2️⃣ Create a Welcoming Birding Environment: Host bird outings that are inclusive of different mobility needs, sensory sensitivities, and communication preferences. We have a tool to help you get started called 'Steps to Implement Accessible and Inclusive Birding' on our website.

3️⃣ Submit a Site Review to the Birdability Map: Share your experiences at birding locations to help others find accessible spots and encourage improvements.

4️⃣ Support and Volunteer: Get involved with organizations working to make the outdoors inclusive of ALL people, like Birdability, Field Inclusive, CorpsTHAT, Black AF in STEM, and more!

A yearly reminder for fall hummingbird feeding:

1. Keeping feeders out will not encourage them to stay too long before migrating.
2. Stick to the 4:1 water to sugar ratio.
3. Keep your feeders out until you don't see any hummingbirds for 2 weeks or more.
4. Keep your nectar fresh! Even though it's almost October, the weather has been very warm. Replace the nectar every 2-4 days when it's in the 80's, every 5-6 days when it's in the 70's and every week when it's below 70.
5. Keep your feeders clean. Black mold can be fatal to hummingbirds and often can start growing inside the nectar reservoir where you don't see it.

Some of the last hummingbirds can still be passing through MN in late October and can use all the help they can get to make their long journey south.

🍂 Fall migration is underway and billions of birds are migrating through North America, mostly under the cover of darkness. 🌙✨ Unfortunately, they face an increasing threat: unnatural, man-made light that attracts, disorients, and makes birds vulnerable to collisions with buildings. 🏙️💡

Does your bird bath get cloudy and grow green algae in the summer sun? We have the solution to keep your bath clean! These new copper plates dramatically slow down and eliminate the growth of algae. We use them in our baths at the store and have had excellent customer feedback on them. Just set them in a clean bath/fountain and let them be. Nothing to do after that!

Woodpeckers of all kinds love our suet plug logs! They provide a natural surface for them to cling to and feed. We have both white birch and dark wood logs, with and without roofs. Made right here at the store!

Now is the time when you might start seeing fledglings in your yard and at your feeders with their parents! Some people have reported already seeing young orioles in their yards. Chickadees and cardinals will also be caring for their fledglings out of the nest. Bluebirds are somewhat unique in that the first brood of hatched bluebird fledglings will sometimes stick around to help their parents raise their second brood. What great kids!
