6 awesome years with my soul-dog! 6 years ago, I brought home my chunky, spunky and sassy Alma LeFay Peregrine. And in 6 years we’d try dog shows, go camping and kayaking, hike 10 miles on Lake Superior, spend countless hours adventuring with Framily, snuggle for days on end, raise 3 beautiful Gatorhawk puppies, make a few emergency vet visits to Dr. Auntie Amanda, and add another humom (after a thoughtful Gator-approval process) and kiddo to the family. And I can’t wait to see all the fun and Gator-nanigans we get into for years to come! I absolutely love my Gator Girl! 🐊❤️

Can’t believe I missed posting on National Corgi Day! It’s been a busy month here, with scheduling Branwyn to get neutered (he was Cryptorchid) and Alma going into heat a month before his surgery. 😬 That meant keeping the best friends Mom and Son pair separated and closely supervised for 3 weeks. And another couple weeks separated following Branwyn’s neuter - Bean is now beanless. They’re gonna be thrilled to be reunited! And this Mama is too. 🐊❤️🦕

How has it already been a year?! Alma was a wonderful Mama! I couldn’t have been more proud of her and I couldn’t be more proud of the Gatorhawks. Happy Birthday to our Birds Litter - Branwyn, Copper (Crow), and Luna (Tawny)! We love you babies!
And happy rainbow bridge birthday Robin, Flicker, and Jay! Hope you’re keeping Grandpa, China, and Uncle Scout on their toes!

Two weeks ago, we said goodbye to Uncle Scout. Our Grumpy Boy. I was most worried about his sisters, particularly how Trixie would do following the loss. They had been together and bonded for 11 years. I’m grateful she has seemed to transition alright. One of the many blessings that is Trixie, the best big sister and auntie ever, is that she’s well bonded with Alma and Bran too, so they’ve kept her spirits high. She’s teaching Bran how to play her breakfasts game, eating and staying very playful. I think everyone knew it was time. Dogs are amazing, and resilient and wonderful. We truly do not deserve them sometimes. Scouty is well missed and loved terribly. Happily reunited with Grandpa and China across the rainbow bridge.

A Reputable Breeder’s Poem
You’ll love your little puppy, she’ll make your house a home.
She’ll be your very best friend, you’ll never feel alone.
She’ll make you smile, she’ll make you laugh,
She’ll fill your heart with love…….
Did she come from a breeder or did she fall from heaven above?
If you’ve never been a breeder or seen life through their eyes
as you hold your little puppy, please don’t criticize.
You don’t know of all the anguish and the times that bring such pain.
When we lose the battle with a little one and the tears flow like rain.
Sometimes we sit the whole night through waiting for babies to be born.
Oh the stress and trepidation when they’re still not here by dawn.
Or the panic of holding a tiny baby in our hands who weighs but 60 grams
Do I do this instead of that or that instead of this?
Alone we fight and hope we won’t give him his last little kiss.
We pray he’ll live to bring some joy and make a house a home
We know it’s up to us and we fight this fight alone.
Formula, bottles, heating pads, we have to get it right
Two hour feedings for this tiny guy throughout the day and night.
In our hearts we know we are probably going to lose this epic fight
but we keep trying to save him because God willing we just might.
Day one he’s in there fighting; we say a silent prayer
Day two & three he’s doing well, with lots of love and care
Day four & five…..he’s still alive, our hopes soar to Heaven
Day six he slips away again, dies in our hands day seven.
We take this little angel and bury him alone:
With aching heart and burning tears and an exhausted groan
We ask ourselves “Why do this? Why suffer all this grief & pain?
To help them live to grow up strong and see the joy your puppy brings – this self explains.
So when you think of breeders and label them with “GREED”,
If you have a happy & healthy puppy it’s cause they filled his every need.
When you buy a puppy, and with your precious dollars part,
You only pay with money … we pay with a piece of our heart.

Took the boy on his first big adventure, and he had a great time! He made a new friend (my best friend’s husky mix) and played almost nonstop whenever they were off leash. We took a hike and found some water for him to try out. Branwyn LOVES water… drinking it, playing in the water dish, getting it everywhere. He wasn’t too sure about the water where he couldn’t touch, but loved this little rocky stream. I might just have a water baby finally! 🥰❤️🦕

Sometimes dog training is tough. Sometimes you win small battles and have big losses. Sometimes you lose small battles and have big wins. Sometimes you wonder if you’re failing or really doing enough. And yet, sometimes your goofy, sweet, short attention span boy surprises you with a really great day. A day that reminds you that you’re doing your best and he’s picking things up. Today was a big win, great reminder day. We didn’t have any potty accidents in the house or crate, including at Grandma’s, or at Mama’s old work when we visited. We showed off how good we are with following directions and staying with Mama or a friend while walking off-leash. And to top it all off, we went in the crate without instruction, when Mama simply mentioned it was time for bed and took off the collar. Mama needed the win. Just so proud of that good boy!
