter with a leg injury that has completely healed and hasn’t slowed him down a bit.
Like all former Apalachicola Mardi Gras royalty, King Noa is looking for a special family to adopt him. Applicants should be willing to love and spoil him and have plenty of treats to share.

Both King Noa and his consort, Queen June Bug, will occupy their own float in the Mardi Gras parade and will be available to meet the public at the Humane Society’s tent during the event. You may also call for an adoption interview at (850)670-8417.

The Mardi Gras Festival takes place on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 11 am until 4 pm at Riverfront Park on Water Street in Apalachicola. The parade of costumed dogs and their people begins at 1:00. Proceeds will benefit the Franklin County Humane Society and the Florida Wild Mammal Association.
