At Happy Hounds we believe that most people bring a dog home to have a companion... but, sometimes the day to day issues of housebreaking, chewing, barking, digging, etc. Many times that cute puppy turns into more of a handful than you bargained for and ends up in the backyard or given away. We can teach you how to turn your problem pup into the companion you'd hoped for. With positive training and simple management techniques, you'll be surprised at how quickly your dog learns how to behave.

We had so much fun yesterday performing trick shows at our little town's Spring Fest! I think the trick people liked best was the dogs taking tips 😀. The money raised was donated to our local dog shelter.

I'll be starting a beginner class (Just Say Please 1) on Thursday, April 25, in Eddy, TX (between Waco and Temple). In this class, we work on all the basic manners your dog needs to learn to be easier to live with :). Teaching dogs to come when called, walk nicely on leash, sit instead of jumping on people, leave things alone, wait at doors etc., can make a huge difference in your lives. We also address how to help your dog be more comfortable at the vet, grooming and other basic behavioral help (if you are having any kind of aggression issues, please contact me to discuss prior to signing up). Classes are held indoors in a climate controlled building.

A good reminder as we buy new items to plant. I’ve heard from students over the years of the dangers of some of these plants. Some have lost their dogs because of them. It’s not worth the risk…

Happy New Year! Did you get a new puppy over the holidays? Do you have an older dog that needs a few basic manners or has some behavioral issues? I have a new class starting this month that will help you and your pup start off the year on the right foot. Classes will meet once a week for 5 weeks from 7 - 8 pm on Wednesday nights starting January 24. If a group class doesn't work well for you or your dog, I also offer private lessons (at my place or yours) and have a board and train program! Please message or call me (281-550-7810) for details. If your dog needs to be reassured that everything is ok, please don’t worry that it will increase the fear if you comfort him. It will help your relationship because your dog will know he can turn to you when he’s afraid.

I was so proud of my little guy, Maverick, at the show last weekend! A little background: Mav is 17 months and when he hit adolescece at 6 months he became quite challenging 😀. He was into everything, had high prey drive (wanted to herd the goats, chase cars, bark at anything that moved, etc.), but, we've been working hard. When Sharon (who is the lead in the group for the show) suggested a couple of months ago that Maverick do a routine to Danger Zone I didn't know if it would be possible. I loved the idea since the new Top Gun movie had just come out, but the thought of Mav off leash with hundreds of people and dogs around...well, hmmmm. But, he did it! I kept the routine simple, added a prop that he loved and away we went! He performed four times and stayed with me and paid attention. Yes, training works 😀

When you can't exercise your dog outside, it's great to find new things to teach them inside. This is my 11 month old, Maverick, learning to catch a ball!

This little one loves backing up 😀

Living in the country is a whole new world for me! Never would have thought I'd be working with goats, but here we are 😀. All animals work well with positive reinforcement! Goats come running now when I call them (and love being rewarded with alfalfa pellets!).
