Happy New Year!

Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding as my family been navigating sicknesses almost 4 weeks now, the last illness being Influenza A that totally wiped us out… and still recovering from.

As many of you it’s just myself running Guynup’s K9 training lessons, group classes, social media, emails, text, etc. because of that it sometimes takes me a little to reply, I’m not ignoring anyone it just sometimes takes more time, especially when we are sick…

With this being side we are in the PEAK of cold, flu and Covid season… I cannot risk getting sick again and closing our doors again for a long period of time. So if you or anyone in your home are sick PLEASE reschedule your training… if you come to anything sick I will cancel our lesson and there is no refund (this is also listed in your training contract you sign at the beginning of services).

Thank you all for your continued support and I’m so excited for what 2025 has in store for GK9S 🐾

This is a class geared for dogs 9 weeks to 6 months old (older depending on breed and skills welcome). Dog must be have a negative F***l (within 30 days of start date) and age appropriate vaccines. Please RSVP if you would like to attend class with your Puppy! At the end of class if your dog is AKC Registered they will receive their AKC STAR Puppy Certificate as well.

Did you know Service Dogs come in all sizes and breeds?!

Below are two vests, one for a Large Doberman and the other for a very small but mighty Boston Terrier who both have gone through our intensive Service Dog Program.

The size and the breed an owner might choose for their Service Dog often depends on the tasks they are needing the dog to perform to mitigate their disability. Every handler has their own invisible or visible unique to them disabilities and their dogs is specifically trained to assist their owners when needed.

Some examples of breed sizes that may be pair with a certain disability:
Medical Alerts (seizure, POTS, Migraine, etc.)
- small, medium, large & XL breeds

Mobility (bracing/counterbalance/forward momentum)
- Large & XL breeds required

Psychiatric (PTSD, Autism, bipolar, etc.)
- small, medium, large and XL breeds

Most breeds can be trained to provide tasks for all above disabilities, large & XL breeds are needed for mobility and size depends on the handlers height and weight as well.

Often times the general public will see a Service Dog walking calming along side their owner, laying under a table at a cafe, or even performing a task to assist their handler. If these dogs are out they are hard at work, even if it looks like they are doing nothing.

No matter the size and breed of a dog, these dogs have been trained to perform critical tasks and it’s important to give these teams space and not bombard them with loads of questions, touching their dogs, or making comments. I know, I know, these dogs are so cute and hard to resist, but for their handler it’s important we “Ignore Me” and keep going about your outing. 💕

If the time and place is appropriate, respectful questions are often welcome but please before approaching these handlers evaluate the situation. More times then not, you will not be their first person they have encountered that day and they may not be up for a conversation. So, please give these handlers space when you see them and their adorable Service Dogs out in public 💕🐾

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This weekend we traveled north for a dog show with two of our service dog teams and a few friends and clients and I am so proud of everyone!

It was so much fun watching everyone have fun with their dogs, gain experience and knowledge along side their furry companion.

Young Service Dogs in Training Denver and Loki got to experience being handled by other jr handlers and really did so well being handed by someone other then their person!

It was also a blast seeing many receive new legs and titles in Rally! Congratulation to your accomplishments this weekend 💕
