It’s 50 degrees and BPB 🐻 cracked open the Rooster hive 🏠 to give the 🐝 🐝 more back up food. A bunch of them decided it was a good time to come out and 💩.

BPB 🐻 did some checking on the girls today. The farm hives 🐝 🐝 require a stethoscope 🩺 but the Rooster Hive 🐓 can be heard by putting your ear 👂🏼 up against their vent since it is an Apimaye hive and the sound seems to be amplified. There is nothing better than to hear them flapping and buzzing away when it’s super cold (9 deg F 🥶) outside. 🐝 ❤️

We are just buzzing because we did it again! Our super dark farm honey 🍯 got second place 🥈 in the “People’s Choice Honey Tasting” at the Wasatch Beekeepers Association Annual Banquet. The Big Pink Bear 🐻 can’t wait to tell the girls 🐝 🐝 and order them some cool stuff.

Hello Local Friends! 3 Queens Apiary will be in front of Burton Dental in Eden this Friday, October 11 from 1pm - 6pm selling truly local organic honey, lollipops, and beeswax candles. Please come and see us! All proceeds go straight back to the bees that live amongst us and pollinate here in the OV. 🐝❤️

The Big Pink Bear 🐻 is just bursting with pride to find out that our “home” and “farm” honeys 🍯 each got a second place 🥈 at the Utah State Fair where they had more honey 🍯 entries this year than ever before. We always knew our girls 🐝 🐝 are special but now we are “award winning!”🏆!
That $10 check 💰 is pretty sweet too.

The Big Pink Bear 🐻 got Queen Rooster 🐓 and crew 🐝 🐝 a new spacious home 🏠! The girls 🐝 🐝 weren’t thrilled about the move and many ended up on the ground. During the chaos, BPB 🐻 wasn’t sure where Queen Roo 👑 was - inside (yay) or outside (boo) - until she saw the march up the leg of the hive stand. One hour later everyone was safely inside. This is also our philosophy. Somehow people think it’s cool to see a short take of a beekeeper without a suit. We believe this is misleading and could cause harm to new beekeepers who might give it a try. The Big Pink Bear is always suited up.

Many new beekeepers wonder if it's really necessary to wear a bee suit. They see other beekeepers online wearing minimal to no protective clothing and they aspire to be like them. As romantic as it looks, there is a reason bee suits exist. Read on to explore this topic with me.

Is It Safe to Work Bees Without A Bee Suit?
A bee suit is like a seat belt. It's there to protect you from harm if the worst happens. There are entire generations of people who never wore their seatbelts and survived just like there are certainly beekeepers who have gone for decades without wearing a bee suit. Yet, those people were probably lucky. They were never in a situation where they actually needed their seatbelt/bee suit.

With a seat belt, your life is protected during a crash. Every time you get into your car, you buckle up because the scary reality is that accidents happen and you cannot control the other drivers on the road. The same goes for beekeeping. Bees can are capable of serious harm and sometimes they are beyond our control. Accidents happen. Suiting up is like buckling up.
