Farm Stand Customers-

I happened to be out at the Farm Stand today and someone came by and pulled into the driveway. Their question was:

“I wanted some eggs, but only have $5. Will you have eggs tomorrow?”

First answer is yes… we should have eggs every day - provided the work force is participating.

Second: Our Eggcell Accounting System works like this:

-If you need eggs/produce, but don’t have any money, please take what you need. No one in our community should go without. (The Community Plan)

-If you only have $5, please take what you need. We hope you come back and you can settle up any difference whenever. (The OI IOU plan)

-If you only have a $10 and are willing, leave the $10 and then YOU get to remember that you have a credit. ( The OI WeOU plan)

You never have to leave us a note regarding which plan you’re following, although we we do love reading them!

Hey Farmstand Customers:

After what has been a cold, dark winter, the employees of Horse Tale Farm are firing back up - and apparently making up for lost time.

Fresh eggs at the Farmstand just about every day!

And to fully confirm that spring is on the way, there’s a rumor that the salad greens are already sprouting in the greenhouse!

It’s time to bring on Spring!

Pretty exciting farm news!

We welcomed 4 new pigs yesterday. They had a long day coming over from the mainland in frigid cold, but were happily nestled in for the night with food, water and a dedicated heat lamp.

Big thank you to Bittersweet Family Farm for continuing to raise and breed great pigs and allowing us to be part of the local food cycle in our community.

In other news, if you need eggs, please message Amber… too cold to put them out at the farm stand currently.

Farm Friends!

It’s been a slow start for us this year, but we are finally getting into harvest mode!

Just in time for a Summer Solstice Salad!

Come by the stand today for fresh salad greens and as always… Eggs!

Also- we trimmed back our arugula plants, so grab as much as you want from the bottom shelf. Not the leafiest stuff around, but Amber says it would make great arugula-pesto.

When you pull into the stand, feel free to come into the driveway to turn around (it’s circular). We tried to keep a clear view open for everyone with our new fence, but the neighbor had a different idea, so the view up the hill can be tricky now.

We are back into egg-sickle weather. Because of this, we won’t have eggs at the Farmstand until the weather lets us.

We are lucky enough to call Lum Farm LLC our neighbors. This write-up is a great review of what they do, but there is soooo much more that they offer our community.

They consistently remain available to help with all the lovely random questions, concerns and emergencies that seem to crop up when raising animals. Without them having a strong, stable foothold here on the island, any number of us would be lost in our needs for hay, animal assurance and general “farm therapy”.

Here’s to good fortunes for great neighbors in 2023!
