It's that time.... time to think about next year's competition goals! LongShot Farm is not just about the shows, but we do try to make showing an option for many levels of riders. We compete at the local, regional, and national level in many disciplines. Riders may work toward show goals with their own mount or one of our school horse lease options. If you have any questions at all, please speak with your instructor at your next lesson!

- Saturday, October 26th -

Youth Lesson Students, we have special Tricks and Treats for you from 1pm to 3pm starting with a costume contest (horse optional), games, and scavenger hunt with prizes for each! Be sure to reserve your favorite school horse!

Adult riders and Red Rock boarders - we'll run your fun and games from 3pm to 5pm with costume contest, both mounted and unmounted fun and games. Again, school horses will be available, be sure to reserve your favorite!
Join us also at 6:30 for the barn pot luck!

We are working on the fall/winter lesson schedule. Currently you can book through October 23 on the sign up tool. Next week we will open up the revised schedule for sign ups.

If the posted lesson slots don't work into your schedule, do not hesitate to reach out for other days and times. At this time we still schedule Thursdays and Fridays privately, and other times during the week may also be available - just ask!

It was a good day

"I took my self out of the game.

I took myself out of the game when I chose to breed my good horse, the only competitive horse I had.

I took myself out of the game when I chose to ride under someone and be behind the scenes to further my skill and education

I took myself out of the game when I sold everything I had except for an un-started 2 year old

I took myself out of the game when I decided to put my family first during a really difficult time

I took myself out of the game when I pursued a career. A career that for a year took up 98% of my time.

I took myself out of the game when I mentally couldn’t handle the dedication and commitment playing the game required.

I took myself out of the game for way longer than I planned to.

And the game goes on, whether you’re playing it or not. There will always be other players ready to take your spot the second you pull back on the reins.

The people that used to cheer for me no longer do, the friends that used to encourage me no longer find me worth their time, the people that used to say they missed seeing me, no longer care to see me show up.

But the thing about the game, is that IT NEVER STOPS. And the beautiful part of it all, is that you can always choose to play again.

You may have chosen to take yourself out of it, but you can always choose to put yourself back in.

Choose to play again. Choose to come back to it, to find your love for it again. It’s okay to take yourself out. It’s okay to water other gardens and play other games, sometimes you need to. Sometimes those things are more important.

But the cool thing about this particular game.. you can always choose to play again.

It may be scary and a little more lonely than what you remember, and there may be no one that cares that you’re there, but YOU care that you’re there. And your HORSE cares that your there. And that’s all that matters.

Choose to play again.
Choose to show up.
Choose to try.
Choose to be brave, and strong.
Choose to be excited to be back at the bottom. No expectations, a clean slate. Choose to love the journey, YOUR journey, because it made you who you are.
Choose to play the game to the best of your ability no matter what happens, no matter what people say, no matter who cares that you’re there, because the comeback is always stronger than the set back."

Join us at Zimmerman Freestyle Martial Arts TOMORROW Saturday, September 28th from 10a to 2p. If you've ever been curious about what ZFMA or LongShot Farm have to offer, today is the day to meet us and get answers to your questions!

Kari will be on hand to explain how LongShot Farm echoes the principles of ZFMA in empowering students to become the best version of themselves through self-control, respect for others, and a positive mindset. At LongShot Farm we provide a supportive environment focusing on personal growth and development. Our riding lesson curriculum emphasizes the importance of partnership, teamwork, and communication, all while learning valuable horsemanship skills.

Kari and Jennifer offer riding lessons for all ages and levels in both English and Western disciplines. We have an exceptional group of school horses available for all abilities. Lessons are scheduled year round thanks to our spacious indoor arena.

We offer many programs including our teen After School Program, Young Riders' Saddle Club, Show Team, Ladies Nights, and so much more.

Things I Think About...

Sometimes When Things Don't Work Out, They Actually Do...

This year has been, uh, unpredictable let's say. Nearly every plan made has been detoured, derailed, or deferred to a later date. We've missed horse shows we haven't missed in years. I've said No to clinic dates and a few lesson nights that I'm usually so eager to say Yes to.

Because there's more important work that HAS to be done. Horses MUST be cared for and the business MUST be tended to. Missing shows and teaching dates this year made me a bit anxious and sad.

BUT....

Because I was home this summer, I got to work along side our amazing teens nearly every day. We mended fence, developed horses, made plans for new horses, and so much more.

Because I was home this summer, the young horses and their teens got to see more of the world and gained some valuable experiences.

Because I was home this summer, I got to catch up with old friends and make many new ones.

Because I was home this summer, next year's show team will be better than ever, we've been working so hard!

Because I was home this summer, I was able to learn even more from my team of equine professionals and our horses will come into next year rested and strong.

Because I was home this summer, I got to spend my anniversary at home with my husband (yes people, he exists)

Mostly, because I was home the summer, I got to say Yes to many things I usually miss out on. It's been a truly amazing season. And I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

So I do hope to be back to the usual show and teaching schedule next year. But if it doesn't work out, well, it's really not so bad being Home.
