It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the ECPD K9 officer Duke. Duke was a hard-charging Belgian Malinois, who was partnered with Jason Ruppert since 2011. Together, they grew the ECPD K9 Officer program into the strong community asset it is today. Duke has set numerous records in arrests, tracking, and drug seizures. He was extremely driven and every call was a source of excitement.
Duke will be remembered as a reliable partner, an effective officer, a loving family member, and a talented working dog. We send our deepest appreciation and sympathy to Officer Ruppert, the ECPD, and everyone whose lives have been touched by Duke.
Out with the old, in with the new: may you be happy the whole year through. Happy New Year!
